Interesting that CCR's Woodstock album didn't make it into the Top 100.
Gavin Iball
26 Greatest Hits compilations in the top 100
Damián
Wow! Kylie's the best one!
Ronald van Veen
I'm afraid she isn't....
#13 Elton John - Diamonds
#14 Fleetwood Mac - 50 Years - Don't Stop
Damián
It was #1. I mean it's the best compilation of the whole chart
Jamie Crampton
Great to see Volbeat in the top 10, hopefully next week Slipknot will boot that dreadful Sheeran off number 1, terrible album.
crunch2k
I bet you never even listened to it
thierry henon
Totally agree with you Jamie... i mean i really like his first 2 albums...but that one: no6 collaborations is just awful!!
JS
John Smith
… and Madonna and Kylie still both look great considering their ages. I'm that age and unfortunately don't look that good especially after a rough night. I wonder if Ed will still be going at 50?
A
addickted2hcharlton
Yeah but will e look as good as wot them two do.
Ronald van Veen
Kylie at #21!!!
What an incredible achievement!
She sure is the true Queen of Pop!
thierry henon
Totally agree with you...Even though she started her music career a few years after Madonna...Nowadays Kylie is selling more records and still getting number one albums..but i like them both equally!
P
Penny
Sorry, but Kylie is 51 now and when Madonna was in her early 50's she released her album "Hard Candy" which topped the charts in 37 countries and her single "4 Minutes" which was number 1 in 21 countries. So Madonna was way more sucessful in her early 50's then Kylie. And Madonna is 60 now and still release number 1 albums... so today, both are sucessful. :)
Ronald van Veen
You've got a point here even though I am obviously more of a Kylie fan... ;-)
Ronald van Veen
And I have to admit that Kylie is only selling well in the UK and Australia. In the rest of the world she scores less. But still.... I am a Kylie fan as you'd already guessed.... ;-)
thierry henon
She used to be big in France in the 80's but since the French "awful" rap is taking over..No chance for other talented singer!!
Ronald van Veen
I'm glad Mylène Farmer is still big in France. Not as big in sales as she used to be but still the biggest singer in France I guess.
thierry henon
Yes she is the biggest female singer in France for the last 30 years...she is very talented and reinvents herself often...her videos are amazing...sales from CDs have dropped massively over the last 15 years in France...
Ronald van Veen
Guess that is why she is releasing a lot of her older work on vinyl nowadays....
thierry henon
You are right Ronald..Do have a listen to "DESENCHANTEE" on youtube...definitely the best song she ever released and the video is just a masterpiece!
Ronald van Veen
An absolute masterpiece indeed with one of the most stunning videos ever! I saw her live in Brussels in 2013 and was absolutely blown away by Mylène... What an incredible artist she is!
thierry henon
i highly recommend as well POINT DE SUTURE...it is definitely my favourite album of hers which includes 4 France number 1 single!!
Damián
Incredible achievement for a GH album with really no promotion! This is insane, Kylie still rules pop!
Damián
Totally agree! She's overpassed Madonna in sales lately
Sparky Nolan
No, she hasn't. Nowhere near Madonna. Step Back in Time: 129,999 downloads sold. Madame X: 355,623 downloads.
Sparky Nolan
No, she hasn't. Nowhere near Madonna. Step Back in Time: 129,999 downloads sold. Madame X: 355,623 downloads sold.
P
Penny
Kylie never ruled and will never rule pop. 😅
Damián
And you compare a new studio album with a 5 years hiatus vs a GH compilation with no promo even? Having this, Madame X seems as real flop
Damián
A 32 years career in pop full of hits albums and singles and you say she never ruled pop??? Start reading pop history dear Penny
Ronald van Veen
Superb album indeed! C'est Dans L'Air and Sextonik are my faves from that album.
Ronald van Veen
How about physical sales? You know them as well?
thierry henon
"C'est dans l'air" is as well my favourite song from the album!! If you check as well her "monkey me" album...have a listen to "TU NE LE DIS PAS" and "ICI BAS"..2 amazing songs...anyway she is an amazing singer..never understood the reason why she never released any album in English as she is fluent in that language...enjoy these 2 songs and do let me know if you like them...have a great day!!
Sparky Nolan
They are harder as record companies are notoriously bad at counting but as they are both "legacy artists" which is a horrible phrase, I would imagine that they are significant.
Sparky Nolan
Yes, Madonna has been flopping for 35 years. Funny that.........
Ronald van Veen
I have that album and really really like those 2 songs. Should have been singles, she did not choose the right ones this time... I also do not know why she never released a full album in English. Maybe she expresses herself better in French. Her lyrics are so difficult sometimes, my basic French just is not enough.... too many words that are not commonly used in the French language, quite poetric.... but beautiful!
Ronald van Veen
Thanks for your response!
thierry henon
Coudn't have said it any better Dami! Obviously penny doesn't like Kylie but facts are facts!! Kylie is the queen of pop and is selling now more records than Madonna who BTW really likes a lot but it is what it is!!
thierry henon
And she has more number 1 singles than any other singer in France...Truly amazing artist...She released as well last year a single with LP: half french, half english lyrics..the video was made in Iceland if i am right? "n'oublie pas"
Damián
Absolutely agree with you Thierry. Facts are facts
Ronald van Veen
By the way, the Madonna album had way less tracks than the Kylie Best Of album. It is not that strange that less downloads were sold because the Madonna downloads are cheaper, or is it?
