You know whatā€™s devastating about the charts in 2020? (theyā€™re all Anne-Marie related).

Anne-Marie drops a song with an artist who has one of the biggest songs this year (Say So) and itā€™s way better than Birthday, yet it barely scrapes the Top 75.

She has a song out called ā€œHerā€ which is about her love for her own mother (light 9/10) and it fails to chart.

Back in February, she put out one of the most obnoxious, gross-out, I-donā€™t-give-one songs of all time and... it somehow charts!!

Iā€™m just so confused... :/

avatar

Piran

1

Then again, she was part of a song that celebrated mothers back in 2016, which went on to spend nine consecutive weeks at #1 & became the Christmas #1 of that year! :)

avatar

šŸ§” oliviasnoodles šŸœ

1

Yes, I remember that. It led the way into 2017, didnā€™t it?

I thought the song was great too, got a bouncy beat in it, but the Sean Paul adlibs were unnecessary. Definitely a solid 8/10!

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I think it did! :)

Oh yeah, Sean Paul wasn't the best fit for that kind of song, but his part was still good! I'd agree with your rating for it.

avatar

Piran

1

Of course, after 'Rockabye' fell from #1, a certain artist would come in & dominate the entire year! ;)

avatar

šŸ§” oliviasnoodles šŸœ

1

Ed Sheeran, of course. By some time, I had had enough of him lol. He ruled that year! :P

avatar

Piran

1

Haha, he's kind of the reason we have both the chart rules that we do! :P

I'm glad he dominated 2017 though! I saw him live in Birmingham that April (which I really enjoyed) & he brought us the 10/10 smash that was 'Castle On The Hill' a few weeks beforehand.

avatar

Piran

1

Mate, Juice WRLD has FIVE songs inside the Hot 100's Top 10! :O

I paid attention to Chart Data!! :D

HIGHLIGHTS:
- Head & Heart is edging ever closer to the number 1 spot and while I am questioning how many replays it will get from me by the end of the year, I hope it pulls out in front.
- Dancing In The Moonlight continues to rise! Yay!
- Whats Poppin continues to gain.
- Killa Killa by KSI is gonna be rebounding! Thanks so much, official video! šŸ˜Š

LOWLIGHTS:
- Lifeā€™s A Mess took a drop.
- Savage is on ACR! We ready for some boos on Friday, because itā€™s out the top 40! šŸ˜±
- Blinding Lights is rebounding! Pretty sure everyone in the UK has streamed and bought it at this point.
- This is my fault, but I havenā€™t heard the DJ Khaled songs yet.

The Khaled songs are šŸ¤¢ also 'like That' reenters too!

avatar

Piran

2

"I am questioning how many replays it will get from me by the end of the year."

Meanwhile, it's getting around 35 streams from me every day! :P

avatar

new acc - disqus.com/afrog69

1

I haven't listened to it that much since week 1 as after 2 months of a lot of listening to 'Sorry' and 'Lonely' I still liked them, but I couldn't listen to them. Only recently has it seen a return

avatar

Piran

1

Haha, well for context, 'Looking For Me' is my next most streamed song with around 10 plays per day! ;)

avatar

new acc - disqus.com/afrog69

1

Some songs I replay all the time and never get bored of, this is one :D

avatar

Piran

1

Haha, same here! :D

avatar

šŸ§” oliviasnoodles šŸœ

2

Your obsession for that is the same obsession I have for Surrender. I overplayed it so much today. Right now, itā€™s competition for my year-end results are Halseyā€™s ā€œYou Should Be Sadā€ and Future & Drakeā€™s ā€œLife Is Goodā€ (I think the latterā€™s already guaranteed the winner lol).

avatar

Piran

2

Looks like we've both found songs that could be our Song Of The Summer then! ;)

Obviously, we'll see have to see if 'Head & Heart' can avoid being frontloaded for me, but if it does last beyond the hype, it really could go up against 'Blinding Lights' & 'Body Back' for my favourite hit of 2020 with time.

avatar

Piran

1

Also, I've got a bit of a surprise planned for tonight's Headline Planet article! ;)

avatar

šŸ§” oliviasnoodles šŸœ

2

Ooh, I like surprises! ;)

avatar

Piran

1

I'm not sure it'll become a permanent thing, but I think it'll be a cool one-off activity! ;)

avatar

new acc - disqus.com/afrog69

1

Hey does anyone know what the gap is between no 1 and 2?

avatar

Piran

1

According to BuzzJack, 'Savage Love' is currently on 22.3k combined chart sales, while 'Head & Heart' has 20.9k... so that would be a 1.4k difference for today! :)

avatar

new acc - disqus.com/afrog69

1

I think I'm going to have many songs of the summer - 'Head & Heart', 'WHATS POPPIN', 'Fake Friends', 'Looking For Me', 'Blueberry Faygo' and 'ily'. I would say 'Celebration Station', and 'Surrender' but they're not Summery lol, and 'Dancing In The Moonlight' isn't top 50 yet. My song of the year will likely be 'Roses (Imanbek Remix)' followed by 'Pump It Up', 'Flowers', 'Life Is Good', 'Sunday Best'.

avatar

Piran

0

Haha, it looks like my three contenders will all be EDM songs, but no, 'Head & Heart' has an insane lead so far! :P

Honestly, if that song does to go to #1 on Friday, it'll make most the other chart-toppers so far in 2020 look lame, haha.

