I Am A Stegosaurus
Am I the only one who noticed how fast Hello is dropping? It only fell out the top 40 about a month ago and look at it now...
SH
Scott Harris
Hoping "Can't Stop the Feeling" will go number 1 this week, it's such a fun and upbeat song! "This Is What You Came For" however sounds so generic and boring that it doesn't deserve the top spot.
I Am A Stegosaurus
I agree with you on point B. As much as it would be cool for Calvin Harris toget another number 1 it would be a kick in the if This is What You Came For hit number 1 considering Feel So Close didn't. TIWYCF is so bland, Calvin Harris is losing his style.
SH
Scott Harris
We're nearly halfway through the year and we only got 5 number 1s so far (Not counting "Love Yourself" from the previous year), how boring.
F
Formation
Congrats Drake! Holding the top spot for another week and beat that high debuted song!
P
Poes
is Purple rain's drop from 6 to 88 the biggest ever out of the Top 10?
I Am A Stegosaurus
Nah there's been songs that dropped out the entire charts from the top 10. I think last year's Voice winner did that.
I Am A Stegosaurus
Or you can search Wikipedia for List of UK Chart Statistics.
I Am A Stegosaurus
Now this is really me off. About TEN Beyonce songs in the charts ALL with no video. I would make it that album exclusive tracks are only allowed in if they have an official video.
F
Formation
Most of the songs came from digital sales and not streaming coz her songs are -dal exclusive! That's impressive but streaming views from YouTube and Vevo ruined it! The charts nowadays are a whole mess!
Dan Love
Am I the only one who noticed Purple Rain at number 88?
Painmix King
Pretty predictable, just like David Bowie's songs dropped like a stone
akiue
fact of the matter is, the charts have always been stagnant, whether or not streaming is involved. many songs have charted for over 70 weeks on the official charts
Painmix King
Thats not true, very rarely happened before streaming
akiue
uhh, what? no. the last time a song has stayed in the top 100 for at least 70 weeks was in 2014, the year streaming was added to the mix. there were only nine songs in 2015 that managed to stay in the charts for between 50 to 69 weeks, and some of them were actually international hits
Andrew Smith
Browse some charts from 1997-98 and you will notice that there are more NEW entries in a singles week chart then there are in a months or so charts now. Also very rarely does an artist have more than 1 song in the chart.
akiue
lmao people still care about this comment? y'all just need to get over it and learn that the charts have been somewhat slow at random moments.
Tina Cohen-Chang
Poor Beyoncé missing out on that top 10 :( Hope she gets it next week!
I hate that all the number ones are staying there for about 5 weeks every time, its boring, there are loads of other songs that deserve the spot. Lush Life, Cheap Thrills, Cake By The Ocean, Hold Up, etc. I could go on for ages, stupid streaming...
Dan Love
Then look at the sales chart.
F
Formation
The today's music charts are based on Quantity over Quality, which totally ! The Youtube, Vevo views shouldn't be counted to this streaming! This should be banned! The pointing system is so ridiculous! It's not reliable anymore! But it's still a success, that Hold Up have charted well unsuspectedly! Thanks to the good digital sales and not this stupid streaming!
Karl Macnaughton
The chart seems to go through phases. Personally, I like things to hang around a while; the 3-week runs of the #1, #37, oblivion kind of the 90s were FAR more annoying, as was a different number one every week in the 00s. I'm sure it will change again in time, though; it always does...
Prince Rogers Nelson
The UK charts are ghastly... At least The Emperor of Pop is cherished in the US
akiue
because the UK tends to grieve more over artists from their own country than artists from across the pond lol
I Am A Stegosaurus
ORLY? Look at the US. They pretty much only like Americans, Canadians and Australians in the charts.
akiue
uhh, yea really. and I am aware of the fact that the USA charts don't vary too much with nationality.
Painmix King
The USA charts always have been a farce, with radio airplay being included in the format
akiue
except the hot 100 is meant to measure overall popularity and legal consumption, not solely on sales. there was even a period where billboard outright banned entire songs from showing up if they were released to the radio only lol
Grace Sande
What are you talking about? A lot of his music has charted. His music has only dropped from the chart quickly because that's what happens when a legend passes away-they're music charts for one or two weeks then it drops like a stone because people get over it-the same thing happened to David Bowie.

Official drake chart

More like official drake-beyonce chart.