Ronald van Veen
Yes, you are right, The video for N'oublie Pas was filmed in Iceland. Rather nice video. But I prefer those movie like videos she used to do in the past. But they are too expensive nowadays,
Mylène Farmer has scored so many #1 singles and albums and she is huge in France but in other countries people only know her from Desenchantée which is a real shame because she is one of the best songwriters and singers I can think of....
What is your favourite Mylène single or song?
thierry henon
DESENCHANTEE is definitely my favourite one! I guess when you are younger, some songs stick more in your mind than when we are a bit older....SANS LOGIQUE is one of her underrated song but like TRISTANA: beautiful music and lyrics...what about you Ronald?
Ronald van Veen
You are right, DESENCHANTEE is the ultimate Mylène Farmer single / song. My other favourites are JE T'AIME MELANCHOLIE and SANS CONTREFACON. Of her later albums I really like DES LARMES, OPTIMISTIQUE-MOI and JE TE RENDS TON AMOUR. But.... I am afraid I like almost all of her songs.....
Ronald van Veen
By the way, I am also a big fan of the Belgian singers Axelle Red & Kate Ryan. From France I quite like Anggun (well, Indonesia that is) and Shy'm. And Tina Arena..... she is good in both languages......
thierry henon
I really like Axelle Red as well...To be honest i left France over 22 years ago and have no idea what their "new" singers are..i know that the rap is everywhere there!! I like mostly any kind of music but can't stand heavy metal and rap!!
thierry henon
to be honest, i never liked much SANS CONTRE FACON!! i know it is a fan favourite and was huge in France in term of sales but never liked it much...
P
Penny
How I already had said, when Madonna was in the same age as Kylie is now, her album was number 1 in 37 countries and her single 4 Minutes in 21 countries. I think we don't need to compare this with Kylie's albums or singles in her early 50's . When Kylie will be 60, she won't sell as Madonna do it with 60.
Madonna is the Queen of Pop and the best selling female artist of all time. Facts are facts. ;)
P
Penny
Madonna ruled pop for a long time, or why she's called the Queen? :) Kylie never ruled pop, Madonna was always more sucessful then Kylie and nowadays, Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift are the female artists who rule pop. So, as I already had said, Kylie never ruled pop and will never rule pop. :*
Ronald van Veen
Me neither.... Also no fan of classical and minimalistic pling plong music....
Ronald van Veen
Did you move to the UK? Wherabouts?
They say Spotify is a good platform to follow and discover (new) artists.... ;-)
thierry henon
After 10 years in London, i moved to Kent 12 years ago...Quieter area! I have heard of Spotify...might have a look soon...BTW you have to check the UK artist PEPPERCORN! she released her only CD in 2002-2003...amazing discover...she is definitely 1 of the most underrated artist ever!! At that time, she had her own website, did tour a lot...she disagree with her record label and left...then she disappeared!! shame really...have a listen to her great song NICE TO YOU...pure pop genius
thierry henon
not much of a classical fan either...only the masterpieces from Verdi etc....BTW do you like ROXETTE? my favourite band for the last 3 decades!! Was lucky enough to see them live in London before they retired touring as Marie has had health issue...
Ronald van Veen
Yes! I do know ROXETTE! Great band and Marie is a wonderful singer! Had not heard from them in a long time, now I understand why.... MUST HAVE BEEN LOVE is my alltime favourite ROXETTE song but I only know the singles, not the albums.
Ronald van Veen
I have never heard of PEPPERCORN but found her on Discogs. Found her single NICE TO YOU there now. There is a YouTube clip too. Listening now. Very nice indeed!!! Thank you for this tip!
Discogs: https://www.discogs.com/artist/1244338-Peppercorn
London...... I love that city so much. I used to go to London every holiday I had from 1989 till 1999, Must have been there at least 40 times in that period, mostly staying at a cheap hotel near Paddington Station. Always looking for music, going to all Record Shops I could find. Not just HMV or Virgin but those too for the new releases. Bought so many vinyl singles, CD singles and cassette singles.... That is also how I discovered a great singer called NUT in 1996 (bought her single simply because I liked the sleeve and it was only 99p). She only released one album, some singles and then left Sony Records for probably the same reason why PEPPERCORN left... Check out her single BRAINS. Maybe you do not really like the sound but I love it! She used to be in BILLY RAIN and released some music independently but not with great success... A real shame!

thierry henon
They actually released their latest album GOOD KARMA in 2016...Not their best album but has great songs still: IT JUST HAPPENS is one the best song they ever released! STARS from the HAVE A NICE DAY album is still my favourite song...SALVATION as a second choice from the same album..They even have song fantastic songs that they never released as a single: SIVERBLUE, THINGS WILL NEVER BE THE SAME, I AM SORRY...
thierry henon
I will definitely check that one out as well over the week end with SUGABABES...if she sounds like PEPPERCORN, i will definitely like it...thanks for that Ronald...
Ronald van Veen
Hi Thierry, now that you mentioned it I do remember that they released GOOD KARMA! I sure will check the other songs you mentioned. Spotify is so good for that!
Ronald van Veen
Uhm.... she does not sound like PEPPERCORN at all.... That is why you will probably not like a lot. Not many people did anyway... ;-)
thierry henon
I was hoping MABEL to be number 1 this week but with Ed around...we will have to wait next year i guess to see a new number 1!! At least i rather see Ed at number 1 than the dreadful DRAKE!!
