Here's a song that deserved a much higher chart position. I reckon this would have been a top 5 hit pre-internet streaming. The beginning is so classy!

I have just seen some of Zara Larrsonns you tube videos and they are just pure spouting hatred about men, pure extremism, why anyone buys her music I don't know, but I suppose it's fashionable to hate men nowardays

Quality of music does not tie in with overall attitude. Robin Thicke, Limp Bizkit and Chris Brown all have a few good songs and all those artists are known to be douchebags.

Yes you are allowed to be a bag and I think she is entitled to hate all men if she wants too, but I don't feel she is entitled to share her poisonous views on social media and interviews. Keep it private.

Oooh 'Starboy' moves up to 2, you go girl, 'Say You Won't Let Go' staying kaput, the Scot holding number 4, clover fella climb's 91places to barely get in the top 10, Gouldylocks falls one place to 12, 'Dancing On My Own' holds same place as previous week, Olly boy still falling down sadly, his second single 'Grow Up' is out and due to chart next week, Craig David 'Ain't Giving Up climbing due to the album, and Robbie goes from pop star to flop star, poor choice of a lead single, "party like a Russian" seriously, more Norman Wisdom than Elvis Presley I think here, the song is plodding, and is a long grower, nothing else notable or even worthing pointing out here so time to make a sandwich I think, feeling cheese and pickle, screw it I wrote a good summary so a toasty, proud of myself.

You clearly don't like Robbie Williams mate. It's number 23 in the sales alone chart so not a complete flop. Anyway it's albums that mean more to these older artists these days and he's bound to be number one.

Oh and that was a rubbish review so bread and dripping for you my boy!!

Congratulations to James Arthur for a 2nd week at #1 on the singles chart with 'Say You Won't Let Go' & to The Weeknd for his highest charting song in the UK so far. As much as I would love 'Starboy' to be the next #1, 'Say You Won't Let Go' is still selling nearly twice as more than 'Starboy' this week & has even passed 'Closer' on Spotify streaming, so unless Bruno Mars can debut very high, I don't think James Arthur will be going anywhere for a little while yet.
I am very happy to see 'Ain't My Fault' is nearing the Top 10 & I'm hoping it can enter this region soon. The official video release gave streaming a big rise & sales went up for it as lot as it was discounted on iTunes. Zara Larsson was rising on both metrics with her new song anyway & I can't wait for her to announce a new album!
Another climb that I really like is 'Starving', but it's been a great week especially for Craig David as 'Ain't Giving Up' rises 16 places in the Top 40 (to reach a new peak) & earns he earns his 1st #1 album in 16 years with 'Following My Intuition'. Bon Iver have their highest charting album to date with '22, A Million' at #2 & The Shires now have the fastest selling UK country album of all-time, as 'My Everything' enters at #3. :)
Also I'm impressed by the 100-9 jump made my Niall Horan's 'This Town' & I wonder when the last time a song climbed 91 places (or more) in this chart was. :D
A good week overall in my opinion. ;)

R

riley

1

hey.forgot to mention the chainsmokers new one. i really like that now. I also agree with your starving review and i think its only gonna climb higher, top 20 bound?

avatar

Piran

2

Hey Riley! :D
Yeah there was a lot I wanted to discuss in my review today, but I'm very pleased that The Chainsmokers earned their 5th UK Top 40 appearance today & 'All We Know' is definitely becoming one of my favourite songs at the moment. :)
I agree with you regarding 'Starving' & think it probably will go Top 20 soon. I saw your thoughts earlier & it's great to hear that you're starting to like 'Say You Won't Let Go' a bit more than you did last week. I doubt 'Starboy' will hit #1 next week, but it's probably the strongest contender to stop 'Say You Won't Let Go', so maybe that could happen in 3-4 weeks.
However I can't understand why 'Hurts' by Emeli Sande hasn't charted higher than #22 yet & is starting to fall this week, especially with all of the radio support it has been getting. :/

