My thoughts on the UK charts this week
- Drake ended up getting his third #1 single with "God's Plan" following him featuring on "What's my name" by rihanna and "One Dance" with Wizkid & Kyla
-"God's plan" starts off with a strong point at #1 on the Official Audio Streaming charts last Friday. He also has set the new global record for biggest first day streams with this particular song.
-God's plan is the first song to have a #1 debut on the chart singles since "Too good at goodbyes" by Sam Smith.
- "Finesse" by Bruno Mars ft Cardi B is the new #1 on airplay this week, I do like the song but I think there is definitely some songs that could have got that place.
-So Drake coming out of nowhere since his mixtape "More life" to take the #1, it was going to be some close singles for sure and I guess I am fine with the result, I just hope that this song doesn't become as big as "one dance" because I can't see it becoming big. This song isn't bad though, as the song has a bounce to it but it is a let down for me. Overall this song is good but nothing amazing either.
-Mabel and Not3s back at it again with "Fine Line" at #32! I personally love Mabel's songs at the moment and I think she has made an amazing introduction to the music industry. The song is catchy and bouncy but I would say the other songs are slightly better than "Fine Line". Not3s doesn't really do alot in this song as the other ones yet sing along with Mabel. It's slightly boring by the time Not3s comes in as I just think this makes the song less entertaining as usual. I am more of a fan of Mabel's more slower songs like Finders keepers and My lover.
-Very very happy to see Barking hit #2 on the top charts! I considerably listen to this song alot and sing along. If I could I would listen to this song everyday.
-I was expecting River to hit #1 this week as Ed Sheeran did so well with Perfect but I guess not. I personally was expecting this because after Perfect had so many weeks at #1 I thought it would be necessary for that to hit #1
-IDGAF rises up quickly after a few weeks and I'm in love with the song! I would hope to see it hit #1 in the next few weeks.

Whats the mater with Kylie Minogue ? No video , no remixes , sadly no streaming . The result new entry at no 47 and on sales chart new at no 15, 'Dancing' sounds good but without promotion next week will fall out of the chart and Kylie do not deserves it .She is a pop legend and she should have at least a top 20 with the lead single of her 'Golden' album .

Disappointing chart, shame to see my my my! and she loves control drop out of the top 40 after just 1 week, and also that leave a light on also failed to get there this week. I also don't rate the new number 1, although it is better than barking at least. Nice to see strangers climbing though, hopefully it's streaming will pick up enough to see it in the top 10 next week.

Same. But I think "She Loves Control" is gonna become Camila's next single from her album (Not right now, but someday). It's the most radio-friendly song aside from "Havana" and "Never Be the Same". And if it does become a single, it should reach a new peak, let alone return to the top 40.

Surprise! Surprise! Veteran popster Kylie Minogue fails to return to the Top 40 after a midweek No.22 in the charts. Peaking at no.47 and sadly like many over 35s has no chance with streaming.(Something a lot of the Radio 2 audience like me don't dig!)

If age is the issue, then why doesn't it apply to David Guetta who must be 50 by now? I think that in Kylie's case, the song is just pretty awful, like the whole of her last album.

Technically he can get away with it as he is a DJ/Producer in the background who has his finger on the pulse of the current generation and what they want. He could work with Ed Sheeran,Justin Bieber ,Drake etc. if he or they wanted too and still make the charts. There are producers out there who are no spring chickens who are still involved in the chart stuff of today.

She Loves Control isn't even a single so why should it spend very long in the charts? It would be like when Ed Sheeran took over the top 20 with 'Divide' for a few weeks, with loads of album tracks controlling the charts (just with a limit of three on each)