MY TOP 10 UPDATE:

avatar

Piran

1

I either like or love every song in the Top 10 again, haha! :D

avatar

new acc - disqus.com/afrog69

1

Thanks, Topic returns to the top 10 because I'm trying to listen to it 24/7 so it has less of an ACR drop! Also 'Rover' climbs!

avatar

Piran

1

If it's still at #14, then that's not much of an ACR drop at all! :D

avatar

new acc - disqus.com/afrog69

1

I'm surprised after 'Rover''s drop, there must have been a big gap between them!

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, that or the fact that 'Rover' was supported more by streaming! :P

Remember, ACR only affects streaming, so a song won't fall as far if it's getting most of its consumption from downloads.

avatar

new acc - disqus.com/afrog69

1

Aaaaah... That's why 'blinding Lights' is set for the top 10!

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, along with the radio not being able to get over it, haha! :P

avatar

new acc - disqus.com/afrog69

1

It also means its dangerous for a song to strongly rely on streaming šŸ˜¬

avatar

Piran

1

Not before 10 weeks, but it would certainly appear that way after that time! :O

avatar

Geoffrey Etoru

-1

True but if you look at it the songs that rely on streaming are mainly rap songs that peak within the first few weeks so by the time acr hits, its not going too make much of an impact anyway

avatar

new acc - disqus.com/afrog69

0

Plus most UK rap songs enter lower down and fall down the chart quickly - 'Circles', 'Part Of The Plan'... the only exeption is 'Burning' but that took big drops. I'm also surprised 'I Don't Know' held up.

avatar

new acc - disqus.com/afrog69

1

'Like That' and 'Killa Killa' reenter!

avatar

Piran

6

'Hallucinate's finally set to enter the chart!!! :D

avatar

new acc - disqus.com/afrog69

1

'Physical' out

avatar

Piran

2

That's the bad news, but hey, at least it had a good run! :)

avatar

Brandon Mwinga

2

Don't Need Love & Savage going on ACR .
Stuck with U out of top 50 from #23 last week
Hallucinate could enter top 40 in the coming weeks!

ANNE MARIE & Doja Cat could pick up too I'm sure

avatar

Piran

2

I'm surprised 'To Be Young' is debuting so low, but I think it'll make a slow climb over the next few weeks.

Yeah, we're losing a lot of good songs to ACR this week, but at least 'Hallucinate' could finally make its long overdue entrance! :)

avatar

Brandon Mwinga

1

I don't think I will ever tired of this album

avatar

Rector

1

Fun fact: Physical is actually still selling more while on ACR than Hallucinate is on SCR. It was her label that asked the OCC to "star out" the former to let the latter chart!

avatar

Niall Cunniffe

1

I thought only 3 x tracks per album could chart?

avatar

Piran

0

I think it's replacing 'Physical'.

avatar

Brandon Mwinga

1

Heres Sa Top 40 https:// top40sa.co.za/chart947

avatar

Piran

1

I haven't heard the Lee Cole one, but I love that Lady Gaga has two songs in the Top 10, including #1! :D

avatar

Brandon Mwinga

1

I thought you off today hahaha how are you

avatar

Piran

1

I'm on for a little bit, because we reached 1000 comments on an OCC page for the first time ever! :D

avatar

Brandon Mwinga

1

He sounds like Lewis Capaldi! he's our local lewis haha it's great song please listen to it please!
I have one more song for suggestion please please let me know what you think of South Africa EDM it's called Dance On my own by Amy jones ft WRld Cls

avatar

Piran

1

Haha, the name definitely sounded unfamiliar, but I'll give his music a listen later on! :)

avatar

Piran

0

Really? So if her label didn't make that request, 'Hallucinate' wouldn't be here?! :O

avatar

Piran

1

Haha, outside of three of the tracks ('Good In Bed', 'Boys Will Be Boys' & 'Future Nostalgia'), I don't think I will either! :P

avatar

Brandon Mwinga

1

I actually didnt add them on my playlist except which was already there Future Nostalgia the least played the first two i agree!
I am sure it will get nominees on Grammy Awards & British Album of the year

avatar

Brandon Mwinga

2

Good news!
Taylor Swift has a suprise album coming out tomorrow! !!Folklore
I just saw the post within "20 minutes of announcement "

avatar

Piran

1

I'm so excited!!! :D

I'm not sure if it'll be your "style" (pun intended), as it appears she might be going back to her roots on this album, but I hope you like it anyway.

