When I was a teenager I used to really like the charts and used to keep copies of it and look forward to thge BBC chart show and Top of the Pops to see which records were climbing the chart what new entries were there who was in etc but the charts nowadays as Ed Sheeran's shows no longer has any real meaning and are a waste of time. Most records seem to be played regularly on radio and tv for weeks sometimes months before release so the week they are released are normally the highest entry and biggest selling for that record but introducing and including downloads distort the charts. There needs to be a different way of dealing with them.

Why are soundtracks (by various artists....) on this chart? I thought they'd been moved to the compilation chart..
Official Charts
Hi Jamie, there's a bit about why this happens in this article: http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/10-blockbuster-soundtracks-that-reached-number-1-on-the-official-uk-albums-chart__18052/

Dear OCC, The no. of weeks on chart for Sgt Pepper and Abbey road does not include the weeks for the 1987 re-issue, which normally it should. 16 weeks in the case of Sgt Pepper, 13 in the case of Abbey Road.

Land? It's not a plane.
Pekka Sahlberg
Ok Mr DVDfever. Just can´t wait how high the new Depeche Mode album / CD will be next week on the albums chart! I hope it will be #1!! Ok by you??

Des Kelly
Unfortunately, absolutely zero chance of debuting at number 1. Observe the chart figures this week for Ed Sheeran (300,000+). I would imagine that will equate to approximately 220,000 next week. I would imagine Top 5 all but assured, Top 3 a possibility.

Yeah but iss irritatin e's taken over the top of the charts.

Abbey Road has been issued as part of a magazine/vinyl series, maybe the units sold are counted as actual sales.
http://www.deagostini.com/minisites/uk/collections/beatles-vinyl-collection/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&gclid=CjwKEAjwkq7GBRDun9iu2JjyhmsSJADHCD_Ha4-bwIDSqEdkrfYiPA4LIBwfz7Z98jAI4sFqvywSfxoCw3Xw_wcB
Seems to have dented the sales of the reissued Sgt Pepper
R
RockGolf
What's the reason for the Abbey Road jump? It appears to be out of nowhere? Some kind of sale?
Pin Ball
It was out as a special introductory issue of the new BEATLES VINYL COLLECTION series published every fortnight by DeAgostini magazines, where 23 Beatles titles are being issued in original 180gm vinyl format packaged with a special magazine. Sgt Pepper was the second title (they're being issued in NON chronological order for some reason) issued so far, hence the sudden new interest in this (I bought the Abbey Road first edition one cos it was only £9.99 which included a nice glossy hard back binder with it to house all the magazines of future issues!!! ) Cover prices henceforth will be standard £16.99 per issue for all single albums and £25.99 for double/triple vinyl). For fans who have not already purchased the remastered vinyl albums of these, now is an opportunity to buy them every fortnight and have the added bonus of special 10" square 12pp magazines - bit like the CD booklets giving some background info on each album - plus a whole host of freebies such as record containers and bags and USB sticks should you decide to prescribe. I will probably just purchase the odd title rather than all of them as it will be kinda pricey.....but no doubt the hard back binder, magazines and freebies will be collectables in years to come!

Thanks!
