"Million Reasons" deserves to be higher!

Okay, this is the last time I mention Grow Up by Olly Murs not hitting the top 40 but did my eyes just deceive me there? Did that song seriously get outpeaked by Luv by Tory Lanez, one of the worst songs of the year? Sigh. And that MASSIVE Drop for You Don't Know Love. Ooh.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

2

Rockabye at 3? I swear to god, if that hits number 1... Well, I'd rather that be number 1 than LITTLE MIX, but , Clean Bandit are selling out, making nowadays-generic tropical house-esque songs to get typical teens off their feet, and that's already proved by how Rockabye has hit higher than Tears. Interesting idea for the song, but yeah, sounds totally generic, they were fine before, no wonder why Neil left, ha ha ha! >:)

Okay, Little Mix are still at number 1, while Sucker For Pain takes a right dip, both issues on their own, BUT... BUT... Crank It has now entered, and after hearing that my ears met torture. Get it out instantly.

Nice to see British talent at #1, #2, and #3. The Americans have really been dominating this year until now!

Congratulations for Little Mix on making it 3 weeks at number 1 on the chart!
I think 4 weeks is the maximum it deserves though (don`t really want another song spending 5+ weeks at 1)
I think Clean Bandit have a MASSIVE chance of hitting number 1 next week. Rockabye is doing really well when it comes to sales and is increasing in streams. Interesting on this weeks chart though that James Arthur almost went back to number 1.at least there are still people challenging Little Mix.
Glad to see Bruno mars back in the top 10. His X factor and live lounge performances definitely helped, 24K magic may sound similar to uptown funk but why not go with the same formula as the last song f it is one of the biggest songs ever? LOL
I agree with Piran that Drakes new song is not the best. However, I actually really like the beat to it but he is just shouting throughout and it feels like a rushed song really imo.
Glad Don`t wanna know is climbing, i think it`s my favorite song this week (it`s grew on me alot) I think it has a brilliant chance of hitting the top 10.
Hoping Shawn Mendes can climb over the coming weeks, Mercy i still love.
Good to see Galantis climb with love on me also,
Glad that Lousia Johnson and Jonas Blue have debuted highish. Hopefully they can climb next week as i love both songs. By your side is catchy with good vibes and So good i think is a really good pop song.
Also good to see Crank It hit the top 40. I went out last night and it was played loads. Have it on repeat atm. One of those silly but fun songs.
I am however scared that Juja on that beat will hit the top 40 next week. Not a fan of it atm.
Congratulations also to james Arthur for the number 1 album this week.
And well done to Drake and Calvin Harris - One Dance has gone x3 platinum and TIWYCF has gone x2 platinum
No doubt One Dance will be the biggest song of the year. TIWYCF will be in the top 5 for songs of 2016 i think.
overall, not a bad week but not the best

I hope Rockabye doesn't hit number 1, sure it will be good to see Little Mix fall but Rockabye is too.

Here's another great pop song of 2016. It has a fantastic chorus.

Please note the video has flashing images so if you don't like fast moving flashing images just close your eyes and listen to the music. I think this is one of the best pop songs of the year! It may not hit the top 100 but it's too good a song to ignore!

Why the is Thriller of all songs back on the charts! In 2016!!!!! I mean, I'm not mad, but what the . 😲

G

Songs that didn't make NOW 95 that should've:

1. Starboy
2. 24K Magic
3. Heathens
4. Fake Love
5. Sucker for Pain
6. Love Me Now
7. Toothbrush
8. By Your Side
9. All We Know
10. Crank It (Woah)
11. Let Me Hold You (Turn Me On)
12. The Ocean
13. Don't Need No Money
14. Don't You Know

R

RIME

2

Starboy, 24K Magic, Love Me Now, and Crank It (Woah) are all likely candidates for the next mix. Toothbrush's opportunity sailed by a long time ago.

avatar

Dan Love

1

Really glad All We Know didn't make it. Can't believe that it even charted.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

Wait, so Starboy isn't in but that flopping-potential Charli XCX song is? No wonder I'm not going anywhere near now 95. Not that I like Starboy, but it's 1000 times more successful.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

And no Sucker For Pain... unless it's due to being in Suicide Squad, it's just more proof NOW are turning into s**t.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

True but if Charli XCX's new song gets a place WTF is Toothbrush?

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

W as in 'where', by the way, I know it's that flop song by DNCE

R

RIME

1

You somewhat answered your own question: it already had its single run and was not a success. Meanwhile, "After the Afterparty" is a new track and NOW is essentially gambling that it will eventually be a hit in the UK.

G

Gail

1

Completely agree with you RIME they did that last year with "alright with me" by Anne-Marie. Not too impressed with the albums and the decrease in amount of number ones in each year and each album, only 10 this year, hopefully "rockabye" will be the 11th. Kind of agree with you now, toothbrush wasn't a complete flop but it would be irrelevant to include it on NOW 95. And also take back mentioning "all we know" as it flopped. Thanks for replying.

G

Gail

0

Thanks for replying synthesiza. Sucker for Pain and Heathens both didn't make the tracklist after heathens becoming a top 10 hit and sucker for Pain peaking in the top 20, such a shame. But It's a real gamble including "after the after party as RIME said.

G

Gail

0

Why, it's a great song?

G

Gail

0

Why are these following songs on here, does anyone know why NOW are trying to make these hits:

1. September Song????? (Great vocals but hasn't charted)
2. When You Love Someone (Still hasn't charted yet but love it)
3. Dangerously (Charlie)* (Hasn't charted and nobody knows about it yet)
4. After the Afterparty? (Favourite release of last week tbh but does it deserve to be a track?)
5. Sweet Lies* (hasn't done well yet, but love the song)
6. Michel Buble - I Believe in You (didn't chart very well)
7. Cruel (too irrelevant)
8. All We Needed (Craig david - single release hasn't happened yet)

Love all these songs but they don't deserve a place on the track list.

Hey everyone! I hope you're all having a great week. :)
So congratulations to Little Mix for a 3rd week at #1 with 'Shout Out To My Ex', which now ties 'Black Magic' as their longest UK #1 single. However Clean Bandit's 'Rockabye' (which grew on me a lot this week) is definitely the strongest contender to be the next #1, as it passed SOTME to go atop iTunes yesterday & even though streaming is also on the rise for 'Rockabye', it still needs a bit more momentum in this metric to top the Official Charts yet. There's a chance Clean Bandit could go to #1 next Friday, but I'm currently thinking they're more likely to do so in the following week.
Despite currently leading on Spotify, 'Say You Won't Let Go' is a bit too far behind on sales to return to #1 now (though a discount could make it a possibility), but there's still good news for James Arthur fans today as his new album. 'Back From The Edge', just debuted at #1 over on the albums chart.
I'm pleased to see '24k Magic' by Bruno Mars back in the Top 10 this week; this & 'Uptown Funk' show that Bruno is great at making funk music & his performance on X Factor last Sunday was really good too. Also I would definitely recommend listening to his latest single called 'Versace On The Floor', which is a slow 90s-style ballad.
As for the newest arrival in the Top 10, I'm not a fan of Drake's 'Fake Love' though, where the R&B beat didn't really impress me & we have Drake shouting through some of the choruses. I think I would have appreciated this more if he had waited a few months to release new music, but I'm already bored of him in the charts from this summer. 'One Dance' is a much better song, but still definitely not deserving of 15 weeks at #1.
In terms of this week's Top 40 debuts, 'So Good' & 'By Your Side' are certainly decent, but I've heard better from Louisa Johnson & Jonas Blue if I'm honest. I'm pleased to see 'Crank It [Woah]' in the Top 40 as well... I have no idea why I like this, but I have it on repeat all the time!

J

Cool review Piran. I was checking the U.K iTunes chart and I think it will definitely be between Clean Bandit and Little Mix for number 1 next week. Happy that Bruno got a boost also. That is cool for James Arthur.

I actually haven't heard Fake Love or Sneakin. But no one should be surprised he is rising since he is Drake lol. I definitely don't know that Crank It song. The only one I know is from Soulja Boy haha. I actually forgot. His song was Crank That lol.

avatar

Piran

1

Thanks! :)
Yeah I completely agree with your predictions for next week & I can't see any really high debuts in our charts for next Friday. Streaming has really helped Drake here in the UK, so he got the 2nd longest UK #1 of all-time with 'One Dance' earlier this year, despite only leading the sales chart for just 3 weeks! :O
Well 'Crank It' is a very fun & catchy dance song & it's got quite a good beat to it. Now that you mentioned Soulja Boy though, I should add that I absolutely love 'Crank That'! ;) LOL
Hopefully Sunshine Gal will be joining us on here shortly as well.

J

Jstar

2

That would be cool if Sunshine Gal could make it. I actually do like Crank That too. High debuts are a thing of the past it seems like. You know I noticed differently about the Hot 100 and U.K singles chart. The Hot 100 focuses on the top 10 the day before it is released. The U.K singles chart just focuses on the whole chart.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah #1 debuts actually happened quite often in the UK charts before 2016, but only: 'Pillowtalk', 'Cold Water' & 'Shout Out To My Ex' have been able to do that so far this year.
Also the BB200's Top 10 is always announced a day earlier than the Hot 100's Top 10, but did you notice that the albums chart & the singles chart are revealed at the same time over here? :)
Can you imagine how busy the Billboard comments threads would be if the US charts were published in this way? LOL

J

Jstar

2

I swear there use to be like 30 number 1 debuts each year it seemed like lol. I know it wasn't that much though. That is true the billboard 200 top 10 is revealed before also. I guess they place much more emphasis on the top 10 then the U.K.