- The second song from his new EP by Drake is called âDiplomatic Immunityâ & enters the chart at #21 this week. Iâve got a bit of a mixed view on Drake as an artist overall, but heâs been putting out so much material recently that Iâm just becoming bored of him & how âOne Danceâ spent 15 weeks at #1 back in 2016 was just mad, but if the quality is still there, Iâm more than happy to welcome it! In this case, we do actually get a bit more quality than the more successful track I reviewed above. Drake measuring successes & taking down his enemies is where he is the most tactical. The production consists of synth strings & rattling hi-hats, breaking away from his recent direction into South African house & dancehall. Itâs a shame that this performed the least well out of the two singles that came out, because thereâs more likeability here than in âGodâs Planâ.
- Two-time former collaborators Mabel & Not3s team up once again for âFine Lineâ, which begins its chart run at #32 today! I liked their previous team-ups for âFinders Keepersâ & âMy Lover [Remix]â, as they had a relaxed tone to them which might not have stood out as anything special, but they were pleasant listens. âFine Lineâ deals with the playful beginnings of a relationship, as she rides that tropical beat & her vocals are yet again on-point. Not3s doesnât really add much energy to this to be completely honest & Iâve already forgotten his contribution to this like an hour after hearing this. Itâs slightly quicker paced that Mabelâs two previous hits, but thereâs no significant improvement, although I see the appeal to this & why sheâs been one of the countryâs upcoming talents over the past few months.
- The next new entry is âThese Daysâ by Rudimental ft Jess Glynne, Macklemore & Dan Caplan, entering at #33. Thereâs no doubt that Rudimental are responsible for some of the biggest drum & bass crossovers of the decade & theyâve collaborated with some huge UK artists recently. This acts as the second single to their upcoming third studio album & it can be best described as a feel-good anthem which looks at being thankful for the relationship you had with someone & hoping that you could be friends again one day & look back at the memories you shared together. Rudimental continue to experiment with their sound & this reminds me of something Years & Years wouldâve put out on their last album in terms of production. Jess Glynneâs vocals are incredible as usual & I like the R&B & soul tone that Dan Caplan gives, but I just wish we got a bit more from Macklemore, as he only says a few words at the start & end of the song. As a whole, this was an enjoyable listen, I hope it does well!
- The last new arrival to the Top 40 this week is âSick Boyâ by The Chainsmokers, which makes its debut on the Official Charts at #40, becoming their eighth song to reach the region! For as much as Iâve been mostly been a fan of the EDM duo, theyâve never really won over many critics. However, while I personally loved that album, this new certainly came as a surprise, as they move away from their dance roots and more towards the successful pop sound, but with more aggression. They seem to have abandoned their romantic flair & the content here is notably more meaningful, as they discuss how America is divided, bringing in political content. That said, despite the darker hook, Drew seems vulnerable on the bridge & regarding his vocals, theyâve definitely improved from say âParisâ or âCloserâ, as he sounds far more interesting, although âSick Boyâ in general reminds me of a 21 Pilots song more than anything theyâve released so far, although Iâm not the biggest fan of the first pre-chorus, as it really doesnât suit his voice well. Also, itâs nice to see them use a piano melody that uses more than two or three notes & they throw in some minor piano chords to open the song & they are even some touches of symphony to this in places. âSick Boyâ was definitely a big risk for The Chainsmokers & itâs still decent, although itâs not on the level of what theyâve previously charted with.
- On the albums chart, the soundtrack to âThe Greatest Showmanâ spends a third consecutive week at #1. In doing so, itâs the second longest #1 album in the past year, behind âáâ which spend a huge 20 weeks in total at the top!
- âThe Greatest Showmanâ received a further 39,000 combined sales this week, which is just 1,000 less than last week. Its total sales are currently at 129,000.
- The rest of the Top 5 this week is: âM A N I Aâ by Fall Out Boy (debuts at #2), âRuinsâ by First Aid Kit (debuts at #3), âáâ by Ed Sheeran (3-4) & âRevivalâ by Eminem (4-5).
- Looking ahead to next week, these songs could be entering the Top 40 for the first time: âSay Somethingâ by Justin Timberlake ft Chris Stapleton, âLeave A Light Onâ by Tom Walker & maybe even more.
- Elsewhere, Iâm very happy that: âIDGAFâ, âBreatheâ & especially âThis Is Meâ all hit the Top 10 & that âStrangersâ was the biggest climber inside the Top 40 this week!

I don't mind seeing 'God's Plan' hitting #1, but I hope that it doesn't stay there for too long. I do prefer 'God's Plan' to 'Diplomatic Immunity', though both are fine, even if neither is anything particularly special. It is quite amazing how non of Eminem's 9 UK #1 singles have managed to spend more than 1 week at #1, though.
I do really love seeing 'Fine Line' as the highest non-Drake debut this week, though. It took a little while to grow on me, but now I absolutely love the song, and it really could be a serious contender for #1 on my chart in the coming weeks! It's already the highest charting non-Camila song on it!
'These Days' is another song that I like seeing chart, though it's nothing really good for me right now. I can see it growing on me in the future, but for now it's just OK. It does get a bit confusing for me though since every time I hear the name of the song I immediately think of another song called 'These Days' by Mike Stud, and that's a song that I really like. It takes me a few seconds to realise that people are talking about the Rudimental one and not the Mike Stud one. :D
I'm not a huge fan of 'Sick Boy'. While I haven't heard all of The Chainsmokers' songs, this is the worst that I've heard. It is another song that I think will grow on me, though.
I'm a bit sad to see 'Camila' drop out of the Top 5 on the album chart, but I'm also relieved that it didn't completely crash down and is still reasonably strong at #6. I do find 'Revival's stubbornness quite funny though. After debuting at #1, it quickly dropped down to #3 and then to #5, and I think most people thought that it would drop out of the Top 5 the week after, but it's been clinging in there at either #4 or #5 ever since.

