The Official best-selling vinyl albums and singles of 2024
The biggest vinyl records of 2024, featuring Taylor Swift, Oasis, The Cure, and Charli XCX.
Taylor Swift lands the UK’s biggest vinyl album of 2024 with The Tortured Poets Department.
Taylor’s 11th studio album tops the list with 112,000 units sold on wax, the highest yearly figure of vinyl album sales this century. 2024 marks Taylor’s third consecutive year atop the year-end vinyl albums lists following 1989 (Taylor’s Version)’s supremacy in 2023, and Midnights’ domination in 2022.
On release, The Tortured Poets Department stormed to Number 1 with overall chart units of 270,000, 66,000 of which were vinyl units, making it the UK’s fastest-selling vinyl album of the millennium.
Tortured Poets’ vinyl tally rocketed further following the release of its expanded Anthology edition in December, which led to the album spending a further two weeks atop the Official Albums Chart, taking its total to 10. The Tortured Poets Department is the longest-reigning Number 1 album of the 2020s so far, and has racked up the most weeks on top for an international female artist since 1999.
Not content with just leading the year-end chart, Taylor carves out a further five entries in the Top 40; 1989 (Taylor’s Version) (20), Lover (29), Folklore (30), Evermore (36) and Midnights (38).
The news comes as new analysis by the BPI, using Official Charts Company data, shows another record-breaking year of growth for the booming physical format.
6.7 million vinyl albums were sold in the UK across the past 12 months, a 9.1% increase on last year’s figure of 6.1 million. 2024 marks the 17th consecutive year of growth for vinyl album sales, with 6.7 million units being the highest total in three decades.
What’s more – sales of physical albums across all formats (vinyl, CD, cassette, etc) has increased year-on-year for the first time since 1994, rising 300,000 copies to 17.4 million.

Coming in at Number 2 with the biggest vinyl reissue of 2024 are Oasis with Definitely Maybe. The monumental news of their 2025 live comeback and subsequent stadium sell-outs coincided with the 30th anniversary release of their debut album. Powered by its vinyl reissue, the album returned to Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart in September, and has surpassed 50,500 vinyl sales in 2024.
In third position is Chappell Roan’s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. First released in September 2023, the album came into its own in 2024, finally reaching Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart 46 weeks later in August 2024 in-part due to its Popstar Edition vinyl re-release. The Rise and Fall… has shifted 43,600 vinyl albums in 2024.
Logging 42,900 LP sales to rank fourth is Short n’ Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter. The American pop starlet’s breakthrough sixth studio album went to Number 1 in the UK in August, and returned to the top spot to capture the coveted Christmas Number 1 album in December.
Rounding out the Top 5 are Fontaines D.C. with Romance. Logging 42,100 sales, the Irish post-punk outfit once again sit behind Sabrina after peaking at Number 2 behind her on release in August. The band however can claim the honour of taking home 2024’s best-selling vinyl album by an international group.
Completing the Top 10 are Billie Eilish with Hit Me Hard and Soft (6), Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours (its ninth consecutive stint in the vinyl year-end Top 10) (7), and 2024 Number 1 albums from The Cure’s Songs Of A Lost World (8) - the biggest new vinyl release by a British act - Coldplay’s Moon Music (9) and Charli XCX’s BRAT (10), with BRAT earning the title of 2024’s best-selling vinyl album by a British solo artist.

Didn’t Taylor release 30+ variants of this album? How many were vinyls? No wonder she topped the list. Her fans are like a cult. They’ll buy anything and everything. No one can deny Taylor is a smart businesswoman.