avatar

Piran

1

It'll clear up as next year's BRIT Awards for sure & I hope it can win a Grammy too (or at least get nominated!). :)

avatar

Brandon Mwinga

1

I do listen to folk music this one sounds alternative rock ,indie folk, electro-folk chamber pop!
Previous 3 albums before were country pop like &RED album sounded in between pop& country not really country but more of pop side from1989-Reputation sounded synth pop /electro /dance-pop & Lover sounded synthpop too but all of them in common they are adult contemporary!
I will give this one a chance but I always adore her writing skills in all albums. I've always had soft spot for Folk music Birdy songs I fell with her, George Ezra sound!
In south africa we have Majozi very cool electro folk
i still listen to Ed sheeran his first music made me like folk
You see that Ed Sheeran & Taylor Swift very soft rock
.Although Echosmith is close to their sound that's why I adore Echosmith too

avatar

Brandon Mwinga

1

7/10 overall rating i like the fact that she is honest in writing

https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/96a762e875829982d906670b8c8e269a06af83a346a36b4db0f8784c58007ccb.png

avatar

Brandon Mwinga

1

it's my first time getting her as a whole album

avatar

Piran

0

Oh wow, what are your favourite tracks from it then? :)

avatar

Piran

1

That's a good rating! Yeah, the songwriting is really smart & detailed as you said. :)

avatar

Piran

1

Echosmith are so underrated! 'Lonely Generation' is still among one of the best albums of 2020 so far. :)

Yeah, all the 'Folklore' tracks should be eligible for the Hot Rock/Alternative Songs chart, or at least receive a lot of Pop & AC airplay!

avatar

Brandon Mwinga

1

My favourites
Peace 9/10
Exile 8/10
Cardigan 7/10
the last great american dynasty 7/10
.I would say it's one of the albums to play without skipping
My chart is out
BeckyHill rebounds to number 1 for a third week
With Top 3 exchanging roles Head & Heart falls to #2
Brandy Babymama ft Chance falls #3
With Brandys album coming out this week she might return to number 1
please check out will check yours too
http://crownnote.com/charts/brandyy/brandons-top-60-8

avatar

Piran

1

'Peace' was actually my least favourite track from the album, but I love all the other Taylor songs here! :D

I'll comment on your new chart a bit later mate.

avatar

Brandon Mwinga

1

ok done with yours!

avatar

Piran

1

Nice! I'll be on Crown Note after the chart update in a few minutes. :)

avatar

Piran

4

I adore 'Head & Heart' moving closer to #1, but I'm not really too hyped about DJ Khaled with multiple songs in the Top 10 unfortunately.

I love that 'Dancing In The Moonlight' & 'This City' are both approaching the region though! :)

avatar

new acc - disqus.com/afrog69

2

DJ Khaled's songs are terrible. Becky Hill, Jack Harlow, PS1 and Niko B climb! yesss!

R

Riley

2

Didnā€™t expect this city to climb! Hoping blinding lights can get back to the top 10!

avatar

new acc - disqus.com/afrog69

1

Hey 'Hallucinate'!

avatar

Piran

1

Just mentioned that in another comment, haha! ;)

avatar

Piran

2

Looks like 'Fake Friends' might be able to move into the Top 30 after all, as it's at #31 on today's update! ;)

avatar

new acc - disqus.com/afrog69

1

future top 5 for sure!

avatar

Piran

1

I'm liking a lot of those artists gaining too! :)

avatar

Piran

1

You think it'll go that high?! :O

I'll just be happy if it makes the Top 20, haha.

R

Riley

2

Hopefully it can end up pushing towards top 20! But fingers crossed for top 30! That and heaven on my mind gaining momentum :)

avatar

Piran

1

Both songs are heading in the right direction! ;)

Also, this song really needs to make the Top 40 soon...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkVwq7s8FhI

avatar

new acc - disqus.com/afrog69

1

Could do! I didn't expect 'ROCKSTAR' or 'Savage Love' to go to no 1, or 'Flowers' to stick around for that long! And yes Diplo needs to get to the top 40! I don't think it'll go top 5, but top 40 defo :D

avatar

new acc - disqus.com/afrog69

1

Yea, I thought Niko B as gone after last week :(

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah, BuzzJack's update has him potentially returning to the Top 40 on Friday, along with 'Perfect' coming back again! :P

avatar

Piran

0

It would appear that 'Fake Friends' might climb at least nine places in the next chart, so it certainly has a lot of momentum behind it! :D

Capital FM have already added 'Looking For Me' to their playlists, so let's hope it'll also make a crossover to Radio 1 over the summer.

R

Riley

2

This cityā€™s climb is surprising!

avatar

new acc - disqus.com/afrog69

2

It and 'Flowers' have stuck around for some time.

R

Riley

2

They have, this city is stuck at 18! Flowers still hanging around Iā€™m happy with!

same :)

Topic ft A7S, Megan Thee Stallion, 220 KID & GRACEY and HOSH & 1979 set for ACR! There must be a big gap between 15 - 4 seen as Topic only drops 9 places! Hope it continues like that!

R

Riley

2

Savage and donā€™t need love falling out the top 40 is why acr needs to go. Not a true reflection of there places at all :(((