I don't think 'God's Plan' will be there for say any more than a month; while it's still easily dominant on Spotify (about 190,000 streams more than 'Barking' today), 'God's Plan' has already slipped a fair way behind 'Barking' on sales. I'm still not sure if Ramz will get the #1 though, because he'll probably hit the 300:1 ratio before Drake does.
Yeah, none of the debuts really stood out as amazing, but none were bad either. 'Sick Boy' would probably be my favourite considering how much I like The Chainsmokers & while I was surprised to see 'Fine Line' as the highest debut that wasn't from Drake, I'm completely okay with that, although I don't see it bigger than 'Finders Keepers' or 'My Lover'.
Do you think 'Camila' will re-appear inside of the Top 5, or do you think it won't have much longevity & keep falling? Either way, I think if 'She Loves Control' is released as an official single, it will become big, like probably peaking in the Top 20 or potentially Top 10.
Are you interested in The Grammys then? I'm looking forward to them, but I might have to wait until tomorrow to watch them. :/

I don't know whether 'Camila' will be able to reach the Top 5 again, but I hope it can. I don't want it to just have 1 week in the region. It should have better longevity than a lot of the new entries we see on the chart every week though, so I think it has a chance if there's a quiet week.
I still find it pretty incredible as to just how much longevity 'á' has though. At this point it's basically the UK's default #1 album on a quiet week, and when 'The Greatest Showman' eventually falls (which is taking a lot longer than I initially expected) I wouldn't be surprised to see 'á' back at #1. Last week when it was at #4, it had around double the sales of 'Revival' at #5; 16,000 vs 8,000. It's always far ahead of everything but the big new releases and 'The Greatest Showman'.
I didn't watch the Grammys, but I did see that Bruno won in all 6 of the categories that he was nominated for, which is amazing!

Rudimental continue to be experimental with their sound & this reminds me of something Years & Years wouldâve put out on their last album in terms of production. Jess Glynneâs vocals are stellar as usual & I like the R&B & soul vibe that Dan Caplan gives, but I just wish we got a bit more from Macklemore, as he only says a few words at the start & end of the song. As a whole, this was an enjoyable listen, I hope it does well!
- The last new arrival to the Top 40 this week is âSick Boyâ by The Chainsmokers, which makes its debut on the Official Charts at #40, becoming their eighth song to reach the region! For as much as Iâve been a fan of the American EDM duo with the exception of â#selfieâ, theyâve never really won over many critics. However, while I personally loved that album, this new certainly came as a surprise, as they move away from their dance roots and more towards the successful pop sound, but with a more aggressive edge. They seem to have abandoned their romantic flair & the content here is notably more meaningful, as they discuss the east-west divide in America, addressing racial politics & the emptiness of Hollywood. That said, despite the darker hook, Drew seems vulnerable on the bridge & regarding his vocals, theyâve definitely improved from say âParisâ or âCloserâ, as he sounds far more interesting, although âSick Boyâ in general resembles a Twenty One Pilots song more than anything theyâve released so far, although Iâm not the biggest fan of the sing-rapping, as it really doesnât suit his voice well. Also, itâs nice to see them use a piano melody that uses more than two or three notes & they throw in some mournful chords to open the song & they are even some symphonic touches to this in places. âSick Boyâ was definitely a big risk for The Chainsmokers & itâs still decent, although itâs not on the level of what theyâve previously charted with.
- On the albums chart, the soundtrack to âThe Greatest Showmanâ spends a third consecutive week at #1. In doing so, it becomes the second longest #1 album in the past year, behind âáâ which spend a massive 20 weeks in total at the top!
- âThe Greatest Showmanâ racked up a further 39,000 combined sales this week, which is just 1,000 less than last week. Its total sales currently stand at 129,000.
- The rest of the Top 5 this week is: âM A N I Aâ by Fall Out Boy (debuts at #2), âRuinsâ by First Aid Kit (debuts at #3), âáâ by Ed Sheeran (3-4) & âRevivalâ by Eminem (4-5).
- Looking ahead to next week, these songs could be entering the Top 40 for the first time: âSay Somethingâ by Justin Timberlake ft Chris Stapleton, âLeave A Light Onâ by Tom Walker & maybe even more.
- Elsewhere, Iâm very happy that: âIDGAFâ, âBreatheâ & especially âThis Is Meâ all hit the Top 10 & that âStrangersâ was the biggest climber inside the Top 40 this week!