I just came here to find Little Mix.. I found Hair (fave) and Secret Love Song (very sad song)
SF
Simon Flynn
Why bother to have a singles chart though, why do they ignore figures from the sales chart. Songs have got to no 45 in sales chart but 120 in the streamed chart, fine but when it comes to logging the positions in a discography you should be able to quote the higher position as it reached that in the official singles sales chart.
Sakgra
things are going difficult for big names - Pink only 32!Rihanna kiss it only 51?? thats why she reconnected with C.Harris??and Beyonce struggling to make a top10 hit(her last drunk in love @ no9).i wondering about GAGA comeback and Britney if they gonna make it to chart.Whats going on with the charts?
F
Formation
No, her last top ten song was Runnin (Lose it All) with Naughty Boy and Benjamin from 2015! No 4 peaked!
Sakgra
yeah sure...collaboration with 2 other artists it wasnt her personal hit.if i release with 3 artists a single mabe i will go to no1 lol
I Am A Stegosaurus
Yeah, but if Beyonce wasn't in Runnin' it probably wouldn't have been very big at all
J
Joel
So I understand that Drake is literally taking over the charts right now, but can we acknowledge that Queen B has 11 SONGS on this chart, and only based on her new album LEMONADE!!!! - SO PROUD OF HER!!
Dan Love
Wait...is Lean On actually going to drop out?
D
Diego
Probably in a couple of weeks, the song that I really don't want to drop out is shut up and dance, it's no.100.
SF
Simon Flynn
Make the sales chart the proper chart and the current pro streaming one the secondary chart as its still mostly older people are interested, my 20 yr old doesn't care about what position a song is in the chart
Dan Love
Streaming may have a negative impact on the charts but it's what everyone's using now.
R
Ronnie
RIHANNA HAS SIX SONGS ON THIS CHART- BOOM!!!
SF
Simon Flynn
16 songs by drake and 11 by Beyoncé, a quarter of the chart by 2 artists, Can't you see how pointless the top 100 is. The sales chart should be the main chart and not this one.
J
Jlou
Completely agree. The sales chart is the one I go to first now. Including streaming has in my opinion ruined the chart. It's made it so stagnant and almost impossible for artists who aren't played to death on on video channels/commercial radio etc. to break into the charts.
Dan Love
It reflects buying habits. If everyone is streaming Beyonce then Beyonce is popular.
akiue
no, this is called when big artists release albums. this has nothing to do with streaming lmao
Karl Macnaughton
Unless Spotify is an exception, none of those Beyoncé songs seem to be available for streaming. Or was it a two week release only type thing? (I'm a few weeks behind, chartwise!)
SF
Simon Flynn
Not sure I don't stream I buy
Karl Macnaughton
What I mean is, if they're not available for streaming, then akiue's theory that it's 'when big artists release albums', rather than streaming, that has filled the charts with Beyoncé & Drake is probably right. I'd tend to agree because this has happened ever since all tracks were permitted in the chart (via purchased downloads), rather than record companies deciding which tracks we should be buying and listening to most by 'releasing' them.
Painmix King
Work this one out, Burn The Witch by Radiohead, No.85 in the chart above, yet No.27 in the Sales Chart
SF
Simon Flynn
If you are a white artist either over the age of 25 or not making urban music forget it you won't chart although Coldplay get let in every now and then. Most serious artists of any race or musical genre don't care about this pointless once great institution.
S
Sachin
It was released late in the week and didn't have a full week's of sales to register higher.
Having said that, Radiohead haven't had much of a presence on the singles chart for almost 15 years. They're now what the industry like to call "legacy" or "nostalgic" acts and only relevant to their base of loyal, fans.
Painmix King
No, you've mis read the post. The sales chart has it at 27, and the chart that includes streaming is at 85
LE
Lee Evans
Totally agree with you Simon. The charts are a total sham now. Virtually no artists of any credibility rank any more. But even if the likes of Queen, Rolling Stones, Iron Maiden, Bon Jovi, Guns n' Roses, Alice Cooper, Smiths, etc were around now, they still wouldn't chart. Just dominated by a load of disco-based repetitive nonsense...
I Am A Stegosaurus
Seems fairly accurate TBH. That's why Silento was a thing.
Painmix King
So 15 new entries in the Top 100 and all but 3 belong to Drake. The charts get more farcical each week
Painmix King
And only 2 of his songs in the Sales Chart. Surely The Sales Top 100 should be the priority chart that gets played on the radio
S
Sachin
The British record industry clearly see streaming as the future which may explain why it's given such heavy weighting in the chart to the detriment of sales.
D
Diego
16 songs by drake!
Marc Gerhards
17 if you count Rihanna feat. Drake
D
Diego
Oh yeah
Dan Love
Thank god only 3 of them are in the top 40.
Piran
Congratulations to Drake for a fourth week at #1 on the singles chart with 'One Dance' and a #1 album with 'Views' today. He's the first artist since Sam Smith (in May 2014) to earn this kind of chart double. Also congratulations to Calvin Harris & Rihanna on 'This Is What You Came For', this week's highest new entry; I would like to see Calvin get his 8th Official UK #1 single next Friday. I also love the new Justin Timberlake single, 'Can't Stop The Feeling' and hope that debuts high next week too. Congratulations to Galantis on their third Top 10 single too with 'No Money'. :)
Johnny McVey
May 2015, actually
Piran
No I'm sure it was May 2014 because 'Stay With Me' got to #1 in the same week that 'In The Lonely Hour' did.
I Am A Stegosaurus
No Johnny is right. Lay Me Down and In The Lonely Hour were also number 1 simultaneously in 2015. But I think that was April, not May.
Piran
Yeah I've just checked the archive and that is right. It was actually at the end of March but 'Lay Me Down' was a #1 at the same time as 'In The Lonely Hour' (sorry about that). I didn't realise that 'In The Lonely Hour' was still a #1 album like 10 months after release... :) lol
Anyway what Drake has done on the official charts is very impressive!
P
PMan
Pretty sure celine Dion achieved this way back in 1995
Piran
Yes she did. Around Jan/Feb 1995, 'Think Twice' was the #1 single & 'The Colour Of My Love' was the #1 album. :)
P
PMan
Amazing music!