Hi Piran :)
Yea i agree that it could be a few more weeks for James Arthur at number 1. its starting to grow on me but i prefer Starboy. The chainsmokers new one is one that has really grown on me over the last few weeks.Starving being TOTD on Radio 1 helped it and it`s starting to get more airplay so i think it could break into top 20. Another song which i think could hit the top 20 (return) to it, is CSTF by Justin Timberlake as it is still doing well in sales and the Trolls movie comes out next week. Emeli Sande`s new one is quite a weird song IMO. I get where your coming from tho on it not charting higher.
Another song which i forgot to mention is Sexual by Neiked, i surprisingly really like this song and it`s quite impressive that it`s in the top 40 as it has had all but NO airplay at all/ promotion. Hoping that can climb higher.

As for next week, it will be interesting to see if Niall Horan can stay in the top 10 or if he will be a 1 week wonder. Also interesting to see what happens with bruno mars & olly murs new ones. Im hoping also next week Galantis can enter the top 40 and Ariana Grande can stay in the top 5.I think Zara Larson could hit the top 10 as Aint My Fault is doing very well atm.

Piran

Interestingly with 'Say You Won't Let Go', it's #1 mostly because of sales & not streaming, but other #1 hits this year are due to their dominance in the latter category. Also as well as Spotify, James Arthur went to #1 on the overall streaming charts this week. :)
Well that's great to hear that 'Starving' is gaining in airplay & it definitely deserves to, especially on such a major station like Radio 1. 'Ain't My Fault', especially the video, has actually been very controversial looking at the YouTube comments, but I apparently heard in an interview that Zara Larsson is a very strong feminist (but some people are even calling her sexist). Well I'm happy to support her because she seems like a really nice person in the interviews I've seen & she sounds amazing. Controversial hits seem to do well anyway! :D LOL
I think CSTF is too low to reach the Top 20 now, but it might get a boost in sales next week... I'm just excited for his next album! 'Hurts' is getting a lot of radio airplay, so it could still become a hit, but I'll need to hear 'Sexual' a bit more before I give my full opinion of it, but I just wasn't that interested at first listen. I honestly don't think Niall will stay in the overall Top 10 this week due to the huge loss in sales. so much that 'This Town' is out of the Top 10 on iTunes now, though it is gaining by quite a bit on streaming, so it may still have a slight chance.
So what has been your most & least favourite #1 hit of 2016 so far? ;)

R

riley

1

Favorite number 1 is probabley cold water. Least fav may be Say you wont let go or 7 years. 7 years was extremely overplayed.
One song that i wish and still don`t know how it somehow didn't hit #1 was This Girl by Kungs. Spent weeks at the top of sales chart and somehow couldn't do it.

What are your thoughts on the article updated by OCC showing the biggest songs of 2016?

avatar

Piran

1

My most favourite would probably be 'Closer' & my least favourite is 'Pillowtalk'. Yeah '7 Years' was always on the radio & started to get annoying, but I still think it's very over-hated.
Regarding 'This Girl', it was #1 on the Official Chart Update for 3 weeks, but 'One Dance' would suddenly gain in performance later in the week (especially on streaming) & keep the #1 overall. :/
Well with the biggest songs of 2016, I'm very surprised that 'Hello' is as low as #40 & 'Light It Up' is as high as #14. 'Cheap Thrills' seems to be the biggest non-#1 hit of this year, but my favourite #2-peaking song is CSTF. :)
'Let Me Love You' & 'Say You Won't Let Go' may still have a chance to enter the overall 2016 Chart Of The Year before December though. :D

True, Ain't My Fault is pretty terrible

R

I don`t hate 7 years, just not that fond of it. it is defiantly over hated but it just got overplayed and very boring. Pillowtalk i don`t mind. Some days i like it, others i don`t although i would of preferred Fast Car to get to the top over it. It was weird how This Girl couldn't get to number 1. Hello is quite surprising being that low but i do understand as it spent only a few weeks at number 3 this year. i`m not to surprised with Light It Up as it was around the top for along time and i think had 4 different spells in the top 10, one of those songs that didn't go away. It is one of my favorite songs of the year as well aha. CSTF and TIWYCF and WFH are my 2 favorite number #2 hits but it does not surprise me that Cheap Thrills is the biggest #2 hit of the year as it spent a VERY long time in the top 20, and was very slow to fall down the chart. Another song which charted at #2 which im surprised is that high is Work by Rihanna, it spent 2 weeks at number #2 yet has charted so high. Not complaining as i love the song but them 2 weeks at #2 she must of sold alot along with 7 years.

