I took a pill in Ibiza is a sleeper hit and what an ironic song to get a hit with a song all about a man singing about how he is a washed up pop star with a forgotten single and the song gets to number one probably the biggest comeback of an artist this year and I'm glad to see it has stayed another week at the top you need to follow up with a studio album quickly posner to stand a chance of success again in music

Your wrong, it has been bought enough, they compile the charts wrongly.

SF

You are quite right, there albums will do well. The charts are boring and the singles chart is totally pointless now, with tons of songs spending almost 2 years in the top 100, at least Craig David is doing well.

PS

The charts are so irrelevant these days, proven by the fact that PSB is the number 1 selling single in physical sales but doesn't chart.yes,it is largely the fault of radio 1 which is a kindergarten radio station.take comfort in the fact that history will barely remember most of their 'cool' chart acts!

Miike Snow with Genghis Khan for number 1!

Really wish that Genghis Khan from the album iii was a number 1 single! No joke, really needs to be! Personally, people really need to listen to and buy this single more! Already Number.1 in the Topsify Alternative Top 40, just needs to get into number 1 in the official single charts!

I'm surprised Primal Scream & Sky Ferreira - Where The Light Gets In has not charted... Beats most of the in the current chart system.. Oh well I can only assume that I am amongst a minority that purvey quality music ;)

Watch Terra Naomi's inspirational Help You Fly on YouTube and then consider visiting Indiegogo to support her new album.

Check out Claire Maguire with Elizabeth Taylor from her new album Stranger Things Have Happened, released in May. Both deserve to be Number One.

Mr Brightside still remains in the charts which is somewhat amazing considering it is 10 years older than any other track in the charts.

I Am A Stegosaurus

Yeah but the way you said 'remains' makes it seem like you're unaware it re-entered last week.

B

I am aware it has dropped out, but it always seems to be around the top 100, either on the official charts or individual companies (iTunes, Spotify etc) charts. It was recently said in the Mr Brightside is one of the most popular songs of all time on Spotify, it is never right at the top but is consistently well within the top 100 and outlasts tracks that may peak much higher but eventually drop down.

That's true it's on the iTunes chart all the time

WTF is going on? Pet Shop Boys - The Pop Kids, All Saints - One Woman Man & Lawson ALL FAIL to make even the TOP 100 !!!! It has to be down to the fact that Radio 1 aren't playing them and DO NOT SUPPORT old 80s and 90s acts trying to make comebacks. Sigala was on course and ahead at one point to take the Number 1 .......What happenned?

Thought PSB was gonna be top 10

boycottage to Radio 1!!

It is a bit disappointing. Probably because of streaming being incorporated into the charts. Streaming allows old songs to still be on the charts weeks, even months after they've died down.
Look on the bright side, though, ignoring streams and going only by sales, Pet Shop Boys and All Saints have both entered the top 100! Check out the sales chart:
http://www.officialcharts.com/charts/singles-sales-chart/
Pet Shop Boys is #44 and All Saints is #89. And, Say You Do is #1!
Perhaps the OCC should do what the U.S. Billboard charts did recently--lower the importance of streams and put the favor more in sales. This would make the charts move quicker and allow songs like the Pet Shop Boys' new song to at least chart somewhere in the top 100.

It needs to be bought enough to make the top 100, it just hasn't been bought enough yet. This really isn't chosen by Radio 1

I agree, Primal Scream's new single featuring Sky Ferreira has not charted either... Does make me wonder if people listen to quality any more...

Then how the charts are done are not accurate and older people are more likely to buy than stream. But when it comes to cataloging chart positions reached, plain and simple take the highest position from the 2 charts.

Sales chart should be the main chart. Streaming should never have become part of the charts.

avatar

Simeon Davenport

1

I've said this before: Streaming is incorporated because it's the main way to see what music is more popular. Considering buying singles is becoming obsolete and will probably be completely nonexistent within like 5 years, streaming is used to see what songs are most popular. Like it or not, it's part of the charts and that's not going to change. You are always welcome to check the sales chart if you want though.

avatar

Dan Love

0

Really? In my opinion, the sales chart shows what's popular better than the main chart. This chart still has Ed Sheeran roaming around. Higher up, we have Pillowtalk, Light It Up, Stitches, etc. all refusing to budge from their high positions even though they're not even really popular anymore. In the sales chart, Desire re-release has so far reached 28. In this chart, Desire re-release has only reached 50 so far. Due to streaming, the new songs aren't reaching the chart fame that they should be reaching.

Dan Love

In the sales chart Pet Shop Boys are at 44 and All Saints are at 84 and 89.
In the Physical Singles chart PSB are at number 1.
In the top 100 there are not many new entries because streaming has helped a lot of songs stay in the chart despite losing their popularity.

I thought "Say You Do" would peak a lot higher. I thought it was a good candidate for #1 this week actually. I guess not. It's #1 on the sales chart though.

R

RIME

Problem with the Update chart is that a debut usually performs best the closer to its launch it is. Thus, since the Update only covers the first 4 days of a tracking week (and thus Say You Do led), the remaining 3 days saw it get proportionally fewer sales to the more stable incumbents.

anyways, congrats to Mike Posner who seems like a really cool guy

Sigala's new song is a great Spring anthem. Meghan Trainor's No is a bit clichéd it doesn't deserve recognition. Sia's cheap thrills with Sean Paul is a really good song.
