cher #33 in sales chart, #92 in official chart.. very strange
OS
Orange Studio
I'd say it's quite obvious, Mamma Mia is obviously not going to be popular with the younger generation but the older people who typically buy singles instead of stream them will result in the song have a higher sales impact than it will in the actual chart
mildredfarts
great to see so much upward movement in the charts..it takes me back to the late 70's/early 80's to see such a thing but there's hardly anything in the charts of now that i can call 'classic' in years to come.
Dan Love
Well there's not a classic in the chart every week, even in the 70s and 80s there could be a gap of a year before the release of another classic
Piran
My thoughts & observations on the UK charts as always…
- ‘In My Feelings’ by Drake spends a second consecutive week atop the singles chart, having been streamed 9.1 million times since last Friday.
- ‘One Kiss’ by Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa holds at #1 on the airplay chart.
- ‘Girls Like You’ by Maroon 5 ft Cardi B returns to #1 on YouTube for a sixth non-consecutive week at #1. Its viewing number increases 19.6% from last week, with 3.75 million views over the past seven days.
- LOUD LUXURY FT BRANDO – BODY (#26)
I’ve grown to like this way more than I expected to, but there are so many production elements here that I absolutely love, such as the groovy piano in the background, or how the auto-tuned yet fitting vocals keep a chilled pace to build up to that deep house drop. I thought the chopped-up sample there was cool too & makes this all the more catchy. The lyrics might not stand out too much for a summer anthem, but the instrumentation sure does! I’m thinking a very light 9/10.
- THE 1975 – LOVE IT IF WE MADE IT (#33)
I think this is reasonably good, but not amazing. The chilled production is definitely a lane I’m happy to see this band go down, but don’t ignore the messages they’re trying to get out there about the grievances of the world, even if they’re not prepared to give up hope. The vocal riffs are a bit too shouty for me, but the 80s sophisticated pop melodies & the squealing disco effects make me end up enjoying this overall. Probably a light 7/10.
- 6IX9INE FT NICKI MINAJ & MURDA BEATZ – FEFE (#35)
6ix9ine’s usual aggression shows with his angry shouting over the intro at the start of the track, but then he calms his voice down shortly after & he honestly doesn’t sound all that interesting. Nicki Minaj brings a very disappointing flow & Murda Beatz adds very little to the song. The trap lyrics are forgettable & the auto-tuned delivery being mediocre saves this from being outright terrible, but there’s hardly any personality here to make this at all passable. Really light 4/10 from me. .
- PANIC! AT THE DISCO – HIGH HOPES (#37)
A lot of surprises here, especially Brendon Urie’s decent & raspy upper register & the brassy, exuberant production from the start. I respect how the lyrics look at chasing destinies & dreams & being true to yourself both personally & musically. It doesn’t stand out as much as ‘Say Amen’, but it’s a burst of excitement that I won’t be forgetting for a while. Strong 7/10 here.
- B YOUNG – 079ME (#39)
I’m sorry, I just can’t stand B Young’s voice here, even if it’s not as annoying as it was in ‘Jumanji’. The content is about him wanting this girl to call him, that’s all it is. The smooth tropical vibe is becoming way too overused in UK urban music & this just becomes more irritating with every listen, so yeah… 3/10.
- BENNY BLANCO, HALSEY & KHALID – EASTSIDE (#40)
Cashmere Cat might not be credited as a producer on this, but I’m definitely a fan of the minimalist guitars here. Lyrically, it kind of reminds me of ‘Closer’, but with a more romantic sentiment from Halsey. Both her & Khalid could’ve done without the auto-tune, but I really like the rhythm of the latter’s singing here. Neither have much chemistry between them, but there’s a vibe to this that I can get behind. I’d say a solid 6/10,
On the albums chart, ‘Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again’ rises 4-1 having accumulated 35,000 combined sales this past week.
- With ‘The Greatest Showman’ at #2, it’s the first time since May 1978 that the two spots have been occupied by films. With the original ‘Mamma Mia’ at #5, it’s the first time three films appear simultaneously in the Top 5 since February 1969.
- Looking ahead to next week, these songs could enter the Top 40 for the first time: ‘Faith’s Song’ by Amy Wadge, ‘Eyes Open’ by Kris James, some ‘Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again’ songs, ‘Don’t Leave Me Alone’ by David Guetta ft Anne-Marie, ‘No Brainer’ by DJ Khaled ft Justin Bieber, Chance The Rapper & Quavo, ‘Let Me Live’ by Rudimental & Major Lazer ft Anne-Marie & Mr Eazi, 'Best Life' by Hardy Caprio ft One Acen & maybe even more.
- Thanks for reading everyone! I hope you all have a good weekend. :)

I really like seeing 'In My Feelings' top the chart again, and honestly wouldn't mind it staying there for as long as 'God's Plan' did. However, I would much prefer it if some other songs managed to reach the top in a few weeks. Seeing 'Youngblood' and 'Jackie Chan' reach the Top 5 is amazing as well; I never thought that either of them would make it that high. For 'Jackie Chan' specifically, I remember seeing it debut right near the bottom of the Top 100 on Spotify, and then watching it climb on both Spotify and OCC and being ecstatic when it broke the Top 40 on OCC. I never even expected it to reach Top 10, let alone Top 5!
I like seeing 'Body', '079ME' and 'Eastside' debut this week, and I didn't mind 'High Hopes', but I wasn't really a fan of the other debuts.
I really like seeing 'Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again' reach #1 on the albums chart, but mostly because it stops 'The Greatest Showman' from getting another week at #1. I've had more than enough of that album for a long time now. I also find it weird how some film soundtracks, like the two 'Mamma Mia' albums and 'The Greatest Showman', are allowed to chart on the main chart, while others, like 'Black Panther: The Album', are relegated to the compilations chart.
Looking ahead to next week, I really hope that 'Don't Leave Me Alone' enters the chart, but I hope that 'No Brainer' doesn't have a big entry. Considering that 'I'm The One' was my least favourite song of 2017, and 'No Brainer' is by the exact same group of artists, I didn't really have high expectations going in. While 'No Brainer' is undoubtedly better than 'I'm The One', I'm still not a massive fan. It's more like a 4/10 rather than the 0/10 that I'd give 'I'm The One'.
Piran
'In My Feelings' is better than 'God's Plan' for sure, but I hope it's not #1 for 9 weeks! 'Youngblood' & 'Jackie Chan's success has surprised me too, although I don't see either of them getting to #1, but Top 5 is still really good! :D
'Body' entering the Top 40 is amazing news for me, 'Eastside' is slowly growing on me, but I hope we get rid of '079ME' as soon as possible.
I think 'Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again' might even pass 'The Greatest Showman' as my favourite movie of 2018 so far, but both were awesome, so it's hard to choose there.
'Don't Leave Me Alone' could end up with a strong debut on my personal chart, maybe even Top 10, but I wasn't really into 'No Brainer' either. I think I actually prefer 'I'm The One' to be honest.
Foxes
I probably should rephrase that. I'd much prefer to see other songs reach the top in a few weeks time, but I wouldn't be desperate for 'In My Feelings' to get knocked off the top if it stays there for that long, unlike some other tracks that spent that long at the top. I don't think it'll manage that long anyway. My prediction would be in the 4-6 week range.
'Don't Leave Me Alone' could be entering in the Top 10 on my chart, so I'm glad to hear that it could do just as well on yours as well!
