Honestly surprised by this issue as everything has charted practically on its midweek charting which is pretty rare, could this be the turning point or just a good week we'll see soon enough, and we witness exactly why John Newman's Ole should of been credited under Harris, and we also see something else, the Coldplay sounding My Way with the Harris doing Chris Martin sounding vocals is the first single this year Calvin has uploaded a full length audio to on his YouTube channel, and as you can see it has had an effect on sales cos everyone converts it, to save John's career they need to go back in the studio and do the real follow up to Blame, cos theoretically they can dismiss Ole as a Newman single produced by Calvin, they need to do this to get John's foot back in the door, then John needs to sign with Calvin's fly eye records or any other label and release a Love Me Again sized hit with a powerful go to church chorus, something like I don't know Only You maybe, and an album after with the usual 7 letter title like Survive maybe, up to him, happy to hear Olly Murs single has recently gone silver for sales over 200,000 copies and his sold out his tours really quickly, years & years have had their first flop, Ellie's song is now climbing due to the film, but lots of flops still and low entries, streaming seems to have too much importance rather than being even with the sales.

Wonder if the Chainsmokers will break a #1 record.

Riley, not sure it's such a great week.

I think you'll find that 'the ratio of new singles out each week or available to stream to chart success' isn't that high. What I mean is if ten singles are released in a week you may get 2 or 3 breaking into the top 100. This means 7 or so don't chart at all. You could argue the chart is the least healthy it's ever been. Let's put it to the test. Here is a list of new songs out this week (from 23 September):

2Play feat Christian Jules – She’s Got That Vibe
Alibis – Cruel World
Armand Van Helden – Wings
Aston Merrygold – I Ain’t Missing You
Bishop Briggs – Be Your Love
Bon Jovi – Labor Of Love
The Chainsmokers feat Halsey – Closer (Remixes)
David Guetta x Cedric Gervais x Chris Willis – Would I Lie To You Baby
JoJo feat Remy Ma – FAB
Kat DeLuna – Waves
Keane – Tear Up This Town
Klangkarussell – Hey Maria
Margaret Berger – Running With Scissors
Michael Buble – On An Evening In Roma (Sotter Celo De Roma)
Mount Cashmore – Love You More
Nervo feat Timmy Trumpet – Anywhere You Go
Nevada feat Mark Morrison & Fetty Wap – The Mack
Regina Spektor – Older And Taller
Sean Smith – Turn Me On
Sløtface – Bright Lights
Sting – 50,000
Teddy Mac – You Make Me Feel So Young
Tempa T – Not A Rocker
Will Joseph Cook – Sweet Dreamer

24 new songs. Let's see how many of them enter the top 100 next Friday.

More new entries is not necessarily a good thing. I would rather 3 good new songs in the top 100 than 10 dismal ones. I'm not saying the charts are good right now, but what I am saying is the lack of movement isn't as important as it's made out. I listen to many radio stations frequently and I have only heard one of those new songs you've listed (aside from the Closer remixes, which aren't really new), which I thought was rubbish. Just because 24 songs are released doesn't mean they should all chart well, otherwise what's the point in the chart if every song does well in it? After all, it's a guide of popularity, and the lack of movement show that the same songs are the most popular ones as the week before. Also, why is The Weeknd's Starboy not on that list? I know it was released on Thursday, but it's the first full week it's had.

looking at this it is no surprise there are less new entries per week. back in the day, there were at least 100 new releases each week!

I am not a fan of My Way but at least it blocked Side to Side from hitting the top 5. The best thing is All In My Head didn't do very well in the end.

So glad The Chainsmokers and Halsey are number 1 again this week and blocked James Arthur from the top spot, I'm not really a fan of his music.

