It seems quite logical to leave off the "The" when the artist name is plural. What is odd, is to put, say "Jam" instead of "The Jam".

Made me smile. You must be new here. There are thousands of entries where 'THE' is not used by OCC. Also amusing that you would choose The Wombles when there are several others in this chart alone. But you are, of course, correct. OCC seem to be of the opinion that if there is a 'y' in the current day, then it's near enough.
