Hoping "Cold Water" can block "Let Me Love You" from the top spot, it's not good enough to be #1.

Sia's releasing "Bird Set Free" as her next single in September! No doubt it's gonna be played on the radio a million times, but the song is amazing so it deserves it!

what about 101-200? I think it has more movement than between 1-100

Come on guys get those new Martin Garrix and Tinie Tempah songs into the top 40!

Yeah those songs are great. I only just heard in the name of love and its amazing. For me it sounds kind of like jonas blue the way it sounds kind of tropical and summery.

great Fifth WHORmony are in the top 40 but at least they didn't hit particularly high. Shame Fetty Wap is back in though, thought he had faded into oblivion.

I feel pretty happy about the charts today. 11 new entries and 1 re-entry, so lots of movement for once lower down the top 100, with some good songs like Don't Need No Money, Kiss The Sky and Closer entering. Yes, there was little movement near the top, but there will be next week as Let Me Love You enters. That will be interesting: Bieber vs. Bieber (now where have we heard that before?). I reckon Cold Water will win though; it is actually a pretty good song.
I'm also really happy that All In My Head (Flex) got in the top 40, I think it has a realistic chance of getting top 20 and possibly even top 10.
It's annoying to see my Cheat Codes jam drop 9 places, but they have another new song in the top 100 which is pretty good.
It's also good to see some new acts from 2016 (M.O, the other MO, Dua Lipa, Imani, Anne-Marie and more) getting a chance in the upper reaches of the charts. It's good to see that people are giving these acts a chance and listening to their songs.
When you compare this to the failures of Britney Spears and Katy Perry, you see that the charts are changing these days.
I'm a bit disappointed to see songs like Mamacita and Please Don't Go continuously fail to reach the top 40 though, as they both deserve it, especially Mamacita.

I Am A Stegosaurus

Yeah, Mamacita should definitely be in

C

it is slightly different and a bit of a change in direction in sound for Tinie so perhaps it put some fans off

Still has a chance. What you said was certainly right for Ole, though.

can't remember what i said mate lol

C

and you have probably already heard but ole got to 120 in the chart how ridiculous John really needs to look for another label, it should receive a US release yet though, if it chart's well their then he can try for US fame, really hoping it does do it for him

Ole sounds completely different to Newman's other songs so it might have put some fans off.

The Singles chart is now officially slower than the Albums chart its a national disgrace, its slower than the Billboard chart, look at the non movement this week, a song so pathetic and weak like Drakes can rule for that long and now who is saying how long this rubbish will be No1, The singles chart is a joke, at least the chart based on apple iTunes the Big Top 40 is more up to date its real, its relevant, its based on airplay, sales and is bang up to date, this official chart and the streaming is a just a joke

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

Yeah you have a point regarding lack of movement in top 10

avatar

Painmix King

0

I agree totally apart from the airplay bit, as that can be manipulated so easily e.g. record company pay the radio station to play certain tunes so many times a day.

S

S0me1

The Big top 40 is just as much of a joke as this chart, the lower end is often full of old songs that get loads of airplay, although I will admit that the top 10 (which does not include airplay) is far better.

I never expected Dancing on My Own to still be kicking it at this point, much less gunning for No. 1. Do you guys think it'll make it?

C

chartwatcher

0

yeah next week i'd bet hundreds on it

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

I hope not, it's almost as bland as Sam Smith and Stereophonics combined

avatar

Calum Pk7

I really hope not Jonas Blue or Shawn Mendes should be next no.1

C

Forget counting sheep to help you sleep just look at this to make you drop off

C

Then again their has been some top ten this though suppose

avatar

Painmix King

Agree, same tunes in the Top 12 as last week, just a few in a different order. Very surprised to find that Kaiser Chiefs "Parachute" not in the Top 100 considering the amount of airplay it's getting. Ooh! i forgot, they'#re a proper instrument laying band so they've no chance of cracking the singles chart have they

R

RIME

1

Radio play does not directly factor into the UK chart unlike the US chart.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

-1

The likes of DNCE, Adele, Olly Murs, 21P and Bastille (apparently) either play instruments or have proper instruments in their songs so your statement is not exactly accurate

avatar

Painmix King

0

Fair comment Synth, but you've got to admit they are in the minority of chart acts these days

avatar

Painmix King

-1

you misunderstood, i wasn't claiming that. Just that you woyld expect more people to download or stream the songs that get more airplay

R

RIME

2

I guess, but that isn't always the case. For example, here in the states, the country radio stations are ubiquitous (I think they have like 40% of the market share), but the tracks aren't bought nearly as much and are barely a blip in streaming. The tastes in the genre stations in particular (I imagine current rock radio is bigger in the UK?) don't always correspond with the tastes of the more active listener base.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

Yeah of course they are. Probably because proper instruments are pretty much buried in rock music

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

Yeah, because when the song comes out you already know it. Rush releases quite often climb as not many people have heard them initially.

However at the other end of the spectrum Sigala always has his songs played on the radio too long before release so people have already got bored of them when they finally come out.

avatar

Calum Pk7

E.g Easy Love would've spent way longer at no.1 had it been released earlier.

So here is my usual review of the UK Singles Chart today:
- Congratulations to: Major Lazer, Justin Bieber & MO for a 2nd week at #1 with 'Cold Water'. I'm starting to think that with the strong downloads & streams that this keeps getting, it could even last a month, possibly a few weeks, more at the top... which I wouldn't mind at all because of the fun & lively beat, so I guess it's become my new summer dance anthem. Though I don't really want to see another 'One Dance' run, where the song doesn't budge to the point that I get bored of it! :) LOL
- Speaking of JB, he may debut very high next week on the new DJ Snake song, 'Let Me Love You', as I can't really see anything at this moment that will stop 'Cold Water' at #1 other than that. I will say that I'm very pleased for Calum Scott as his cover of Robyn's 'Dancing On My Own' was able to climb to #2 today, but I only wish 'Perfect Strangers' by Jonas Blue got to the top as well, however it's very unlikely to happen now.
- As far as the Top 40 goes, there are only 2 new entries & neither of them are very high up at all. Although I could see both 'Closer' & 'All In My Head [Flex]' making climbs in the coming weeks, whereas I'm not so keen on the new Anne-Marie & 21 Pilots songs that took big jumps today. Meanwhile, there's a big tribute to Viola Beach over on the albums chart, as their self-titled album enters at #1.
