I'm sorry but I think the Troggs original version of Love Is All Around is far better than that of Wet Wet Wet but I'm pleased for Reg Presley the writer.

Hy !!!!

when from the rest of the world we see your chart top we get very sad

Always uk offered indie, pop and dance to the planet being your origins but now we feel that USA puts a lot of money so that only the rap that is all the same appears

Only Meduza and new Project Europe in the top 40 , some Sigrid and a lot of rap

something strange happens, someone could explain to us from uk what is happening or why I change so much youth

R

RIME

1

A lot of what you're lumping into "rap" is specifically "grime", which is a UK-specific subgenre of rap fused with electro-dance that the US has no connection to.

Artists that should be on the chart next week:
Gabriela Richardson - Crime
Sarai - Summertime (This is such a summer banger)
Avril Lavigne - Souvenir
Raja Kumari - Born Hustla
Itzy - Dalla Dalla
Ima Sobe - Everything to nothing

These artists im hoping for them to be on the chart in a few weeks since they sound quite good for me!

TBH, I don't see these songs getting anywhere near the top 40

I think they sound quite good in my prediction

Hopefully we'll have something with a good beat to go straight to the top especially with summer just around the corner. I don't want Lewis Capaldi to hang about for months to come.

1

...if not we'll have to make do with "old town road" 😂😂. That's the number one song in Ireland

avatar

While I really like 'Old Town Road', especially the remix, I'll admit that it would be one of the weirdest #1s we've had in a while.
I think it could do it next week looking at the streaming numbers.

avatar

David N'jama

Yeah, the song's really catchy, I really won't mind it being number 1 and yep, it'll be one of the weirdest.

My thoughts & observations on the UK charts as always…

- ‘Someone You Loved’ by Lewis Capaldi is #1 on the singles chart for a seventh consecutive week! Over the past seven days, it accumulated 69,000 combined sales, including receiving 8.16 million streams.

- It now becomes the third longest #1 ever by a Scottish act, after ‘Love Is All Around’ by Wet Wet Wet (15 weeks) & ‘One Kiss’ by Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa (8 weeks).

- A random fact I found is that every #1 since the end of last October has been artists whose name starts with an A or an L!

- ‘Just You & I’ by Tom Walker is the new #1 on Britain’s airplay chart.

- ‘Someone You Loved’ stays at #1 on the national YouTube chart for a third consecutive week, as it increases by 1.2% in weekly views to 2.4 million. The top debut on the chart is ‘Bad Guy’ by Billie Eilish at #2 (2.08 million views).

- JAX JONES & MARTIN SOLVEIG FT MADISON BEER – ALL DAY & NIGHT (#25)
This is one of those songs where I heard about the hype behind this before I even checked out the song & when I heard it, it became very clear as to why! Jax Jones has honestly never won me over that much with his predictable intro, but the fact that it doesn’t evolve here might actually be a blessing in disguise, since it sets the tempo to the song rather well. Although, just when you think you know what direction the song is going in, Martin Solveig steps up to bring a pulsating drop over a thunderous hook from Madison Beer, who I think might be doing an even better job! I love how much her vocals remind me of Hailee Steinfeld’s (who actually helped write this) where she seems to have reached the point of a relationship where she’s clearly had enough of her man taking her love for granted. Again, it was able to have such a positive impact on me after the first week, then that’s only a hopeful sign of what’s to come. For me, solid 8/10!

- KHALID – MY BAD (#32)
So while Khalid has been very inconsistent with his quality of R&B overall, at least in my opinion, he’s been growing on me a fair bit recently! With this, yeah, it’s definitely one of my favourites from ‘Free Spirit’ & maybe among the best that Khalid has hit the Top 40 with on his own. The track immediately kicks off with his falsetto & while the song might start rather abruptly, the beautiful vocals & the smooth guitar backdrop make the song as a whole have some pop appeal while also having a contemporary urban feel. Despite the vibrant feel, the lyrics aren’t actually that jolly, as Khalid soon goes into detail on the relationship issues he’s experiencing. So yeah, nice stuff & I hope Khalid puts out more songs like this. Strong 7/10!

- BLACKPINK – KILL THIS LOVE (#33)
If you’re a K-Pop fan, then today must’ve been an amazing day for you! BTS just released a new album & BLACKPINK earn their first ever solo Top 40 hit today with this. Here’s the thing though, despite all the records they broke this week (particularly on YouTube), it’s not their best work in my opinion. I mean, it’s not bad & I’ll always be a fan of the charisma or ferociousness that the girls bring, as well as their harmonies, but the issues come up more in the production. They clearly used the same formula as they did with ‘Ddu-Du Ddu-Du’ with that heavy drop, the synthesisers & the ad-libs, none of which interested me all that much compared to the group’s older singles, although I will admit that the blaring horns was a good addition. Again, I know my expectations are high looking back at their songs that weren’t hits here, but this is just okay & I honestly don’t see this lasting that long in the UK mainstream. For now, I’d give this a light 6/10.