We have like 600 comments for the billboard 200. Then we usually get like around 800 for the hot 100. It would be pretty crazy.

avatar

Piran

2

A couple of other things that are different to the UK charts to the Billboard ones:
1) Every Friday, the Official Charts show is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 at 4-5:45pm UK time & covers the Top 40. All of the charts are updated on this website as soon as the show finishes.
2) Every Monday, there is an Official Chart Update. That shows how the Top 100 predictions for the upcoming Friday, based on the performance of the songs over the weekend. On Billboard. we have Simm & Ines! ;) LOL
I think the recent UK chart articles have been getting about 100-150 comments each week, but we would rarely reach 50 back in the summer.

J

Jstar

1

Very interesting. We use to have Trl. We also use to have MTV. I don't think music exists on MTV anymore lol. Yeah I know you guys have a midweek chart update. That is pretty cool.

That is also nice the comment section has been getting a little more popular. Well back in Sunshine Gals day. They couldn't make predictions. They just had to wait for magazines and T.V. That must of sucked. Lol just kidding.

avatar

Piran

1

We also have MTV & there are several MTV channels for: hits, rock, dance, classics, etc. We've got televised repeats of the update show & official chart show throughout the week though. Doesn't Billboard have a podcast each Monday where Gary Trust talks about the rest of the Hot 100 beneath the Top 10?
It's good to see that you can now watch country music channels on TV in the UK though, as I really want this genre to gain in popularity over here. I don't think the UK has TRL though.
Yeah when 'One Dance' was stationary at #1, most of the commenters were constantly complaining about streaming, but it's good to see that they're posting their own reviews of the Top 100 now. :)
Maybe we'll be able to do our weekly lists on these comments threads as well soon! :D LOL
I can't remember which artist or group Sunshine Gal was planning to do Hot 100 & BB200 reviews tonight for, but I look forward to seeing them anyway. ;)

J

Jstar

1

Maybe we will be able to do a list one day over here. Well today is my late day at work. I just have had some time to talk. But I might see you later if you are still on around 12pm your time lol. Well enjoy the rest of the Night if I don't talk to you again.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah I probably will be on after midnight my time. Enjoy the rest of your day as well dude! :)

If you liked Bruno`s x factor performance Piran i recommend you watch his Radio 1 live lounge performance. He shamed it with 24k magic and performed 2 classics in locked out of heaven and treasure which were both amazing. He put so much energy into his live lounge

avatar

Piran

0

I'll definitely check it out, as I love both of those songs Bruno Mars songs that you mentioned. :)
So is that the best R1 Live Lounge you've heard this year then? My favourite of 2016 so far is Craig David's one. :D
Oh I just read your review & I completely agree with pretty much everything that you said. ;)

R

riley

1

Thanks Piran! Do you think don`t Wanna Know can reach the top 10 then? I think its got a great chance of going between 10-8
I think it may actually be. Craig Davids was just boss tho. The rapping he did was amazing. i think there tied :)
How has your week been btw?

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

I heard Crank It and already think it's gonna be among the top 10 worst songs of the year.

avatar

Piran

0

Haha I know it's certainly not for everyone! :)
So what are your favourite songs of 2016 then?

avatar

Piran

0

You're welcome! :)
Yeah 'Don't Wanna Know' should be in the lower part of the Top 10 for next week, but unless Maroon 5 discount it or perform it on the X Factor, then I don't see it getting much higher than that. Where do you think 'Find Me' by Sigma & Birdy will debut next Friday then?
Well my favourite part of Craig David's Live Lounge was definitely his performance of '16'. It's the mash-up of 'Where Are U Now?' & 'Fill Me In', but is easily my favourite song from his 'Following My Intuition' album. :D
My week has been great thanks! I've been very busy though, so that's why it took me a little while to reply to you. How did your week go then? ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

3

hey mate!!! just wanted to give a quick progress :): i'm able to walk and get up on my own without the crutch...albeit i still have a limp and can't walk normally. but i was walking so much on my own yesterday, i had to take a nap :D. it wore me out! but my dad was pleasantly shocked! :) just wanted to say hi and let you know how my progress is going along.

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Sunshine Gal! I'm happy that you're starting to walk on your own now. :)
So what do you think of the new UK charts this week then? I'm very happy to see Little Mix get a 3rd week at #1! Oh are you still going to be posting any throwbacks today as well? :D
Well I've had an incredibly busy week, mainly working on my statistics assignment (which I find the most interesting part of Maths). I'm also pleased to say that SOTME currently has 41,388,699 views! ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

3

well, i don't have any throwbacks planned as of yet...but i'll try. i'm doing laundry right now and my dad will be stopping by later on. but i would like for us to discuss the uk chart stats of big selling artists over here.

so, what's your major? and do you guys have 4 yrs of university college like over here? and wow! 41mill. already! i haven't been keeping up on that...which artist were we discussing the last time? bsb right?

avatar

Piran

1

That's fine & I think we said that we were going to discuss JT for this week. Well I'm pleased that you'll be on here for a little while, but I'm probably going to be on here for another hour (I've just been very tired throughout this week & need to have a bit more rest throughout the day!) ;) LOL
I study Maths at University & we generally have 3 years here. You have the option do a placement year (where you're employed to work somewhere) & that would make it 4 years, which isn't compulsory but is strongly recommended. You can even get a doctorate if you wanted, but that would take 5+ years & is extremely hard work! :D
Yeah we were discussing BSB & NSYNC last time. Also regarding Little Mix, if SOTME is #1 next week, then it will pass 'Black Magic' as their longest UK #1 single so far. :)

J

Jstar

1

Hey Sunshine Gal. I saw your comment. Great to see you doing much better this week. I gave a brief review on the U.K singles chart this week on this article.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

ok let's take a look @ jt's stats....looks like jstar is on too....mind if i invite him to our chat? i was looking @ tlc's uk stats...so different from their u.s. feats!! i didn't see very many top 10's in the uk, whereas over here, they'd be in the top 10 for months!

well with jt: i've never heard of his single with nelly 'work it'...i don't think it was released over here. and 'sexyback' spent only 1 wk @ #1?? 'not a bad thing' peaked @ #21??

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

keep in mind, i'm even more exhausted than last week :D but yeah, now i'm able and more confident to walk more on my own, but i still have a limp. wanna join me and piran's chat? did you know jt's 'sexyback' only spent 1 wk @ #1 in the uk? it not only spent 6 wks @ #1 (or maybe 7) but i saw it in the top 10 for many wks.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Stitches, This Girl, Cake By The Ocean, Girls Like, Adventure of a Lifetime, You Don't Know Love, Can't Stop the Feeling, I Took a Pill in Ibiza, Middle and Tears.

I may have missed a few but I'm glad you asked for my favourites instead of my least favourites as if it was the latter, it would be a lot harder.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah of course you can invite Jstar to our chat! ;)
Well regarding JT, I found 18 Top 10 singles for him in the UK, including the 4 #1s: 'SexyBack', 'Give It', '4 Minutes' & 'Mirrors'. However he has had 7 songs peak at #2! :O
As for albums, all except '20/20 Experience - Part 2' have gone to #1. :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

3

but sexyback spent only 1 wk @ #1?? over here, he was #1 for about 6-7 wks, jumped from 35-1 and then 'my love' would be climbing up the charts and be in the top 10 simultaneously with 'sexyback'. also, very interesting his justified album went to #1 there, here it peaked somewhere in the top 5, if memory serves me right. and it spent 7 wks @ #1!! did i read that right? but the futuresex one only spent 1 wk @ #1?? that's one of my top 10 fave albums of all time!

avatar

Piran

0

Good choices! Mine are: 'Closer', 'Can't Stop The Feeling', 'Fast Car', 'Faded', 'Perfect Strangers', 'I Took A Pill In Ibiza', 'New Romantics' (because I'm a huge Taylor Swift fan!), 'Lush Life', 'Panda' (I don't know why I like this, but I somehow do) & 'Don't Let Me Down'. :)

J

Jstar

1

I am out right now. I am just replying to you on my phone. So I can't talk really any much right now. But I hope you and Piran have a good time. Maybe if you are on later I will talk some more. But if not take care and I'm glad you are getting better. But definitely get some rest also lol.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Oh, I noticed you included two songs by Jonas Blue, I had a one song per artist rule but had I not, I would have replaced either Tears or Middle with Hymn For The Weekend. Out of your list, the only ones I don't like are Panda (self-explanatory), Don't Let Me Down (hook sounds like trash) and Faded. That last one is so bland, generic and overrated IMO. Glad 7 Years isn't on your list, I thought it would be though

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

oh yeah...i can't believe just walking around my apt wears me out more than 1 day of running around doing errands LOL! and my bruises are healing up...my left big toe looks much better than a week ago. but the dr. told me my knee needs a good 4 wk timespan to really heal up. but i'm making great and fast progress. alright young man, i'll talk to you later...take care!! and don't forget about our rematch ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah 'Justified' spent 7 weeks at #1 on our albums chart, but it had a very weird chart run, as it was moving up & down the Top 10 all of the time. This is how it charted up until it's last week atop the album charts: 6-22-39-52-59-60-56-53-26-8-2-1-1-2-2-1-3-6-7-10-14-12-7-3-2-1-2-1-1-1. Every time you thought it was dropping down the charts, it just came back & returned to #1 all those times! ;)
'FutureSex/LoveSounds' debuted at #1 on the 09/23/2006 dated charts, but that was indeed it's only week at #1. However, the '20/20 Experience' got it's first 3 weeks at #1.
I thought 'SexyBack' would've got longer than 1 week at #1 as well, but JT has peaked at #2 with 4 different songs before he finally had singles chart .

