How can the number 1 song that week also be number 33..? (this was the week I was born, hence the specific search)

This was the first chart I actually wrote down (just the top 10) and I was only 12. I couldn't understand why Alan Freeman didn't play the number one (of course it was banned) so I assumed I'd made a mistake somehow or Bobbie Gentry was number one - we all know now what actually happened. It wasn't until Frankie Goes To Hollywood did the same in 1984 unless this time I really have made an error ...

Fontana, who released the version at no.33 had withdrawn it due to controversy.

The exact same version was picked up by Major Minor label, which is the version at no.1

It's a very rare occurrence. It was banned from airplay by the BBC and many other stations around the world due to the same controversy that had Fontana withdraw it.

Worth noting though - the same backing track was in the chart 3 times in the same week as Love at First Sight by Sounds Nice was at no.22
