Now that the new, sooooo great, Pet Shop Boys single, "The Pop Kids", is out you just make sure you UK people that it will chart as high as possible on the singles chart!!! It is one of the best tracks they have released in ages!!!
James England
Being brutally honest, is there any top 100 song (new song, not some old song streamed enough times) as good as this song:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSo5XUWzXrk
The melody is brilliant. Sure, it's a bit old fashioned but the melody - verse/chorus/backing - is wonderful. That is the magic of pop music. Where has all the magic gone? Something to inspire you!
We live in a time when a dubious reality tv host - Donald Trump - may become the next President of the USA! We have violent films like Deadpool mega-popular.The new Star Wars film - The Force Awakens - was a soulless rip off of the original SW film. Had zero new ideas. I know I am going off topic a bit but I feel the chart is indicative of a world that has lost something. We have awful stuff like Rhianna's music polluting the charts. Meh. Something has gone wrong with modern pop culture and modern life in general.
Rohan Kakar
sorry, but I realy don't like 7 years, the charts have been so dead at the moment. I would love to see Kendrick and his 'untitled tracks' get to the top 20 but I just don't think people will like it because the don't feature a man either sobbing about family life or pressing buttons. I really rate the 1975 and would think their albums would bigger and I haven't seen zayns 2 new tracks rise higher of be more successful than Pillowtalk, but I love his new approach!
I Am A Stegosaurus
'I just don't think people will like it because the don't feature a man either sobbing about family life or pressing buttons.'
Genius quote that, even if I don't like Kendrick Lamar.
Rohan Kakar
okay then!!!! is that good or bad?
I Am A Stegosaurus
Good, I hate 7 Years and feel it's only getting credit out of as you said, 'a man sobbing about family life'.
James England
Another exciting top 40 with huge new entries! I count at least...
Er oops.. oh. None.
Meh. Whoever invented streaming - thanks for nothing! The only stream I wanna know about is the one you fish in!
Simeon Davenport
The Right Song hit the top 40 this week.
You're welcome.
I Am A Stegosaurus
Maybe he means ones that were new in the overall top 100 and debuted in the top 40 (so not climbers into the top 40) but let's hope not because these stream-bashers seem to have really high expectations.
I Am A Stegosaurus
I'm glad The Right Song finally charted in the 40. It's the only new entry in there, surprise surprise!
I Am A Stegosaurus
7 Years is at 1 again which shows the charts are definitely fixed.
R
RIME
No, there are numbers to back this up.
7 Years
91k aggregate (a decline, but still strong)
46k from raw sales (#1 on that metric)
45k from stream equivalents (#1 on that metric)
I Took a Pill in Ibiza
69k aggregate (As they said in their article, around a 20k gap to #1)
Work
66k aggregate (It lost a quarter of its momentum, which seems to match pace across the globe according to estimates)
Note that though I don't have the metrics for #2 and 3, they are getting equivalent sales from streams as well, with Work in particular benefiting from it.
Simeon Davenport
I can't believe how well "7 Years" is doing. 5 weeks at #1, wow! It's like "Uptown Funk!"
I wonder what the next #1 after it will be. Mike Posner is a good candidate considering he's just behind Lukas Graham on sales and streams. Sigala's "Say You Do" hasn't even come out for sale yet, and it's already at #52 thanks to streams. It's gonna skyrocket in sales when it's officially released and it is also a good candidate for next #1. I thought "Work" would hit #1, but it looks like Lukas Graham is too powerful.
R
RIME
Work was too front-loaded for that to happen. With new releases taking the spotlight, it had to have made its way in the past 2 weeks, but even then 7 Years had an advantage.
Sim
to be honest, I don't really see the next no.1. once 7 years loses momentum, there will probably be an easy number 1 to a small front loaded single or a peak week for some of the newer songs (5H or Mike). then maybe the new years & years single? It would also be easy to note, that Selena Gomez (Hands To Myself) seems to be rapidly climbing the charts in the last couple of weeks, despite having no top 20 hit from Revival - unlikely, but possible?
Or Shawn's other US hit (not as good, but the uk charts - who knows?) 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' which has randomly begun climbing iTunes despite no promotion anywhere.
Or even a Jess Glynne no.1... If they decide to promo it. Or James Bay's new single. Not great, to be honest, but good enough.
Who knows. What do you think? Any big hits due to be out soon? idk tbh.
I Am A Stegosaurus
Come And Get It by Selena Gomez hit #7, so she has had a top 20 before. But yeah, I pretty much agree.
Sim
sorry, yeah haha. I meant in this album. Sorry haha
I Am A Stegosaurus
Okay then xD
Richard Stegman Jr.
Lukas Graham just reached #9 in the USA on the Hot 100 singles chart in only seven weeks. If it doesn't go to #1 then it will definitely reach the top 5. I can't remember the last Danish act who did that.
Abid Farid
Aqua perhaps?
Richard Stegman Jr.
Aqua's "Barbie Girl" peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was their only US top 20 single.

What a singer, what a song!
Rhys Daley
A very big congratulations to Lukas Graham! Alan Walker's Faded is a strong candidate for a future Number 1, as it's dominating Europe and is currently enjoying its thirteenth week at Number 1 in Norway. Also, Sigala's Say You Do lands at 53 on streams alone. The full release will see it rocket up. If anyone can take Lukas Graham down, it'll be him or Mike Posner.
R
RIME
When was the last #1 that had a gradual ascent of 10+ weeks to the top? (and no, Stitches doesn't count because that surged from its actual single release, I think) Not saying Faded can't, but it seems to be that #1s tend to be zippers (as in, once they get the jolt of a single push, they zip to #1 within the month) or front-loaders (pre-sales and launch day hype is large enough to start on top).
Sim
Stitches was released as a single on May 5th back in 2015. lol. it was looking to peak at around low 70s before it took off - it was the same in the USA too, before. it was pushed by teenage streams from America over to here. which in turn made it a hit. Stitches was just a weird break out song. Well deserved, though.
Rhys Daley
Faded has been released everywhere. It gained momentum in Germany and is now at #1. Countries are falling like dominoes, and France is the latest to fall. I'm not ruling it out.
SH
Scott Harris
"7 Years" has been dethroned from the Scottish chart which means its sales are dropping, so we might get a new UK number 1 soon, hopefully it'll be Meghan Trainor!
I Am A Stegosaurus
Hopefully not. That dumb sexist does not need to be at the top again.7 Years must definitely drop soon though.