Regarding the chart of the year though. what i don`t get is that Stressed out is charted higher than songs such as I hate U I Love U, tears and Perfect strangers. Them 3 songs are all certified platinum whilst stressed out is certified gold still, it`s very strange unless ive made a complete fall out of myself and missed something out.
Say You Won`t Let Go, Starboy and Let Me Love You will definitely be in the chart of the year. i expect to see some Ariana Grande in there aswell. But i think it`s without question that One Dance will be the biggest song of the year. another thing i have noticed is that there are alot of Platinum singles this year compared to last. Streaming has kept songs in the chart a lot longer and boosted combined sales drastically this year.

SF

Then she is pathetic, men are not able to spout extremist sexist comments about women but apparently women can do it to men of course. It's extremism and therefore ignorant.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey stranger!! :PPP!!! wow, i was scrolling down the entire chart, a handful of artists i've never heard of :D

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah I completely agree with your opinion of '7 Years' & it's definitely a shame that 'Fast Car' couldn't get above #2... then 'Perfect Strangers' reaches that same peak, despite being #1 on sales for at least 2 weeks. :/
The only reason I think 'Stressed Out' is higher is because it was released much earlier than those other songs you mentioned. 'Side To Side' might have a chance at the Top 40 on the Chart Of The Year, but I completely forgot about 'Starboy'! Do you think the latter will be the UK's next #1 song then? :)
Another hit that I didn't think would be able to reach the Top 40 on the Chart Of The Year's current update (but is as #32 right now) is 'Panda'. What is your opinion of this song, because it's one of those you either love or hate? :D

avatar

Piran

1

Well I wouldn't expect you to know the #1 & #10 songs on this chart, considering they are nowhere near the Hot 100 right now, but I'd definitely recommend them. :)
If you wanted to look at the UK Singles Chart & my thoughts regarding them, then they should update before you're on here each Saturday.

R

riley

1

I do quite like Panda it`s not a bad song i don`t think. At least with Fast car it never actually went to #1 in the sales chart so its fair that it didn't reach #1 What do you think of it? I still don`t get it with Stressed out because Perfect strangers for example has sold more and got a higher certificate (in platinum 600,000 combined sales) whilst stressed out is still under gold (400,000 combined sales) strange.
Jonas blue it seems like is one of those artists that has terrible luck, Sia, Taylor swift only reaching #2 and it seems like the same is happening with Jonas.
I think Starboy will be up there for a while but im not sure it can reach number 1. Like you say, James Arthur is doing.very well still in sales and is now dominating in streaming.I think we will see at least another 2 weeks of James at #1

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

ok, cool...you may have to remind me sometimes ;). but yeah, considering i'm such a chart addict, i'd certainly love to see what's going on in the uk scene...any long runs @ #1 over there like on the hot 100?

avatar

Piran

0

Well I really like 'Panda', despite not being able to understand most of the lyrics! ;) LOL
Yeah it does seem very strange based on that information, but I absolutely love: Jonas Blue, Taylor Swift or Sia to get #1s as lead artists (but at least the latter artist did as a featured artist on David Guetta's 'Titanium').

avatar

Piran

3

Well the UK is generally known to have shorter #1 runs than the US, but 'One Dance' managed to get 15 weeks atop this chart & even became the 2nd longest consecutive #1 single of all-time (since the UK charts began in November 1952). This generally didn't get a good reaction on this discussion forum though!
The next longest UK #1s this year would be '7 Years' & 'Cold Water', which were both able to stay at #1 for 5 weeks. :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

oh that's right!!! you told me 15 wks...i can't believe it! if any song went 15 wks over here, all would break loose on bb!! 'one sweet day' is the only song to go that length, and it's been 20 yrs since it was last @ #1. but i think one day, someone will break that record.