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

!! you did all that for me? :)))!! so it looks like the album entered the top 10, had a slight dip and then kept falling, but became a hit and just kept dipping.

here in the states on 11/23/2002, he debuted @ #2 behind eminem's 8 mile soundtrack. em's big smash 'lose yourself' would be locked @ #1 for about 10 wks (missy elliot was famously @ #2 the whole time with 'work it').

that's crazy about 'sexyback'...it was a big hit on the hot 100 over here! wanna take a look @ tlc and destiny's child? oh jstar had to leave, so it's just you and me ;)

avatar

Piran

0

Jonas Blue & The Chainsmokers have been my two favourite breakthrough acts of 2016 so far. You might've already worked this out, but I'm a massive fan of dance music! :)
Well if I had the rule of one song per artist, I'd swap 'Don't Let Me Down' & 'Perfect Strangers' for 'Too Good' & 'When We Were Young'.
There isn't a song that I really dislike from your list, but I've just never really cared for 'Stitches' or 'Middle'.
I don't hate '7 Years', but it's nothing great at all. It got far too much radio support & I was just bored of it after 5 weeks at #1.

avatar

Piran

1

Haha yeah I did! ;)
Well regarding 'Work It', it ties for the longest time spent at #2 on the Hot 100, without hitting #1. This happened for 10 weeks & 'Waiting For A Girl Like You' is the other song ever to do this.
Yeah of course we can look at TLC & Destiny's Child on the UK charts if you want. I'm probably going to be on here for another 30-45 minutes though.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

ok, i gotta finish up my laundry and grab breakfast...that's actually perfect for me too.

well, i certainly remember her and em locked @ the top 2 spots (much like tay-tay and meghan a couple yrs back) 'work it' was a big radio hit from what i remember! but so was em'...i went to see 8 mile and had that soundtrack. he may still hold the longest run @ #1 for a rap artist...we'll have to double check on that.

well, i'm looking @ destiny's child's uk stats....'independant woman' only spent 1 wk @ #1? it was locked for 11 straight wks over here! i tracked each week :) there's some destiny's songs i've never heard of 'with me' and 'get on the bus'...don't know if those songs were on the hot 100...i clearly can't recall them. but 12 top 10's is pretty good...i don't know if they have that much over here.

oh i saw robbie williams' pic! :D i think he may have been on trl or vh1 over here, but it was very brief. i didn't know who he was @ the time.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

I was onto dance music until this year, it became terrible. Weak drops, overuse of tropical house and these stupid remixes on pop radio, it's like they have to butcher any song that uses proper instruments. Also, the likes of David Guetta and Calvin Harris are selling out their EDM sound and making complete mainstream stuff. There's a reason why I'm listening to rock quite a bit these days, the likes of Muse and Red Hot Chili Peppers are far better than the Chainsmokers or all these random same sounding house "DJs".

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Anyway, this is the last you'll hear of me for now, I've been forced to comment through my phone and it takes forever.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah I tried commenting through my phone before & I completely agree!
Nice chatting to you Synthesiza & have a great evening. :)

avatar

Piran

1

Well Eminem's Lose Yourself' ties Wiz Khalifa & Charlie Puth's 'See You Again' as the longest Hot 100 #1 for a rap song, as both were atop the chart for 12 weeks each! :)
I guess Destiny's Child had 13 Top 10 hits in the UK if you count the remix of 'Girl', called 'Girl Is Mine', which peaked at #5 last year. I believe their only other #1 in my country was 'Survivor' though (my favourite song by them, but 'Say My Name' is 2nd). :D
'With Me' & 'Get On The Bus' went Top 20 in the UK, but I don't think either of them charted on the Hot 100 at all. I counted 10 Top 10s for Destiny's Child in the US though. ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

em was #1 for 12 wks!!?? wow! i recall @ the time bb noting he held the record for longest #1 for a rap artist. that was cool seeing him lock the #1 spot for so long.

in fact, i'm listening to missy elliot's 'work it'...haha!! i remember thinking it sounded so good on the radio!

oh 1 artist we need to check out is usher!! which one do you wanna do next, tlc or usher? and yeah, my dad's coming by soon...he helped clean my apt yesterday :)))! i was conked out LOL!

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah 'Lose Yourself' was #1 for 12 weeks, but I'm referring to the Hot 100 when I say that & not the UK Official Charts. :)
Well we can take a quick look at Usher's chart performance in the UK now if you want to.
So he had 4 UK #1 singles: 'You Make Me Wanna...' (1 week), 'Yeah' (2 weeks), 'Burn' (2 weeks) & 'OMG' (1 week). Including those, he's had a total of 19 Top 10 hits over here. :D
All of his studio albums except 'My Way' have reached the Top 10, but: '8701', 'Confessions' & 'Here I Stand' were all #1s. ;)

Agree about Don`t Wanna Know. I think sigmas new track will debut between 20-30. Yea the craig david skrillex mashup was epic

Piran

1

I'm pleased to hear that you've had a nice week! :)
Yeah I see Sigma debuting in the 20-30 region as well. The other songs that I think will enter the Top 40 next week are definitely 'Juju On Dat Beat' & potentially 'Sneakin'. Neither of these are good in my opinion though. :/
However I'm currently listening to 'By Your Side' & it is growing on me a lot with every listen. Is this your favourite of the 3 Jonas Blue hits then? ;)

oh yeah i knew you meant the hot 100, i just forgot it was that length, considering that was 14 yrs ago LOL! i knew he was #1 for a long time, i totally forgot about 12 wks though. i believe @ the time, he got a special bb award and a guinness world record for longest run @ #1 on the hot 100 for a rap artist.

well, with usher, i'm surprised his #1's from his confessions album was only #1 for 1 week. over here, 'yeah' was #1 for about 11 wks or so...i constantly saw him in the top 10 all thruout that year. he'd have 2, i think even 3 top 10's in the same week. if i recall correctly, he was the #1 hot 100 artist of the year for 2004. some of his early hits on the uk stats i'm not too familiar with though.

and very interesting his confessions album spent only 1 wk @ #1. i just checked on wiki and that album was the 200's #1 album of the year. it went diamond that year :). it was lots of fun seeing him doing so well that year :)

Yeah I think I told you about how short UK #1s are compared to those on the Billboard charts, hence why we had 24 #1 singles in 2015 in my country. :)
So of the following 10 #1 singles on the UK charts in 2016, how would you reorder & rate them:
1) Justin Bieber - Love Yourself
2) Shawn Mendes - Stitches
3) Zayn - Pillowtalk
4) Lukas Graham - 7 Years
5) Mike Posner - I Took A Pill In Ibiza [SeeB Remix]
6) Drake ft Wizkid & Kyla - One Dance
7) Major Lazer ft Justin Bieber & MO - Cold Water
8) The Chainsmokers ft Halsey - Closer
9) James Arthur - Say You Won't Let Go
10) Little Mix - Shout Out To My Ex
I know you probably won't have heard all of these though. I'll tell you what I think after your next reply.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

well, my fave would be little mix's one...not too much into 'love yourself' or 'pillowtalk'. and i don't know who james arthur is. oh i forgot to ask, is conor maynard still making music in the uk? (sorry to change the subject :D) he made some appearances on mtv over here, but i haven't seen him on the charts since.

oh i'm looking @ mariah's uk stats, and she's only had 2 #'1s??!! wow! cuz she has 18 over here. the bulk of her career was before the internet, so mostly radio airplay for the hot 100 back then. i had all her albums starting from her debut album back in 1990 :).

i see her 4th u.s. #1 'i don't wanna cry' wasn't released in the uk...her 1st uk #1 'without you'...i can't recall if that was released over here. that was from her music box album, her first u.s. diamond album :) and i see her #1 with our irish mates westlife...i'll have to check that one out. too bad it never got released over here.

