This is the worse Charts I've seen, Don't even like more than half these songs and only heard 3 of these artists. They seriously need to change this! Also what happened to ''The Biggest Boyband in the world?'' (One Direction) Honestly, More than 3 of their songs on their new album are big hits at the moment and i don't even see one.

Surprised to see OneRepublic dropping, and Ellie and Craig entering so low.

Once again the difference in sales charts to the current tracks chart is immense. Ellie Goulding and Craig David are top 10 new entries but Craig David barely scrapes the top 40. Olly Murs got to 6 in the sales chart but no 19 in the streaming dumb chart, huge difference. When you look at how many number 1's there have been in the sales chart that have not made no 1 in the joke real chart literally tons of songs. Any large act U2, Kaiser Chiefs, Manics, Depeche mode and countless more don't stand a prayer of charting high under this current barbaric chart and they are massively popular in the album chart. If they won't change it just scrap it, why have a singles chart. In fact if you were to work out how little new entries there are in the top 40 in a year and then break it down to how many are singles or album tracks , how many from repeated artists like Bieber, Drake or Rhianna and you will see how little fresh new UK artists enter this now inpenetrable chart.
Daniel Ayquero
Thank you for your comment. I was thinking the same regarding the representation of British artists in the charts. Once again we see the growing discrepancy between the albums chart and singles chart. It's worth noting that the best-selling albums of 2016 in the UK are by British artists and many more reached the top of the chart. From the singles chart alone you would never actually guess that British dominate the local music scene as we've seen only ONE British artist at the top in 8 months. Unlike sales charts which use raw data, streaming-based charts work with an arbitrary set of variables making it a highly subjective business. I would like to analyse some grey areas of the chart-compiling process in the discussion next week as I don't want to bore people stiff :).
Painmix King
Yes and the current number 1 Cold Water, down to 4 from 3 in the sales chart
Calum Pk7
Craig David is amazing but because of streaming his songs dont do well enough. It was the same with nothing like this and one more time too and no holding back didnt even hit the top 100 I hope his album does well next month!

Underwhelming movement in the top 10 and after Olly climbed last week he totally falls back? Yet that @$$h0le Anne Marie still climbs? WTF?
C
chartwatcher
Hello Mollie King, goodbye Mollie King just like that, one movement in the top five, loads of low entries, gosh streaming has ruined this chart, painful to watch, a sorry state indeed here now, I was not going to comment but I think a change is needed, anybody got Olly Murs on Twitter, he has been complaining about this chart, I want to start a petition see just how many want a sales only chart again, try get a musician behind it, there is injustice going on here like big time lol, I have to look in to how to make a petition, have to make a solid argument and have big points, new entries flop too often and the movement is low and number ones hold too long, just have a separate chart for streaming done, restore sales only for this here, worked fine in 2013.
I Am A Stegosaurus
Totally. That's why 2013 was such a good year for music, and after 14 it went downhill
I Am A Stegosaurus
Some guy on here made an online petition a few weeks ago to ban streaming from the charts but I forgot where the link to is
C
chartwatcher
Aw snap, I am looking in to how to create a petition and will try to post up on next edition, and true but the effects are truly being felt this year on an unprecedented huge scale.
Painmix King
Cold Water down to 4 from 3 in the sales chart

8 months of 2016 gone and only 7 different number 1's yawn!

Not counting "Love Yourself" from last year, it's only 6 number 1's!
Pedro Lobo Romero
I dont understand why Dont Be So Shy by Imany is not charting or being promoted
I Holmes
I agree. It's been getting decent radio support.
Josh Dransfield
It was at around 50 in sales about 2 weeks ago. But because of the very low streaming, it failed to hit the hot 100.
SH

Because it's boring and repetitive.
Carl Mefkintallica Foxall
That talentless still occupies the top 2 and "Hardwired" by Metallica" fails 2 make the top 100 Wot a joke
R
RIME
Wow, didn't expect the Turn Me On remake to be here already. In a similar but flipped note, finally that Bob Marley remake is in the top 40!
Calum Pk7
I think you got them the wrong way round. Let me hold you (turn me on) is AMAZING like cheat codes' old song and bob marleys song is soooooooooo rubbish how it is no7 on itunes I do not know
R
RIME
Oh no, I was merely speaking on the pace of their chart runs. Is This Love was lurking by the top 40 for the past month or so, while Let Me Hold You was far away by the top 75 last week and was still new.
Calum Pk7
Yeah good point. But is this love is so bad - I swear bob marley is dead? How is he still in the charts?
TheInkAndThePaper
-Good grief, how is White Tiger only at 91? It's a great song!
-Olly Murs is dull as , who is buying his music? Every one of his songs is bland, except for perhaps Heart Skips A Beat.
-Cold Water sounds like every Major Lazer song ever. Please leave the #1 spot.
Glen Diamond
I've taken a look at the 70's charts (from this official charts) and I've noticed that the "funk" dance tracks that were regularly being played by DJ's are in the lower end of the charts (positions 50-75 etc), so maybe it's quite accurate that the popular british tunes are charting lower nowadays!
Daniel Ayquero
It's very interesting how OCC has managed to completely 'ruin' what used to be one of the most exciting and most prestigious charts in the world. The music legacy of decades gone in two years. I'm not sure why catching trends is so important nowadays, but once you damage your reputation, it's very difficult to get it back. I was basically forced to shift my focus to the album chart, which seems to be the trend-setter now instead of the stale, boring, never-changing singles chart. High-quality pop and pop-rock has almost vanished from the top of the singles charts. It's sad and strange to see gold and platinum albums without any charting hits. Is this the future of the UK charts?
R
RIME
You say that like it's the chart's fault and not consumers'. Vote with your wallet and/or clicks!
Daniel Ayquero
I was referring to the OCC (Official Charts Company, the compiler). No matter what I buy or click, I cannot change the way charts are compiled. Maybe I'm just a bit nostalgic and sad that my favourites are no longer charting in the singles chart. Well, times they are a changing...
Painmix King
Well said Daniel