You support her feminism even though it means she wants even less rights for you and hates what you are Piran, a man from Cornwall I assume, men are less important now but they still want more, where does it end? Just some food for thought, what are your thoughts on Robbie William's low entry and do you think 'Starboy' will take next week?

avatar

Piran

0

I just want to make something clear: when I said I support her feminism, I only meant that I support the fact that men & women should have equal rights & be treated the same. Someone responded to me earlier saying in an interview that she literally said that she hates men, but If that's true then I would agree that was a sexist comment, though I haven't seen that interview so I can't give any thoughts on that. Yeah, I am a Cornishman.
I'm very surprised that Robbie debuted as low as #68, but comeback singles haven't been successful at all this year... look at what happened to Lady Gaga & Britney Spears for example.
I don't think 'Starboy' will be #1 next week & might end up being blocked at #2 by 'Say You Won't Let Go' (which has huge sales, so James Arthur may have a chance at 4+ weeks at #1).

C

chartwatcher

0

If Olly Murs said he hated women his career would be over tomorrow lol and he would never hear the last of it from the large media.

C

chartwatcher

0

Any decent feminist knows that you stop at equality, Zara seems like a narcissist, I have seen interviews with her and she seems to have an overdeveloped sense of self importance and a lack of compassion all psychopathic traits, there is something not right with her, and yeah he is doing great, I reckon Robbie will rise higher, we will see.

avatar

Piran

0

Ah okay, who were those interviews with then? (I'm curious to watch them now)
I hope Robbie Williams rises; I just don't think it will happen unfortunately. 'Party Like A Russian' grew on me a lot this week. :)
So are you watching X Factor then? It looks like it's having a big impact on iTunes... 'Say You Won't Let Go' is still bounding up on sales & is now leading over 'Closer' by about twice as many downloads. I'm also hoping that 'That's My Girl' can debut well on Friday.

SF

Simon Flynn

0

Completely true, nobody cares about men hence huge suicides etc. I only hope people choose not to work with her or buy her records and she vanishes.

C

chartwatcher

0

Yeah it is an unfair world really, that is why men write the best and most love song's, feminism is out dated and pointless now, don't let her get to you she is an extremist narcissist exception, and considering she is a Swedish act she probably will fade soon, we can only hope.

SF

Simon Flynn

0

Feminism used to mean something, it had either a point or a purpose. It was done with intelligence an even style. Women like Germaine Greer etc, I like strong women and there are hundreds in the music inspdustry alone, Laarsson is just plain ignorant pure and simple.

SF

Simon Flynn

0

It's on YouTube, she is not a feminist she is a man hating extreamist, two seperate things. Equal rites? If a man shared the same views on women he would hacve no career full stop.

avatar

Piran

0

You know what... I actually found an interview she did with Fuse in the US & she does indeed admit that she's a man-hater. That surprised me a lot because she's made really mature comments in all of the interviews I've seen her in, but going that far was indeed uncalled for. Well all can I hope for is that she doesn't make any more remarks like that, because I've always considered myself a big fan of hers, but she'll just lose a lot of supporters if she continues like that. :/

SF

Simon Flynn

0

Yes it surprised me how open she was about it and quite proud of her hatred, all her singles bar 2 are collaborations and all with men. As said they should stop working with her. If every man stopped buying her records she would be in trouble career wise. I hope all men will do it, ordinarily it would not bother me but because society is obsessed with any form of negativity against women and comes down on it with an iron fist, this is not equality.

R

riley

2

Don`t mind James Arthur at number 1 for a second week as his new song is beginning to grow on me but i wish the Weeknd would of hit number 1. Hoping he can next week. Also, congrats to Niall Horan on hitting the top 10. Really like the new chainsmokers one, hopefully that can climb over the text few weeks, and congrats to Ariana Grande for hitting the top 5 with Side to side