Piran

Well my favourite is definitely 'Closer' by The Chainsmokers & Halsey. I always think of you when I hear that Tucson reference also it's already the longest Hot 100 #1 of 2016 & is only the 21st song ever to make it 11 or more weeks at #1 on the Hot 100. Little Mix's 'Shout Out To My Ex' is probably 2nd & 'I Took A Pill In Ibiza] by Mike Posner would be 3rd. 'Love Yourself' is alright, but I prefer 'Sorry' & WDYM for 2015 much more. 'Pillowtalk' & 'Stitches' tie for my least favourite. Regarding James Arthur, he won the 2012 series of the UK X Factor (the year after our Little Mix mates did), but 'Say You Won't Let Go' is actually his first ever appearance on the Hot 100. :)
I'm pleased you know about Conor Maynard though! He released an album this year called 'Covers', but it did really bad as it only peaked at #180. His previous album called 'Contrast' went to #1 over here back in 2012 & even reached the Top 40 of the BB200. As for his singles, he has 5 Top 10 hits in the UK, but he's never been on the Hot 100 before; 'Vegas Girl' (#1 Bubbling Under) & 'Turn Around' (#10 Bubbling Under). The latter features Ne-Yo in it. :D
Yeah I can't believe Mariah only has 2 UK #1 singles here, but she does have a total of 24 Top 10 hits. She also only has 2 #1 albums, which were 'Music Box' & 'Daydream'.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

hahaa!! well, we got it goin' on here in tucson ;) like my rap? what's the longest #1 in the uk? yeah connor gave some interviews on mtv over here and there were some nice articles introducing him to the u.s. public. i thought he was pretty good...but i don't think he was able to make a splash here. see how hard it is for international artists, or anyone, to make it over here? his debut album peaked @ #34 here...but it looks like he was only able to crack the bubbling under hot 100 chart (he did better on the bb pop charts). i just hadn't seen him on the charts since and i just saw his pic on the uk page :D

oh 'without you' peaked @ #3 here...so much for my chart expertise :D. the singles i recall tracking from that album is def. 'dreamlover' and 'hero'. but again, this is 22 yrs ago :D it seemed like each yr in the 90s, she always had a big hit...it'd be rare not to see her in the top 10. i'm surprised 'my all' peaked @ #98 over there, it went to #1 over here.

avatar

Piran

Well in terms of consecutive reigns atop the Official Charts:
#1: Bryan Adams - Everything I Do [I Do It For You] (16 weeks, 1991)
#2 (tie): Wet Wet Wet - Love Is All Around (15 weeks, 1994)
#2 (tie): Drake ft Wizkid & Kyla - One Dance (15 weeks, 2016)
#4: Slim Whitman - Rose Marie (11 weeks, 1955)
#5 (tie): Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You (10 weeks, 1992)
#5 (tie): David Whitfield - Cara Mia (10 weeks, 1954)
#5 (tie): Rihanna ft Jay-Z - Umbrella (10 weeks, 2007)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

who the is slim whitman? ;D and david whitfield...oh they're from the 50's? and of course you know how much i know about wet wet wet LOL!

listen mate, i'm gonna have to let you go for now, i have a few things to get done before my dad stops by. oh don't let me forget, my 25th anniversary of being a hot 100 addict is coming up in the 1st week of this dec. ;). the week mj's 'black or white' made it's first week @ #1 is when i became a hot 100 addict :D. i can't believe it! i should be more healthier by then and will be able to chat more with everyone.

so, 'i will always love you' was #1 for 10 wks!! i had no idea!! what was the final sales tally for the bodyguard soundtrack? i knew that song was a huge worldwide hit, but no internet in 1992 :D. but i def. remember tracking it on the hot 100 back then...oh speaking of which, i finished the bobby brown memoir, very good book! i was reading it while i was resting, finished almost the whole book in 1 day!

and thanks for keeping me up to date about lm....so, they'll fall out of the hot 100 this mond.? well, they can always re-enter the chart @ a later time. you never know, their song may be even bigger @ a later time...simon should consider doing a remix to it like tay-tay did with 'bad blood'. ;). maybe u.s. radio will like it more. ok, mate, i'll go ahead and let you go for now...i'll try to be on later or 2mor. tell all our bb mates i said hi and when i have more energy :D i promise i'll be back to my chatful self...take care!

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

oh and mate, i'm checking the worldwide stats for 'shout'....looks to be a moderate hit across the world...i say do a remix to it ;). if the remix is done right and good and hot! :D i have a feeling it'll be an even bigger hit, esp. over here :)

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah as well as SOTME going #1 in the UK (including Scotland), it's also reached #1 in Ireland, Top 10 in: Australia, New Zealand & South Africa & Top 40 in most European countries & Canada. Yeah I think a: remix, discount, guest feature by another singer or rapper, or a live performance in the US could certainly give it a boost on the Hot 100. Are you going to be on any of the Billboard articles over the couple of days, or will you stay here on the Official Charts page? :)

R

riley

1

I think it might be. Love it.

avatar

Piran

0

Do you think Little Mix can stay at #1 next week then, or will Clean Bandit go atop the Official Chart instead? :)

R

riley

1

Do you know what. I actually think they can do it, i think Clean Bandit can get to number 1 next week. You?

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah I'm starting to think that they will as well, but it'll definitely be close between Clean Bandit & Little Mix. I'd be happy either way though. :D
So if 'Rockabye' does go to #1 next Friday, how many weeks do you see it there for?

R

riley

1

I think if it does get to number 1 it will stay there for around 2 or 3 weeks. Yourself?

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah I agree. Interestingly we still haven't seen any song this year make a return to #1.
Oh I might have already asked you this before, but what's your favourite song of 2016 that peaked at #2? Mine is 'Can't Stop The Feeling'. :)

R

riley

1

I thought it was going to be say you wont let go which would make a return to number 1 but that looks very unlikely as it is rapidly falling in sales, What do you mean? was the last song to make a return to number 1, it did twice last year! My favorite song that peaked at 2 this year would be either CSTF, TIWYCF, DLMD, This Girl or any of the Jonas blue songs. So basically every song that Drake held off number 1, LOL.

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah SYWLG probably won't go back to #1 now, even with an iTunes discount.
I thought 'Love Yourself' was the last song to return to #1. It would lead for 3 weeks last December, get dethroned by the NHS Choir & go back to #1 for another 3 weeks on New Year's Day 2016.
I love pretty much every one of those #2 hits that you mentioned though. :)
Speaking of JB, what is your favourite song by him then? Mine is 'What Do You Mean?'.

R

riley

1

Oh yea, i forgot about love yourself going back to number 1. My bad.
What do you mean? is for sure my favorite beiber track lone but overall its Cold Water.
I also forgot WFH by Fifth Harmony as a number 2 i loved and Wok by Rihanna

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah I completely with you regarding the JB songs. I still feel a bit sorry for DJ Snake considering he spent 6 weeks at #2 with 'Let Me Love You' earlier this year & also spent all that time blocked at #2 in 2015 with 'Lean On'.
'Work From Home' wasn't bad, but there are much better tracks from their '7/27' album, though I didn't really like 'Work' if I'm honest. :/
So do you think 'Glory Days' is going to become Little Mix's first UK #1 album later this month then? I have a feeling that it will, but it'll be close between that & Bruno Mars' '24k Magic'.

R

riley

1

I completely forgot about LMLY. that is probably my favorite number 2 single of 2016. Agree though, DJ Snake deserved a week or so at number 1. But He had been denied by 2 of the biggest songs of 2016 along with 2016 with Lean On. I agree. That`s my Girl and write on me i really liked from 7/27.
I do think Little Mix will get to number 1 with there new album. Hopefully they do!

avatar

Piran

0

Haha coincidentally 'Write On Me' & 'That's My Girl' are my Top 2 favourite songs from '7/27' as well! I definitely loved Fifth Harmony's new album much more than 'Reflection'. :)
Considering you really like 'Rockabye' so much, is that your favourite Clean Bandit song?

R

riley

1

Nah, Tears is my favorite by Clean Bandit, you?

Btw, i know there is still a month to go, but what do you think is going to be the top 5 come the end of the year (chart of 2016)

avatar

Piran

0

'Extraordinary' & 'Real Love' are my favourite Clean Bandit songs, but 'Tears' is a great choice. :)
Well the last update for the 2016 Year-End chart was published on 4th October & this was the Top 5:
#1: Drake ft Wizkid & Kyla - One Dance
#2: Lukas Graham - 7 Years
#3: Mike Posner - I Took A Pill In Ibiza [SeeB Remix]
#4: Sia ft Sean Paul - Cheap Thrills
#5: Calvin Harris ft Rihanna - This Is What You Came For
I don't think this will change by the end of the year, but 'Cold Water' is a potential entry. What do you think?

R

riley

1

I think their will be some changes to that top 5 come th end of the year
#1: Drake ft Wizkid & Kyla - One Dance
#2: Sia ft Sean Paul - Cheap Thrills
#3: Lukas Graham - 7 Years
#4: Calvin Harris ft Rihanna - This Is What You Came For
#5: Mike Posner - I Took A Pill In Ibiza [SeeB Remix]

I think Sia will be so high because it has been 2x platinum for awhile now and it is STILL in the top 40. Lukas Graham may finish above it but i think Mike Posner will definitely be 5th because TIWYCF is so far ahead in the chart atm.
I think there is more of a chance of Closer breaking into the top 5 then cold water tbh. Just because it is still so high up in the chart atm.
CSTF is the only other song i think has a chnace of going into that top 5. It is almost x2 platinum and is still around the top 20 in sales

avatar

Piran

1

Oh yeah I forgot about CSTF & it's longevity, but I just think that songs like: '7 Years', 'Cheap Thrills' & ITAPII are at an advantage because they spent a bit more time in the charts than TIWYCF. 'Closer' might have a chance at the Top 5, but I think it was released too late in 2016 to enter the Top 5. 'Dancing On My Own' is the only other song that has any possibility of entering this region, though I just can't see it happening myself.
I still see '7 Years' becoming the best selling song of 2016 & 'One Dance' will easily get the most streamed of the year. :)

R

riley

1

I agree that the top 5 will stay the same. But i think TIWYCF will finish above ITAPII just because it has been in the chart for so long and will stay in the top 40 for a few more weeks at least.