True but at this point any number 1 is a good thing considering the movement

Really liking this weeks official charts. Good to see so much movement! Happy that the Chainsmokers are number 1 again and very happy that Calvin Harris has hit the top 5 with My Way. Good to see Ariana Grande still climbing and also happy Martin Garrix is back in the top 10 with ITNOL. Also happy that Hailee Steinfield has hit the top 40 and glad that digital farm animals and cash cash are climbing. Overall - great week

Congratulations to The Chainsmokers & Halsey for a 4th week at #1 with 'Closer'! I still love this song a lot, but I'd rather it was James Arthur at the top of the charts this week (although the strong sales of 'Say You Won't Let Go' should keep it as a strong contender next Friday as well). It's a shame that 'Perfect Illusion' only lasted 1 week in the Top 40 & it looks like the official video couldn't save Lady Gaga from falling fast, but I prefer her dance-pop songs even though I don't mind her newest single.
Meanwhile Calvin Harris earns his 21st Top 10 today with 'My Way'; it might have took a while to grow on me, but it's actually a pretty catchy hit. It's definitely great to see Hailee Steinfeld earn her 1st UK Top 40 appearance & I'm so surprised the 3 previous singles from her debut EP haven't charted as she's such a talented artist.
Also, other than the #1, there was no other song in the Top 10 that remained in the same place as last week & although Drake has performed very well in 2016, I definitely think 'One Dance' overstayed in the Top 10, so I'm alright with it leaving that region. Good chart overall this week though! :)

I agree with you on most things although im not sure on james Authurs new track yet. Might be a grower like sias which i now love. I`m happy that calvin in back in top 5 and also happy that Martin garrix and ariana grande are climbing :)

Hey Riley, I hope you've had a good week! :)
Well 'My Way' didn't impress me that much when I first heard it, but now I'm really happy that it entered in the Top 5. You might like 'Say You Won't Let Go' if you give it some more listens. :D
Oh I also wanted to ask you for your thoughts on 'Perfect Illusion'. I know it's definitely not Lady Gaga's best song, but I didn't think it would underperform so much that it couldn't even get a Top 10 debut. :/

i am surprised its fallen so rapidly because i agree, it`s a grower. Its like i said a few weeks ago, the Katy Perry`s, gagas, Britney`s are finding it so much harder to get into the charts now adays. i do feel perfect illusion will re enter the chart at some stage tho.

Also i agree that Drakes time in the top 10 defiantly deserves to come to an end. Wish Controlla would of done better tho. Also I really like that Hailee Steinfeld track and agree its good to see it in the top 40

'Perfect Illusion' could re-enter when Lady Gaga's new album is released next month & I'm looking to hearing her collaboration with Florence Welch. Regarding Katy Perry, 'Rise' wasn't a single, so I have a feeling that she will do much better with her next album. :)
Well as I mentioned in my observations from last week, Drake has been in the Top 10 for every week since 5th February this year... so that's 7 & a half months of consecutive appearances in that region! :O
Hailee Steinfeld interests me because she's only 19 & already has 3 careers: singing, acting & modelling, so that's why I say that she's talented & she also reminds me a lot of Selena Gomez.

Gaga with Florence Welch? Jesus. My mouth willbe bleeding from surgery next week but not half as much as my ears when I hear a collaboration between the woman who ruined The source's "You got the love" (to the point where young idiots think its her song) and the woman who thought she would become bigger than Madonna and happily allowed her little idiots to get very nasty very quickly - which actually seems to have ruined her career - great fans those monsters.......

But why will anyone buy Perfect Illusion the single, when you have it included in the full CD if you buy it, or your download. Remember, single sales are absolutely dismal and it only takes a few hundred physical sales to put anything in the top 20. Interesting to see who are the actual buys of singles these days - i would say they are the under 20's to put on their devices and no one else. Adults with money will not buy a once off single anymore like we did in the 70's or 80's.

"You Got The Love" wasn't originally by The Source.

You are right Jizaster, The Source did the '91 Remix which featured the vocal from Candi Staton's 1986 original version (she who also sung 'Young Hearts Run Free') It was remixed at least two more times that I can remember, notably the "New Voyager" Remix in early '97 (featured on Now 36) which I am pretty sure was the most successful in terms of chart position. The 1991 version is the best imo though. And yes, Florence Welch totally s#*! all over one of the best club tracks ever made!

Geez, that new James Arthur song is dismal. The guy mumbles instead of singing.

And the lyrics are extremely cheesy. Take the kids to school? No wonder he's been forgotten about for years