- ALEC BENJAMIN FT ALESSIA CARA – LET ME DOWN SLOWLY (#36)
This has been a real slow burner! I’ve been predicting to see this hit the Top 40 for a fair few weeks now, but now it’s finally here & it’s decent I guess! I feel that Alec Benjamin’s timid & gentle vocals are certainly a promising fit alongside Alessia Cara’s, especially when the acoustic guitar is layered at just the right place in the mix. I also like the groove & backing vocals too, but it’s just a shame that Alec & Alessia can’t really land those harmonies nor get the chemistry that this song needs. It’s pleasant, but it never really hit that point for me, especially when the content about ending a relationship doesn’t really have a lot of detail to it. Overall though, I definitely see the pop radio potential, so I’m giving this a strong 6/10!

- JONAS BROTHERS – COOL (#39)
I don’t think anyone expected ‘Sucker’ to get the global success nor the critical acclaim that it had, so it appears that The Jonas Brothers tried to go for that style this time around too, with mixed to positive results I’d say! Nick is trying to be a convincing frontman & his vocals are certainly infectious, but he just lacks the swagger to properly elevate that first verse, although I will say that Joe does try a little harder in his verse. No solo parts from Kevin here, instead we get a hook that shows the group being able to land a solid falsetto, but just not being as fun as on ‘Sucker’. Overall, I was hoping we’d get a little more out of this, but it’s still fine enough as it is. Solid 6/10!

- On the albums chart, ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’ by Billie Eilish spends a second consecutive week at #1. Last week, it broke the record for the biggest one-week streams for a debut album in UK chart history.

- The rest of the Top 5 is: ‘Free Spirit’ by Khalid (debuts at #2), ‘The Greatest Showman [Soundtrack]’ (2-3), ‘What A Time To Be Alive’ by Tom Walker (3-4) & ‘Staying At Tamara’s’ by George Ezra (4-5).

- Looking ahead to next week, these songs could enter the Top 40 for the first time: ‘SOS’ by Avicii ft Aloe Blacc, ‘Boy With Luv’ by BTS ft Halsey, ‘Here We Go Again’ by Sigma ft Louisa, ‘Sixteen’ by Ellie Goulding & maybe even more.

- Thanks for reading everyone! I hope you all have a good weekend. :)

Oh yeah, thanks for picking up for that! I usually try to predict the songs that'll enter the Top 40 next week, but 'All Day & Night' already made it this week anyway as you said & I simply forgot to change it back, haha.

Hey Piran! I love seeing 'Someone You Loved' stay at #1 for a 7th week, and it managing to get its highest sales figure ever of 69k is insane! How many tracks can say that they're still climbing and reaching new peaks in streams and sales on their 7th week at #1? However, with 'Old Town Road' just a step behind with 63k sales, it's almost inevitable that it will shoot to #1 next week, especially with it being ~261k streams ahead of 'Someone You Loved' on Spotify at the moment.
It's pretty cool that all #1s since the end of October have been from an artist beginning in either L or A. Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Ladbaby, Ava Max, Ariana Grande (x2), Lewis Capaldi, and soon to be Lil Nas X. Since it looks like 'Old Town Road' and 'Someone You Loved' won't be leaving the Top 2 in the next few weeks, we'll almost definitely get a full 6 months of A and L !
As well as the huge climb for 'Old Town Road', I do really like the climbs for 'Piece of Your Heart' and 'Talk' inside the Top 10, and 'Here We Me', 'So Am I' and 'Your Mrs' outside of it.
As for the debuts, 'All Day and Night' would be the best for me, with a strong 7/10, while 'My Bad' would be a solid 7/10. 'Kill This Love' would maybe get a weak 6/10, 'Let Me Down Slowly' a strong 6/10 and 'Cool' a solid 6/10. Again, nothing incredible for me this week, but some good tracks nonetheless, and no terrible songs either.
Outside of 'Old Town Road' going to #1, next week I think that 'SOS' will be the biggest debut, and BTS will probably get a few debuts in the Top 100, with 'Boy With Luv' probably going Top 40. 'Piece of Your Heart' and 'Here With Me' will probably see more climbs as well, and 'Keisha & Becky' has a good chance of reaching a new peak with the remix doing well on Apple Music, currently at #18.

Nice review by the way Piran.

But most importantly did you hear that Taylor will probably be coming with new music on April 26th?

avatar

Piran

1

Thanks Jstar! Good to see you here on this thread.
I did see it all over her social media... so excited right now! :D
I kind of expected she was going to do something on April 26 for a while though, given that I saw this tweet back at the end of February: https://twitter.com/annaandmitch/status/1099761837695029248

Hey Gameskiller! Yeah, I'm amazed that 'Someone You Loved' is still gaining on its seventh week at #1. I'm not really sure what other songs have done that either, maybe hits like 'One Dance' or 'Despacito'? Anyway, I feel like if it wasn't for 'Old Town Road', 'Someone You Loved' could really have a chance at being 10 weeks at #1 & still not being affected by the ACR rule, which would be incredible! It'll be cool having a partially country song go to the top of the UK charts next week anyway. :D
I agree with most of your predictions for next week & your ratings for this weeks debuts. The only difference being that I like 'All Day & Night' a little more than you do.