One more quick question, what are your favourite songs that failed to hit the top 40?
My top 3 are easily IKWYDLS, by Shawn Mendes, easily my favorite song by him, Say it by Flume who has not got any deserved praise in the UK i think, and Ride by 21 pilots. I know that song was HUGE in America but interestingly never made it here in the UK.

avatar

Piran

2

Well my favourite songs that haven't reached the Top 40 in 2016 so far are: 'Capsize', 'All Night', 'Million Reasons', 'Please Don't Go', 'Never Be Like You' & 'All I Ask'. If we included songs that didn't even make the Top 100, I would add lots of country songs that appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.

R

riley

1

Have not heard some off them songs haha. but i LOVE Never Be Like You, i think Flume is such an underrated artist and hopefully gets the recognition he is getting in Australia over here soon.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah Flume has been one of my favourite producers of 2016 so far. :)
So do you regulary check the Hot 100 & other US Billboard charts then?

R

riley

1

I check the Hot 100 every week and the ARIA charts also. Sometimes European charts when i feel like it.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah I do exactly the same as well. What I find very interesting is why 'Cheap Thrills' & 'Cheerleader' for example became huge hits in the US months after they've peaked elsewhere in the world. :)
Speaking of the Hot 100, where do you see 'Juju On Dat Beat' peaking in the UK charts then? I think it'll probably perform similar to how 'Watch Me [Whip/Nae Nae]' did.

R

riley

1

I don`t really comment on the Hot 100 as there are so many comments on there normally. I Agree, another song i noticed was Never Forget You. One of my favorite songs of all time peaked at 13 months after it came out. It is like I hate U i love u in the US right now.
I`m not sure Juja on dat beat will go as high because it is doing awful in sales right now but it will hit the top 40 for sure.
Anyway, im logging of for the night, need to sleep as im exhausted haha. Will catch yopu for the chart update tomorrow. Have a good night :)

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah there are usually 800+ comments on each Hot 100 article, so much busier than the Official Charts discussion forum! ;) LOL
I'll try to be on for the UK chart update tomorrow, but Mondays are my busiest days at University. Have a good night Riley!

avatar

Techfan

2

Hey Piran, I've tracked you down via Disqus. Seems the Daylight Savings Time has delayed the BB 200 article. I do hope they post it soon so we can chat there!

avatar

Piran

2

Hey Techfan! I hope you've had a good week. :)
Yeah I knew about the clocks going back by one hour in the US last night, but we can chat here until the BB200 article posts. Hopefully it'll happen soon as it's already nearly 11:30pm here & I've got a very busy day tomorrow. -_-
Speaking of the BB200, I think it should be close between Kenny Chesney & Avenged Sevenfold for #1 this week if I remember correctly. Also considering that you're on the Official Charts article right now, what do you think of the charts in my country at the moment then? :D

avatar

Techfan

2

Yeah, I think last year's DST had the same issue. Just looking at Headline Planet, they're starting to post some of the genre radio article songs that usually precede the BB 200 article. Regarding what HDD ended up predicting, it had Kenny Chesney at #1, #2 Jeezy, #3 Meek Mill, #4 7 Avengefold and #5 Lady Gaga. I'd think they'd post the article, hopefully within the next two hours. Next week, it appears that Bon Jovi will be #1 thanks to a ticket redemption bundle, Chainsmokers #2 mostly due to SEAs and Alicia Keys #3. Also, I should mention that Black Beatles (!) is #1 in iTunes and 24k Magic #2. While Alicia Keys' album is #1 in iTunes, the Trolls OST is #2.

Regrding UK Singles chart, I think the Top 5 was getting a bit stagnant. Do you like the new Clean Bandit song? I checked Jillboard 100's Top 40 for the UK and on average its better than the Hot 100 for the US for last week. Although how Fake Love rose as much as it did in the UK is beside me. And Mr. Brightside lives on ...

avatar

Piran

1

Also Billboard have already posted the '13 Things To Know About The Charts...' article, so that's a good sign that the BB200 article is coming soon. I don't expect it to be too busy tonight though, but I really hope that 'Lady Wood' by Tove Lo can enter the Top 10. Well I'm very pleased for The Chainsmokers as I love every song of theirs except '#selfie'. :)
Yeah unfortunately 'Black Beatles' looks likely to be in the Hot 100's Top 10 tomorrow. I'm interested to see what effect the CMAs will have on the charts for Tuesday & where Little Big Town's 'Better Man' will debut on the Hot 100 (I was always going to love this song, considering Taylor Swift wrote it!). :D
I really like Clean Bandit's 'Rockabye' & it currently has a slight lead on iTunes in my country, so I'm hoping that it can go to #1 in the UK next week & that it will eventually debut on the Hot 100. I was also very surprised to see Drake's 'Fake Love' in the Top 10 over here, but it's because of the huge streaming, especially from Spotify. I was telling you a few weeks ago about how the formula here is '1 sale = 100 streams', hence why 'One Dance' actually was able to spend 15 weeks at #1 in the UK! :O
I like 'Mr Brightside', but I actually hope it doesn't beat 'Chasing Cars' record for most weeks in the Top 100, as the latter is one of my favourite songs of the 21st century so far.

avatar

Techfan

1

On the UK Albums, I'm not quite familiar with James Arthur's music but I'm glad he got #1. Also, I see Madness (they're still around? ;D) got #5. I see a new LeAnn Rime album at #15 that I wasn't aware was supposed to be released. According to Wikipedia, for some reason it won't be released in the US until February next year. And I see The Ultimate Collection by Black Sabbath at #20. It seems that Robbie Williams will be a lock for #1 next week.

avatar

Techfan

1

The article you mentioned has been posted since earlier today ... Regarding Tove Lo's album, HDD has it at #11, but they might be wrong and it might sneak in at #10 if it surpassed Hamilton.

Both the Hot 100 and BB 200 will be affected by the CMAs, although the Hot 100 to a lesser extent since the increases in digital song sales don't have as large an impact in terms of positions as the increased album sales have in the BB 200.

In iTunes singles sales, I see that Blue Ain't Your Color and Better Man have managed to remain in the Top 10 at #4 and #5. In album, Kenny Chesney's at #4 and Chris Stapleton at #12. Most of the initial boost of the CMAs has already subsided.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah I'm very happy that 'Back From The Edge' became James Arthur's first UK #1 album. The lead single from it, 'Say You Won't Let Go' even debuted on the Hot 100 last week at #100, but it's already gone to #1 in: Sweden, Ireland, Australia & New Zealand, as well as here in the UK. I would definitely recommend it if you've not listened to it already. :)
Well I've looked back through Madness' discography & their debut album was released 37 years ago! They seem to be one-hit wonders in the US though, as 'Our House' peaked at #7 in 1982.
Robbie Williams seems to be better at selling albums than he is singles as the moment, but it'll definitely be good seeing him get the #1 album over here next week.
Oh considering the main headline on Billboard's home page is about the MTV EMAs (great show by the way), is there any chance that these awards could have any effect on the Hot 100 for next week?

avatar

Piran

1

So are you a fan of country music then & if so, who are your favourite artists from this genre? :)
I'm sure you already know that I loved Taylor Swift's country music, but since she's released pop albums, my favourite country artists are: Carrie Underwood, Florida Georgia Line & Lady Antebellum. :D
Of course we all know that Joseph's choice would be Thomas Rhett! (not...) ;) LOL

avatar

Techfan

1

Yeah, James Arthur, from that song, looks to be very talented. I remember Our House from way back then, although it was actually 1983 (yes, I remember most hits from that year which happened to be a very good one due to several MJ hits from Thriller making the Year-End Hot 100 :D), definitely a very unique song.