Andrew077
I know how you feel, but I've noticed that it's been that way since about 2008-2009 that a number of my fave rock and indie bands suddenly stopped having top 40 hits and were beginning to flop, like Ash for instance, one of my fave bands, who at one point gave up releasing albums in favour of singles and released 26 singles in one year and not a single one of them even made the top 40, sadly. Gone are those days where you could have exciting sounding songs or even diverse ranges of music in the singles chart. So yeah, the so-called "singles" chart, or should I now say "tracks" chart has completely lost all relevance because of streaming, hype, image and mass downloading (how can Rihanna or Drake or Bieber simultaneously have 5 tracks in the top 100 each, isn't that not cheating? There ought to be a regulation against that). Albums charts are more important now these days.
A
addickted2hcharlton
Yeah well I prefer the 70s n 80s meself n the music nahadays aint up to wot we ad back then but iss all online so I can always listen to it dahn my gaff.
A

Thass wot I think n all.
Daniel Ayquero
Thank you for your insight. I agree that OCC has moved from a singles chart to a tracks chart. It's worth noting, however, that some countries only allow official singles to chart and some limit the number of tracks which can chart simultaneously. We also remember the times when Billboard didn't allow radio hits to chart (still can't get over the fact that Don't Speak didn't chart in the US :) before they changed the formula. I'm not saying it's good or bad but Billboard seems to be tweaking the formula whenever they feel the chart is becoming too stale or irrelevant. Who would've thought that Billboard Hot 100 would eventually become the more 'action-packed' chart in the future?
OCC could easily redistribute the weight of sales vs streams, recalculate the value of a stream, impose limits on the number of tracks (remember instant grat tracks?) or move 'eternal' songs to a recurrent chart. But for whatever reason they seem to be happy with the current formula or too afraid to touch it again so soon. I guess we'll never know. So thank god for the albums chart I get most of new music from there!
SF
Simon Flynn
Totally agree
JC
John Conway
Yes, indeed Daniel. Times are changing and not for the better (judging by the crapology going on nowadays - I mean, who ever heard of a song spending more than a year in the singles chart ? And who ever heard of 5, 6 or 7 songs from the same artist in the chart at the same time ???) .
Piran
Missed this last week, but here is my review of the UK charts:
Congratulations to: Major Lazer, Justin Bieber & MO for a 5th week at #1 with 'Cold Water'. I would say that the best part of the chart for me today is seeing an entire dance Top 3 & it's still impressive how Bieber can be #1 on both Sales & Streaming... but with different songs! Also a bit of information regarding the Top 2 this week; I just heard on Radio 1 that 'Let Me Love You' accumulated 70k total units this week & 'Cold Water' was only about 1.4k ahead of that. That means it was certainly a close race to #1, so maybe JB could replace himself at #1 again soon? Other than 'Let Me Love You' & maybe 'Closer', no other songs seems to be near to the performance of 'Cold Water' right now. I wouldn't mind which of the 3 hits mentioned is #1 next week though, because I find all of them really good. It's a shame that 'You Don't Know Love' fell from 19-31, but I'm pleased that it reached a new peak & entered the Top 20 last week, mostly thanks to the iTunes discount. :)
As for the rest of chart, there's not really too much to say about the rest of the Top 10, because it's the same songs in the Top 12 as last week (not really surprised based on previous charts in 2016)! Well just below that, I guess 'We Don't Talk Anymore' is growing on me, yet I'm slightly disappointed that the 4 new entries in the Top 40 are so low, entering at: #25, #29, #39 & #40, considering I like all of them. At least each of these new entries come from a variety of genres which is good & meanwhile on the albums chart, Frank Ocean's 'Blond' debuts at #1 & Dolly Parton's 'Pure & Simple' is just behind it at #2.

Everyone seems to like Olly Murs, myself included.
I Am A Stegosaurus
Yeah he's my fave but I know one that doesn't and that's that 'drew' guy, everytime I mention Olly Murs Drew has to respond with a hate comment against him.
I.B.
Another single to spend more than a month at the top.
SH
Scott Harris
IKR? We only got 2 songs that spent less than 4 weeks at the top.
