Hi John, we weren't aware we had! We'll look into this.

Is there any update to the printable link which was taken off the page. I am now getting behind.

Oh great, another generic piano ballad, as if we don't have enough of those already! There's nothing special or original about "Someone You Loved", it'll be forgotten about before the end of the year.

I am glad to have finally a HIT, A BOMB at number 1, well deserved! Also Pink is good!

Just saying!

My thoughts & observations on the UK charts as always…
- ‘Someone You Loved’ becomes Lewis Capaldi’s first ever #1 single! This week, it accumulated 58,000 combined sales, which includes 6 million audio streams.
- With ‘Giant’ by Calvin Harris & Rag’n’Bone Man at #2, it marks the first time since November 2011 that Scottish acts have occupied the Top 2 spots of the singles chart in the same week.
- Lewis Capaldi is also the first male artist to hit #1 in 2019, which is the longest wait in a calendar year for men to reach the top spot since 2009 (‘Right Round’ by Flo Rida was the first male #1 of that year on 7th March).
- ‘Dancing With A Stranger’ by Sam Smith & Normani is #1 on the national radio airplay chart for a fifth consecutive week.
- ‘7 Rings’ by Arana Grande, does however, return to #1 on the YouTube chart with 2.78 million weekly views (a 13.7 percent decrease from the week before). She has replaced herself at #1 on this chart for a second week in a row.
- P!NK – WALK ME HOME (#8)
I’ll be totally honest, despite her closing the BRITs & getting the Outstanding Contribution To Music award, I thought this would still drop fast throughout the week due to its struggling streams. Thankfully, radio & sales held up well & it was definitely deserved! If there’s one thing I’ve always enjoyed about P!NK as a singer, it’s that she rarely holds back when it comes to belting vocals & here’s another example of that! Although, despite her powerful voice & the stomping beat, she actually seeks comfort from a lover at the end of the day & she’s apprehensive about being alone with all of the trouble that’s happening around her. I still think I’ll almost always prefer her classic pop-punk eras more than anything she’ll do in this lane, but that honestly doesn’t mean a lot here, because I really like this regardless! Solid 8/10.
- YNW MELLY – MURDER ON MY MIND (#31)
Yeah, just looking at the title of this, I immediately had a bad feeling about it… turns out I was right! Even if we put aside the horrifying coincidence that he very recently got charged with killing two people to the title of the song, it’s ultimately just another disposable & irritating trap song! The grainy trap beat & the heavily autotuned vocals are bad enough just by themselves, so why did anyone thinking combining them would improve matters? It really doesn’t! I mean, there’s at least a good idea of a piano line, but it’s so oddly placed in the mix that it kills any trajectory this song was trying to take. Also, I can kind of see how people would find this song menacing, but YNW Melly quickly goes off-topic to flexing. So yeah, the artist might be bad for his current legal situation, so I guess it’s fitting in a way that his first charting UK is also not worthy of success too. I’m thinking a 3/10!
- DAVE – BLACK (#40)
This had every reason to chart this week, with Dave announcing details of his upcoming debut album, all of his tracks flooding the Top 40 without warning recently & this song even getting some controversy among listeners. You know what though, I’m so glad the Radio 1 DJ’s were on Dave’s side here, because I totally agree with what Annie Mac said about this being an important & thought provoking message to spread, with Dave giving his beliefs on what being “black” actually means to him. You can also tell that he sung this with more passion than ever, even if the choppy flow & scattered production kind of killed the suspense for me a bit. Overall, I don’t know if I’m going to engage this song too much & artists like Kendrick Lamar for example do hits like this better, but you know what, it’s nice to see Dave bring anti-racism to the charts & contextually, we need more singles about other people’s cultures. For now, I’m thinking a solid 7/10 for this!
- On the albums chart, ‘Thank U, Next’ by Ariana Grande is #1 for a third consecutive week, with a lead of 5,000 combined sales.
- The rest of the Top 5 is: ‘The Greatest Showman [Soundtrack]’ (stationary at #2), ‘A Star Is Born [Soundtrack]’ (stationary at #3), ‘Bohemian Rhapsody [Soundtrack]’ (stationary at #4) & ‘Staying At Tamara’s’ by George Ezra (stationary at #5). Despite last week’s BRITs, it’s the first time the Top 5 of the albums chart hasn’t changed since the first week of August last year.
- Looking ahead to next week, these songs could enter the Top 40 for the first time: ‘Sucker’ by The Jonas Brothers, ‘Nobody’ by Martin Jensen & James Arthur, ‘Saint’ by Alexis Ashley, ‘Juice’ by Lizzo, ‘Flux’ by Ellie Goulding, ‘Rule The World’ by 2 Chainz ft Ariana Grande, ‘Robbery’ by Juice WRLD & maybe even more.
- Thanks for reading everyone! I hope you all have a good weekend. :)

