It was a big year for the retro black plastic – we reveal the top selling vinyl acts and titles of 2015.
Vinyl showed it wasn't going anywhere in 2015, with events like Record Store Day, and a new generation of rock fans falling in love with the format, giving the sacred black plastic its eighth consecutive year of growth in the UK, the BPI has announced
Vinyl really was the gift that kept giving, with music retailer HMV selling a turntable a minute over the festive period and strong Christmas gifting taking sales of vinyl records in 2015 up a whopping 64% on the previous year. The musos’ favourite format sold 2.1 million LPs, 800,000 more than in 2014.

Rock artists like Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Royal Blood and Arctic Monkeys, plus heritage acts like Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, have contributed to vinyl's resurgence, but they were kept from topping the year-end chart by two British female powerhouses.
The biggest selling vinyl title was Adele's 25, which broke chart records here there and everywhere following its release in late 2015, becoming the fastest album to reach both one million and two sales, hitting each milestone after 10 and 29 days respectively.

A documentary on the life of the late great Amy Winehouse helped the star's second album Back To Black take runner-up position on the year-end vinyl rundown, with the Stone Roses' 1989 self-titled debut and Ed Sheeran's x following behind.

Over on the vinyl singles countdown, it was a good year for Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds and David Bowie, while Sam Smith's record-breaking Writing's On The Wall - the first Bond theme to top the Official Singles Chart - and Mark Ronson's megahit Uptown Funk both make a showing.
Such was vinyl’s regained popularity that the Official Charts Company launched two new charts named – yes, you’ve guessed it – the Official Vinyl Albums Chart and the Official Vinyl Singles Chart.