Robbie Williams is almost unknown in the US, only charting in the Hot 100 with Millennium and Angels, but seems to be very popular in many other countries and unparalleled in the UK. Interestingly, I knew he was somewhat eccentric, but didn't know he had a thing for UFOs, which I just learned from Wikipedia.

avatar

Techfan

1

The MTV EMAs I don't expect to have any significant effect on the Hot 100. I don't think they even televised it in the US. If they do, probably not many people bother to see it. Please given it's MTV related, its impact is already lessened just by that fact.

avatar

Piran

1

I didn't think they would to be honest, considering they're a European event. I still look forward to AMAs though, especially Bruno Mars & Lady Gaga. Which performances are you most excited for then? :)

avatar

Piran

1

I'm pleased that you like 'Say You Won't Let Go'. Yeah 1983 was definitely a great year for music & the fact that 'Thriller' is the highest certified album ever in the US (32x platinum! :O ), shows how iconic & legendary MJ has been.
Yeah Robbie Williams has had 7 UK #1 singles & 11 UK #1 albums in his solo career. He was even a member of Take That at times (one of the biggest boybands of all-time over here), yet Take That only made the Hot 100's Top 10 once with 'Back For Good'. I'm surprised Robbie wasn't more successful in the US though.
Oh Sunshine Gal asked me to keep you updated on her progress: she's continuing to make a quick recovery, but she'll continue to post on Official Charts until she feels slightly better, then she'll be back doing regular posts on Billboard. :)

avatar

Techfan

1

On average, I wouldn't say I'm a fan of the genre and don't get to know about the country songs unless they chart in the Hot 100. I did like TS's country hits, but probably like songs of the genre on a song by song basis. You probably have heard LoCash's I Love Somebody? Hate it. Auto-tune meets bro-country seems to be a bad combination. Among the current ones, I do like Setting the World on Fire, Blue Ain't Your Color, May We All, Middle of a Memory, A Little More Summertime, 80s Mercedes and How I'll Always Be based on the Jillboard 101 snippets.

avatar

Techfan

1

Of course, Bruno. Then Green Day, The Weeknd and twenty one pilots. I'm of course happy to see Arianna's performing, although Nicki's presence gives me a pause.

avatar

Piran

1

Well 'Love Story' is one of my all-time favourite songs & easily the best one that Taylor Swift's released in my opinion. What is your favourite song by her then? :)
I was actually listening to 'I Know Somebody' earlier & I actually quite like it. I was also listening to 'Setting The World On Fire' today as well (I always go to Jillboard101 or YouTube for country hits, as they never get played on the radio over here). My other favourite country songs of 2016 are probably: 'H.O.L.Y', 'Peter Pan', 'I Met A Girl', 'Die A Happy Man', '80s Mercedes', 'Sleep Without You' & 'Forever Country'.
Speaking of Jillboard101, I actually find the Top 25 Bubbling Under Songs better than the Top 25 of the Hot 100 right now.

avatar

Techfan

1

Tell Sunshine Gal that congrats that her NFL team won this time, but when they visit mine, they won't be so lucky! ;D Send her my best regards, otherwise.

Regarding football, I guess Pep got his revenge on Barca in Manchester in the UCL this week. Barca edged Sevilla today (I only saw the Sevilla goal and then feel asleep!) and Messi already has 469 official goals with them.

avatar

Piran

-1

Yeah I'm definitely pleased to see that The Weeknd will be performing. Considering his album is being released on the following Friday, I think that will be 'Starboy's best chance of getting to #1 on the Hot 100.
I love 'Closer' so it'll be awesome watching The Chainsmokers & Halsey perform, but I know a lot of people hated their VMA performance of it. I thought I would be tired of the song by now, but it's still probably going to be #1 on my personal best list for 2016. :)

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah of course I will! She's also very pleased that her family's MLB teams, the Chicago Cubs, finally won a World Series for the first time in 108 years! :)
Regarding the soccer, it's also great to see Liverpool (my favourite team) are currently atop the EPL. I watched their game against Crystal Palace last Saturday & was one of my favourite matches of the season so far.

avatar

Techfan

1

Love Story is one of my favorites as well as well as Our Song. I also like Two is Better Than One and Highway Don't Care where she was featured. From 1989, Blank Space is definitely my favorite.

Since you like I Know Somebody, one song I remember you said you dislike but I actually liked was Rock On. I Met a Girl was pretty good as well (now that really sounds like a real country song). Like Die a Happy Man? Joseph will be thrilled ... I agree it does sound like a Ed Sheeran song. I also like the Sam Hunt's songs, although I haven't heard Make You Miss Me, so I'm not decided on it. Regarding Sleep Without You, I probably like Wanna Be That Song better.

I just heard the Bubbling Hot 100 songs and it's quite a mixed bag. The bad are all those reggaeton songs (Shaky Shaky I detest! :p), although the worse of the bunch is the annoying Taylor Girlz song, which makes Juju likable by comparison. Most of the rap/hip-hop songs are pretty bad as well, although the Lil Uzi Vert song sounds a bit less worse than those 2 he has in the Hot 100. Kevin Gates' song is probably the best of that bunch. Among the best are all the country songs, Fifth Harmony, Bastille and Anne-Marie. It seems that Star of the Show should also make the Hot 100 this week to Joseph's dismay ... ;)

We'll see if the week Bruno's album is released that provides 24k Magic with an additional boost to reach either #1 or #2, although with the Chainsmokers & Halsey performing, I'd bet against the former. The week The Weeknd's album is released Starboy could have a chance to reach #1.

The BB 200 article hasn't been posted ... which means few people will be around to comment, I'd think.

Yeah, I thought she'd be thrilled. In many case, the MLB post-season was pretty dramatic, at least, what I was able to watch.

Regarding the EPL, I'm also thrilled they are doing well. They're my favorite team, Manchester City's second and Chelsea third. Manchester United I've always hated, especially now that they're managed by Mourinho. Unfortunately, I don't haven't gotten EPL on TV but I can always stream them.

Well from '1989', my favourite are: 'New Romantics', 'Style' & 'Welcome To New York' (Inevio absolutely loves the former as well). 'Blank Space' was definitely good though & my other favourite Taylor Swift songs overall are: '22', 'Everything Has Changed' & 'Should've Said No'. :)
'Rock On' grew on me slightly, as did 'Wanna Be That Song', but I've still never cared for either to be honest.
As for the Bubbling Under songs chart, I agree that 'Steal Her Man' by Taylor Girlz is easily the worst, especially the vocals that sound like a little girl about to have a tantrum. It even makes 'Broccoli' sound good in my opinion & you know how much I hate that! :P LOL
After hearing 'Money Longer' & 'You Was Right', I think we could do without any more Lil Uzi Vert songs in the Hot 100 for now. My favourite songs from the Bubbling Under Top 25 this week are: 'That's My Girl', 'The Ocean', 'Perfect Strangers', 'Good Grief', 'Better Man', 'Shaky Shaky' (sorry, but it sounds catchy & fun), 'Alarm' & 'Star Of The Show'. :D

Yeah it's just gone 2am in the UK now, but I'll probably stay on until 4am at the latest. That might sound ridiculously late, but my first lecture is at 12pm, so I don't have to worry about not getting enough sleep! ;) LOL
Well I think Bruno & The Weeknd should debut at #1 on the BB200 with their albums, I see the latter going atop the Hot 100 with 'Starboy' for some time. '24k Magic' is too weak on streaming to have a chance at #1 on the Hot 100 for now. :/
Considering 'Black Beatles' is currently leading on both Spotify & iTunes, I think if it gets enough radio support to add to it's sales & streaming momentum, then it could be another 'Panda' where we have an unexpected #1 hit. -_-

Regarding Taylor, from 1989 I also loved Style and Wildest Dreams. From her previous material, Today Was a Fairytale and Back to December. 22 and Shake It Off would be my guilty pleasures.

The Ocean is very unoriginal. It sound too much like Capsize and Lean On. I'm kind of tired of that sound already ... :p

Perfect Strangers, even though it's EDM, does have a different, nice sound. I do want Good Grief to enter the Hot 100 since Bastille does appear to have a very consistent and unique sound as well. Among all reggaeton acts, Daddy Yankee I hate the most. He's kind of the Future of the genre, if you get my drift ... :P

Regarding That's My Girl, I find it surprised it made the Official Charts Singles chart before the Hot 100. Oh, let's not forget that song ft. Drake, which hopefully doesn't make it to the Hot 100 and pad his song total.

Yeah usually US shows like the Grammys or VMAs are always broadcast a day later in the UK, so you know the results before it is even televised over here. That's why I always stream shows live when I watch them from the US.
Regarding the EPL, I'm pleased to see that Southampton are doing quite well (currently 10th according to the tables), because that's where my older brother goes to University. I don't know if you watch any rugby, but I'm going to see England vs Italy in the Six Nations Championship live next February. :)

Well, there's still a couple of wait for you then. It'd be 11 PM ET by then. Lucky you have late classes. I remember that the latest I had classes when I was at the University for my Bachelor's degree was usually 10 AM.

I'm not so sure about Bruno's album since Metallica's releasing their album that week as well and will probably outsell it given the pent up demand for their music.

Black Beatles is currently only #99 in radio, so it'd depend a lot on those two components to climb while radio picks up. In another interesting twist in radio charts according to kworb, I Don't Wanna Know could surpass Side To Side at some point during the week.

'Wildest Dreams' is awesome as well, especially the video. 'Shake It Off' is a really fun & catchy song, but Taylor attempting to rap ruined it for me a bit unfortunately.
'The Ocean' & 'Perfect Strangers' both have a tropical vibe to them, as well as EDM. I guess I like both as dance is my favourite genre of music. :)
Well it seems like Drake only needs 3 more Hot 100 hits to match Lil Wayne's record, which I wouldn't mind happening to be honest as I prefer the former. Regarding Future, it's very strange that I only find him satisfactory, but I actually really like Desiigner.

Haha it's funny to think that I would usually be signing off now! Well I have 12pm starts on Monday & Tuesday (but finish just before the Hot 100 article posts on Mondays), 9am starts on Wednesday & Thursday, while I have Fridays off. 15 hours per week for lectures might not sound like much, but we have that same amount of time outside of lectures to do assignments.
Oh regarding the BB200 article, I can't understand why the clocks changing would have any effect on the time that it should post.

avatar

Techfan

Rugby and Cricket which I know are very popular in the UK and former colonies are two sports I don't have a clue about. I do remember there were quite a few girls from my dorm who liked to play rugby (I remember them coming back all muddy and such) and several people got together to pay $500 to be able to see the Cricket matches. The latter stayed up all night to watch them. The only time I remember I stayed up for quite a few hours for an international tournament was the Japan Korea 2002 World Cup. So which are the other four teams in the rugby Championship you're mentioning? :D

avatar

Techfan

1

I see. I probably had similar 15-20 hours of classes per week, although since I had to work, I had to do my assignments late.