i find it a bit strange that people start listening to a song and supporting an artist after they kill two people, you'd think it would be the opposite
Christian Jahn
It seems that people love the `realness´ of their lyrics.
Nischal Joshi
I still remember me replying to you in surprise when I even saw Grace charting. Now, to see Capaldi officially having a #1 single, is incredibly awesome. Also glad that it has grown on to you. :D
Piran
Haha, yeah, 'Someone You Loved' was definitely a slow burner on my charts & it snuck up on me slowly too! :)
I wonder how high 'Grace' will end up getting, since it also hit a new peak today! Top 20 seems likely, but Top 10 could be a possibility eventually too.
Piran
Yeah, it's honestly kind of sickening that murdering two people is primarily what caused this guy to get a hit! :/
Foxes
Hey Piran! It's great to see 'Someone You Loved' climb to #1 this week! Even if I do prefer the 2 Ariana tracks, I still actually really like this track and it's been climbing very fast for me recently as well! For now, I'd probably give it a solid or maybe even a strong 8/10, but that could increase even further in the coming weeks. I'm glad that this went to #1 over 'Giant'; while I don't mind 'Giant' by any means, it's still only around a 6 or 7/10 for me.
I find it funny that 'break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored' overtook '7 rings' again this week. The former has had the slight edge on Spotify since it released, but the gap over the past week has been incredibly small (there's only 1,000 streams between them on the most recent Spotify chart!). In a different world, Ariana could've been replacing herself at #1 for the 3rd straight week this week.
As for the new entries, I quite enjoy 'Walk Me Home', though not as much as you, as I'd give it a strong 6/10, while 'Black' would be my favourite debut of the week with a strong 7/10; it definitely makes me excited for Dave's debut full-length LP which is coming out in just 5 days! 'Murder On My Mind' is definitely the worst debut of the week, even ignoring the acts of the artist I'd give it a 4/10 at best.
'Sucker' looks like it'll easily be the highest debut next week, quite possibly even with a Top 10 debut, while 'I Can't Get Enough' will probably debut and 'Leave a Light On' could definitely re-enter with the release of Tom Walker's debut album. I hope that Ariana can stay #1 on the albums chart for another week as well, and with her streams at the moment it's definitely possible!
Foxes
I think it's a case of people hearing about the artist for the first time when they go to jail, and then listening to their music to see what it's about, like when 6ix9ine was arrested. For 'Murder On My Mind' specifically I can see the draw to it given the name and content of the song combined with the horrific acts of the artist. At least it's not actually benefiting the artist, since as far as I'm aware they don't actually get to keep the money if they've been convicted and sent to jail.
Piran
Hey Gameskiller! :)
I'm definitely happy with the new #1 too, although unlike you, I prefer 'Someone You Loved' way more than 'Grace', while you seem to have about an equal opinion on each of them.
I think where 'Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored' had the biggest advantage over '7 Rings' was on Apple Music, where the former was #4 this week, but the latter was far behind it at #18. The former is also at #15 on iTunes, while the latter was at #33. Given a small YouTube difference too, I'm not so surprised that '7 Rings' fell behind back on Friday.
On the Official Chart Update, 'Giant' looks set to be out in front for now, however, it's only leading by about 500 copies ahead of 'Someone You Loved' which is extremely little & I actually checked out how each song did today in each major chart component...
'Giant'...
- Spotify #4 (360,587)
- Apple Music #3
- YouTube #5 (1.64 million)
- iTunes #1 (1.0000)
'Someone You Loved'...
- Spotify #1 (421,795)
- Apple Music #1
- YouTube #8 (1.48 million)
- iTunes #2 (0.7466)
'Someone You Loved' has, however, been increasing in every one of these over the past 24 hours, which makes me think that it'll have passed 'Giant' again by Friday. .
