Take That have confirmed a film version of their new musical The Band is in the works.

Gary Barlow confirmed on ITV's Lorraine that a movie based on their musical will start shooting in 2019.

"Yes, it's happening," he said. "The script is being written by Tim Firth and it will be shooting next year."

Gary then quipped: "Think they're getting Brad Pitt to play me."

Tim also wrote The Band musical, which opened in September 2017 and runs in London from December 1 - January 12 at the Theatre Royal.

The Band, which is set between two arena concerts 25 years apart, follows the story of five teenage girls. The boy band was cast on BBC reality TV series Let It Shine.

It is hoped The Band film will mirror the success of Mamma Mia, which was a huge hit in cinemas in 2008. “Mamma Mia! took the essence of what the theatre show was about and put it on the big screen," Gary told The Sun.

"And look at the success of La La Land and The Greatest Showman, musical movies are really popular now."