Regarding the BB 200 article, I understand that when the time goes forward an hour in the Spring that might be a problem, but in the Fall going back one hour should pose less of than problem and more of a benefit. But I guess that's probably my opinion.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah rugby is actually quite similar to football. Girls playing rugby used to be very unheard of, but it's becoming much more popular now.
The other four teams in the Six Nations are: Scotland, Wales, France & Ireland. :)

avatar

Piran

1

You had work at the same time that you were doing assignments? Wow that must have been difficult for you! :O
Well last Sunday, the UK clocks also went back by one hour, so I spent more time on the BB200 article that night as a result. Interestingly the Hot 100 is never posted late at all, unless it's a federal holiday & posts on a Tuesday instead.

avatar

Techfan

Yeah, it was tough. Basically as part of the Financial Aid package I was offered, I had to come up with a certain of money from work each semester, although the budget they based that on was not based on reality. I mean, I easily spent the whole books budget for one school year in one semester, since most Engineering books were pretty expensive, so I had to work extra to make up for that. I essentially worked about 20 hours per week. Probably the best jobs I took for studying was working as receptionist or security guard in the dorms which allowed me lots of spare time to do assignments. The most fun and best earning was doing catering, although that didn't allow much me time to study. The most flexible was working at the library, in the part they receive books and bound periodicals. I could always ask to reaccommodate around my schedule. I also worked a couple of holidays in the Admissions Office since they receive a lot of documents due to the application deadline for the university.

Yeah, the Hot 100 article should be easy for them since all the numbers have been crunched by then.

avatar

Piran

1

The library job sounds the most interesting in my opinion; my best friend actually did some library assistance at my school about 3 years ago & I would even help sometimes, but it was only voluntary work. I think Jstar works in a library as well actually. :D
I can imagine that the security guard or receptionist job could get a bit boring at times & the catering one would definitely not be for me as I am terrible at cooking! :P LOL
I just realised that after tomorrow, there will only be just 1 week left that counts towards the 2016 Year-End Hot 100. How do you feel about JB probably going to get #1 & #2 with 'Love Yourself' & 'Sorry' respectively then? :)

avatar

Techfan

One of the perks of working at the library in addition to be able to study was actually seeing the books and periodicals, including Billboard. In terms what I did, it wasn't to exciting. For new books, just putting a security sticker, pasting a return date paper, stamping a couple of places and typing and pasting the Dewey decimal number. For periodicals, additionally, checking no errors in the info pasted on the spine, checking that the issues were bound in the correct order and complete. Similar deal for the photocopied bound versions of really old books, except checking for no missing pages or things bound upside down.

The security/receptionist job wasn't too exciting especially when it involved graveyard shifts (I would take quite a few naps). The most interesting thing there would be seeing who people had to sign in from the outside.

The catering one was actually quite fun since you could be a waiter or my favorite was helping in the kitchen, since I didn't actually have to cook. The only thing I didn't care for was being the bartender, although he/she probably got the tips from drunkards for doing the least work. In addition to being able to take home leftover food, the big perk was the parties we would organize with my fellow student caterers. Probably the only events that allowed me to study a lot were all-day conferences since there were only few times that people needed to be catered to. The worst ones were weddings on-site, which usually involved up to 12 hour shifts.

I'm OK with those songs realizing that the chart year was relatively weak as a whole and this are among Justin Bieber's best songs in my opinion. It remains to be seen whether One Dance or Closer can manage to chart well enough to appear in the next All-Time Hot 100 chart that Billboard releases, which will probably be the 60th Anniversary one.

hey mate!! well, i'll prob. just stay here otherwise i'll be chatting all day with everyone on bb :D and i'll wait 'til i'm fully healthy for that....believe me, i always enjoy chatting with all our bb friends, but not right now :D.

oh some more progress!! i'm able to not need the crutch so much :D (like my new rap!) i still have a limp and walk slower, but even getting up from a chair isn't as tedious like it was almost 2 wks ago! *that's when i had my accident*. thank god for my family! my rent and bills are paid, so i can rest and relax all i want.

well, that's great for lm...but i think a good remix would get the u.s. radio stations to like it more. if your music is hot, u.s. radio will like it :). and i mean not just upbeat hot, if it's good, radio over here will like it. look @ 1D's 'story of my life' being in the top 20 for almost 6 mos...that was predominantly radio airplay. *lots of u.s. female djs really liked them!*

been watching lots of world series highlights, and i gotta say it's hard not to be a cubs fan after this :D i def. am a fan after all these years :D. deep chicago roots in my family...my uncle went to high school with peter cetera (lead singer of 70s band 'chicago' and was a solo artist in the 80s with big hits like 'glory of love'. but my bulls team has been on a losing streak :(. but it's the beginning of the season, so it's ok :D

mate, i got another pending alert! ok, i'll trim down my post and see if it'll post up...

listen mate, i'm gonna have to let you go for now, i have a few things to get done before my dad stops by. oh don't let me forget, my 25th anniversary of being a hot 100 addict is coming up in the 1st week of this dec. ;). the week mj's 'black or white' made it's first week @ #1 is when i became a hot 100 addict :D. i can't believe it! i should be more healthier by then and will be able to chat more with everyone.

so, 'i will always love you' was #1 for 10 wks!! i had no idea!! what was the final sales tally for the bodyguard soundtrack? i knew that song was a huge worldwide hit, but no internet in 1992 :D. but i def. remember tracking it on the hot 100 back then...oh speaking of which, i finished the bobby brown memoir, very good book! i was reading it while i was resting, finished almost the whole book in 1 day!

Hey Sunshine Gal! :)
I'm really sorry that I couldn't respond to you earlier, but I was in a lecture at the time. Thankfully Mondays are the only days that I have studying late in the afternoon. I saw your previous post though & according to Simm's & Ines' Hot 100 predictions for tonight, I think I saw Little Mix in the 80-90 region somewhere, but the video for SOTME onw has 45,626,571 views at the moment. :D
I'll still keep you updated on the Billboard charts; it looks like 'Closer' is going to spend its 12th week at #1 tonight, with Rae Sremmurd's 'Black Beatles' & Drake's 'Fake Love' possibly entering the Top 10 as well. The former is even a strong contender to be a future #1 in your country right now.
I'm very happy to hear about your progress, but my week has been terrible for a few reasons unfortunately. Hopefully you're still on now, but I'll chat to you tomorrow or later in the week if you're not. ;)

Hey Sunshine Gal! I hope everything is fine with you this week. :)
So here are a few updates from the Billboard charts:
- 'Closer' got a 12th consecutive week at #1, becoming the longest #1 hit since Wiz Khalifa & Charlie Puth's 'See You Again' from April-July 2015. It still dominates all metrics (sales, streaming & radio) as well.
- However Rae Sremmurd & Gucci Mane's 'Black Beatles' entered the Top 10 this week, but has exploded in sales & streaming. Despite little radio, it's a big contender for #1 next Monday. Drake's 'Fake Love' also climbed into the Top 10 this week.
- Little Mix's 'Shout Out To My Ex' falls 69-86 in it's 2nd week on the Hot 100 unfortunately & I expect this to leave next week. On a positive note, it now has 47,212,990 views on YouTube! :D
- Jeezy earned his 3rd BB200 #1 back on Sunday, with Kenny Chesney taking #2, Meek Mill at #3 & Avenged Sevenfold at #4. Lady Gaga fell to #5 in her 2nd week.
- For this week's upcoming BB200, Bon Jovi should get the #1, The Chainsmokers' new EP should arrive at #2, with Alicia Keys currently predicted for #3. The Weeknd, Bruno Mars & Little Mix will be among acts to release albums this month. ;)
- The CMAs didn't really have much an effect on the Hot 100 or BB200, but the AMAs on the 20th of this month should have a much larger impact. The performers there include: Ariana Grande, Bruno Mars, The Weeknd, The Chainsmokers, Green Day, Lady Gaga & many others.
- Finally, there is only 1 week left that counts towards the 2016 Year-End Hot 100. I expect Billboard to post this chart around the 2nd week of December.
I'll reply to you again if there's anything else I can think of. I look forward to your next post!

hey mate!!! thank you so much for the updates, i read each one and every one. well, i'm not worried about our lm mates..cuz i think they have a shot to earn a plat. and possibly multi-plat. award for the current single. and if simon decides to release a remix of the single later on, it could be an even bigger hit. glad to see they're winning newer fans...nobody said being a successful pop star was easy.

but i did want to tell you some good news: i'm able to walk a lil' faster (albeit normal pace, but faster for me) but man, i've been so pooped!! i conked out for 2 hrs yesterday afternoon, i couldn't believe it! also, my dad & i are still working things out with the insurance, in fact i have to cut this chat short for today, we need to iron out some details.