J

Jstar

1

Yeah I remember those tweets now that you mention them, this would be the earliest she has ever released a lead single which would be a nice change. She usually releases a lead single around August.

Also all her albums have been released in the Fall. I am guessing her new album would be released in the Summer which would be cool.

I wonder what sound she will be going for this time, but it will nice to have a artist of her caliber back on the charts. I still think she has a good shot to debut at 1 still. Old Town Road should definitely not be above 900pts 3 weeks from now, well atleast I don't think so haha.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, it looks like she'll break the tradition of releasing an album in October or November. If she's releasing new music in the summer, I feel like it's probably going to be a pop record. If 'Reputation' told us anything, it was that the pop songs were slow burners, while the more savage & darker tracks started off well, then crashed. I'd like to see more collaborations on this album though, since there was only one on her last one.
I doubt 'Old Town Road' will be above 900 points for more than just this week, but it's still probably going to outperform the #2 song by at least double next week.

J

Jstar

1

Well she broke even years in 2017, so she will keep on breaking her own traditions it seems.

Is there any particular collaborations you would like to see on the album? I think about 3 collabs for a album is a good number, I don't like too much though because I like the main focus to be on the actual artists album lol.

My guess is Old Town Road may be around like 600pts when Taylor comes out. I feel like Taylor should do more than that. Look what you made me Do debuted with over a 1,000 though, which was massive.

How do you feel Taylor will fare in the U.K with her new song and album?

avatar

Piran

1

She got above 1000? I thought 'Hello' was the only song to do that since Simm started doing predictions, while 'Look What You Made Do' shot into the 900s in its first full week of tracking. I do agree that if 'Old Town Road' is at around 600 points when Taylor returns, she'll get the #1 on the Hot 100.
In the UK, 'Someone You Loved' set a new personal best this week, even though It's now on its seventh week at #1 over here! 'Old Town Road' will probably dethrone next week, then depending on how long it holds up, Taylor might be able to sneak in a week at the top of the singles chart. I'm a lot more confident that her album will go to #1 though, unless it coincides with another big artist releasing on the same day.

avatar

Piran

1

Oh, as for your other question, I feel like Shawn Mendes could fit on a good pop song with her. The thing is though, Taylor collaborates with a lot more males than females, so her & Camila would definitely be a good pairing, although that's definitely bias, haha!
At the same time, my gut instinct is telling me if she sticks to the approach she took on 'Reputation', she might work with a British rapper on it.

avatar

Andr Krawutk

1

did JESS GLYNNE actually flop with her new single?

it only reached #88

J

Jstar

1

Well I remember Simm was only predicting in the 900pts for Look what you made me Do. But I think either on ATRL or Twitter, he confirmed it actually did over 1,000pts when he added up it's numbers.

I am more confident she will get a number 1 debut in the U.S compared to the U.K. for her single. But I definitely agree her album should go number 1 in both countries. Either way it is less than 2 weeks away now, it will be fun.

Speaking of Old Town Road, it should break the streaming record in the U.S this week, with possibly over 130k million in total streams.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, really surprised how much it underperformed, given how dominant she's been on the charts over the past few years.

avatar

Piran

1

Ah, fair enough, the same might end up happening with 'Old Town Road', since its streaming numbers have been underestimated all week. I feel like if it's being boosted from around 300 points to nearly 1000, then they should have no reason not to credit Billy Ray Cyrus at this point.
Yeah, five #1s in the US compared to one in the UK. We announce our charts three days before you do though, so if she hits the top spot here, it's extremely likely she'll do the same in your country.
Did you see that BTS have already beaten BLACKPINK's YouTube record? 'Boy With Luv' was viewed 78 million times in its first 24 hours & I see it possibly being able to pull off a Top 10 debut on the Hot 100 next week!

J

Jstar

1

Those K Pop fans are something else lol. 78 million views in one day is insane lol.

Hopefully Billy Ray Cyrus will be credited tomorrow. Well I see the billboard 200 article is out. I will talk to you more over there.

avatar

Andr Krawutk

1

it only reached # 88
are you sure that it was officially released as a single?
On the other hand JESS GLYNNE is the shooting star of the last 5-6 years !
She had so much hits and number one hits like nobody else.
However i fear that she could end like PAULA ABDUL or Taylor dayne. Both had lot of hits in a short time but flop after that

avatar

Piran

0

Hopefully her career isn't frontloaded. No matter what happens though, the fact that she not only broke but extended the record for most #1s by a British solo female artist in the space of four years is insane!
I don't think 'No One' is an official single actually, although it does have a music video & also got some airplay.