and...trump won the u.s. presidency!! :( my dad is a republican and even he voted for hillary (me too) i can't believe it...hillary wanted to pass a national health care system you all in europe have. with trump, he'd prob. expect someone like me to forage in the desert for my food :D

and 12 wks for 'closer'...? already!!?? i can't believe it...how long does simm and ines think it'll stay @ #1? tell everyone i said 'hi' and i'll be back soon :). all my bruises are healing up, it's just my toe and knee...but i'm making lots of progress with my walking and standing...the dr. told me @ least 4 wks time *it's already been 2 wks since my accident* i should be up and walking fine, but i'm already making lots of progress. ok mate, i'll try and be back later. just wanted to give you some updates :)

why was your week terrible? oh and the weather over here is in the low 80s, late 70s...:( perfect! but i haven't been outside in 2 weeks. remember when i was telling you how hot it'd be every day :D 110*??? my dad goes hiking in the desert trails and that can be lots of fun! you can see wild horses and deer *even mountain lions!* and lots of beautiful sunsets.

paul mccartney's first wife, linda, loved the desert sunsets and surroundings *she was also a photographer*. when paul still held onto their tucson ranch after linda passed, quite a few people in my area *incl. british tucsonans* would tell me stories about bumping into him @ the bank, seeing him in his toyota truck :) he'd be wearing a t-shirt and jeans and blended well with everyone. someone even told me she stole some mail from his mailbox :/ *@ my cashier job* i even said to her, 'you stole some of his mail??' see...even someone like him is just a reg. guy to me...i would never even think of doing something stupid like that. but we also get tourists from the uk in this area and just about everyone loved to drive up to see the ranch. i think he's sold it in the last few yrs though.

You're welcome! I'm so happy to hear that you're continuing to recover well. :)
Well all of us over on Billboard certainly miss you right now & I always update some commenters like Jstar & Techfan on your progress. Regarding Little Mix, I was watching a review of the Hot 100 on YouTube earlier today (it's called Billboard Breakdown by Spectrum Pulse & would definitely recommend watching some episodes) & he said that Little Mix will probably get a big boost when their album is released. I'm currently predicting that their 4th studio album, 'Glory Days', will become their 1st UK #1 & will probably debut in the lower part of the Top 10 on the BB200. The album is due for release in just 9 days now! :D
Yeah I was awake for most of the night seeing the results from each state & I'm also extremely surprised that Trump won. I can't remember what Arizona voted, but I think it was slightly Republican. I'll definitely say that this will be a very interesting 4 years for America... :O
This could be 'Closer's last week at #1, as 'Black Beatles' has over a 2.5x times lead on iTunes right now & has got nearly 10 million US Spotify streams in the last 7 days. The latter is Rae Sremmurd's first Top 10 hit on the Hot 100, but it will certainly be closer (no pun intended!) between The Chainsmokers & Rae Sremmurd for #1 than any of us ever expected. There won't really be much else happening in the Top 10 for next week though, with 'Don't Wanna Know' by Maroon 5 & Kendrick Lamar possibly returning to the Top 10.

I've just been feeling a bit ill for most of the week & I'm starting to miss home a bit now. Also I've had to stay up overnight doing a statistics assignment, which means I get little sleep. Additionally at the time of my last post, I got into a bit of an argument with one of my friends, but that's all fine now. :)
Well high 70s & low 80s temperatures are what most of the UK would be getting in the summer months! We now have it at about 50* during the day & 35* at night! :D LOL
Arizona definitely sounds like an interesting place, as you don't get desert in thousands of miles from the UK. I loved New York when I visited last February, but hopefully I'll be able to go to the US again one day. ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

hey mate!! yeah arizona is a republican state, lots of trump supporters here. but all trump is good @ doing is making tons of money and in any way possible. he's someone who would shut down a company and put countless people out of work just to reap the profits...not only that, he's good friends with vladimir putin...clinton is still good friends with just about every world leader LOL! i was in bed reading and got a text from my dad last night and i thought he was joking LOL! i was sure hillary would win.

lm has no #1 albums in england?? well, we'll see how it goes over here...look @ the dixie chicks! remember their 1st album took a long time to reach the top 10 and it became a huge success! and then their follow up debuted @ #1 and became the 1st country group to do so. so, sometimes it just takes a lil' bit more time to get something going :).

and yes, i do miss chatting with everyone, but i promise i'll be back soon...i'm certainly gonna celebrate with everyone for my 25th anniversary of being a hot 100 addict :D. i can't get over how much fun the charts still are to follow LOL! and 25 yrs ago, no internet :). but lots of great memories, i'll do a 'final thought's so to say LOL! telling everyone some of my fave moments on the hot 100 over the years, esp. artists who have passed away. but i can't believe how fast the time went! you know how i'm such a huge fan of tlc? next year, will be the 25th anniversary of their 1st album! they'll be eligible to be inducted in the rock and roll hall of fame. ok mate, now i gotta go LOL! i'll try and come back later on within the next few days. talk to you soon!

Well it was confirmed that Trump would be president at about 8am my time this morning (I watched it happen live on the BBC on TV) & then I went to Facebook to see how my friends reaction & they were certainly not happy! I wonder what effect this will have on the relationship between the UK & US, but I hope it remains a good one.
Regarding Little Mix, 'DNA' peaked at #3, 'Salute' got to #4 & 'Get Weird' reached #2. Their popularity is always growing in the UK though, so I have a feeling that 'Glory Days' will go all the way atop the albums chart in my country. :)
Yeah I need to go as well now, but I'm definitely excited for you to return to Billboard & for your next reply here on Official Charts. I'll also update everyone on how you're progressing. :D
Chat to you soon! ;)

hey mate! yeah there's tons of protests all thruout the states over trump's victory. and yet, hillary got more popular votes than him, he won on the electoral count. that's just so stupid!! what happened to the power of the masses LOL! happen to know of any single british guys that want an american wife? :D

oh good news, my big toe is looking more fleshy (not as red and swollen as it did over the last couple of weeks). and i did try and walk up and down 3 steps yesterday :D, walking down was fine, walking up was a lil' harder. so i'll try again in a few days (it'll be 3 wks on tues).

so, lm's chart positions you posted are from the uk albums chart? wonder who blocked them from the #1 spot? and is their new album slated to debut @ #1 in the uk? and yes, send all our friends all my love and well wishes...i also have to take care of things regarding the insurance and such in my personal time. plus, i can't get over how pooped i am every day :D. i've been taking naps every day LOL!

ok mate, just wanted to say hi and still express my disappointment that hillary's not our next president. i did my part and voted for her and tech. america did vote for her, the electoral votes (i think it's a standard for the last 100+ or so yrs) is what got him in :/. he just has a negative view on non-wealthy white americans....i don't care how much $ he's made in his life, that doesn't qualify you as a president. oh well, i'll catch you next time ;)

Hey Sunshine Gal! I'm pleased to hear that you're making even more progress & you definitely sound a lot of more positive now. So do you have any idea of when you'll be back on Billboard, or will you just continue to stay on Official Charts for a while yet? The new UK charts will update tomorrow if you're going to be on then. :)
Yeah I know that tens of millions of people feel the same way about Trump as you do. I doubt he'll do most of the things he said he will though & remember that we might have Kanye as president in 4 years from now! :D LOL
The chart positions I posted were indeed for Little Mix's UK albums chart performance. 'Get Weird' was actually blocked from #1 over here by Elvis Presley's 'If I Can Dream'. 'Glory Days' is likely to be Little Mix's 1st UK #1 album, but '24k Magic' by Bruno Mars will be their main competition.
Well I am on now, but only for a few minutes as I have some work to do for University. I'll also tell everyone on Billboard about your improvement. ;)

Anyway I was pretty much saying that I'm very pleased to hear about your improvement & that I completely agree with you regarding the presidential election results. Oh also answering your other question, Little Mix's 'Get Weird' album was blocked from #1 by Elvis Presley's 'If I Can Dream'. Bruno Mars' new album could be competition for Little Mix in 2 weeks (both will be released next Friday), but I expect the latter act to get the UK #1 album. :)

Congrats to Little Mix with their 3rd straight week at number 1. Also I am happy to see Clean Bandit reach the top 3. Drake seems to gets hits so easily these days. It will go higher but it will be very hard to reach the success of One Dance.

Also cool that Louisa Johnson and Jonas Blue had the 2 highest entries.

The songs that rose the most this week were Sneakin, Fake Love, Juju on that Beat and Million Reasons. Drake had 2 of the highest and Gaga had the highest rising 34 spots.

Guess the worst part of this week's chart is little mix. I hope little mix get off the number 1 spot soon. However Rockabye, 24K Magic and Don't Wanna Know are all making big leaps which is epic. Drake's also making the biggest climb in the top 40 this week and I think his new song is OK, just I hope it doesn't spend 15 weeks at number 1.

So Good and By Your Side enter at 20 and 21, both are definitely good, I think By Your Side might do well in the next couple of weeks.

Crank It's entered!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Juju, Lady Gaga and Giggs are all climbing. Juju will probably be top 40 next week, Lady Gaga will drop a lot next week and I don't know about Giggs.

Yeah it is a good song, but when I first heard it I thought it was David guetta.

Why are Sean Paul and Anne Marie no longer credited on the Clean Bandit hit?
