For just one day next month, over 500 limited edition music releases will hit the shelves of independent music shops in support of Record Store Day.
Now in its ninth year, Record Store Day 2016 will take place on Saturday, April 16 with brand new products from the likes of Foals, James Bay, Sia, Muse and Madonna featuring exclusively in your local record shops.
Over 250 labels will be putting out limited edition releases for this year's Record Store Day, four out of five of which are independents.
The event is partnering with BBC Music for this first time this year; and a host of special programming will take place across the BBC’s radio networks, in particular on BBC Radio 6 Music, where Lauren Laverne’s show (10am-1pm) will be air live from a record store on Friday 15 April.
More than 25,000 music fans are expected to descend on music shops for this year's Record Store Day. The idea was conceived nine years ago in the America with the aim of bringing together hundreds of independent record shops to celebrate their unique culture. A list of this year's participating shops in the UK can be found here.

Sia - The We Meaning You Tour Live (12" yellow vinyl)
Sia is releasing a live recording of her 2010 The We Meaning You tour on vinyl. And like her infamous wig, it will be coloured bright yellow. Released six years ago, it's a must for fans of Sia from her pre-David Guetta/Flo Rida/Chandelier days.

Run The Jewels - Virtual Reality Viewer for their Crown music video
In a first for Record Store Day, band Run The Jewels are releasing virtual reality viewing goggles that will play the music video for their song Crown, which includes a free download of the unreleased song.

For this release, Bitty recorded "War is over" over a brand new "riddim" (Jamaican term for instrumental) that only Sly & Robbie can put out: four to the beat, thumping bassline and bare arrangements leave ample room for Bitty's unique voice. On "Let Me Go Bar Bell Stylee" Bitty covers his hit over a riddim built using a loop from a 1975 Barbell production (Barbell was Robbie Shakespeare's label before he joined forces with Sly Dunbar and created TAXI).Side B features the late great Bunny Rugs, one of Jamaica's most recognizable voices, better known as the lead singer of mega group Third World. Rugs never stopped recording solo material and had the most stringent work ethic. During days off on tours with Third World, he would book studio time to record new songs and in 2009, stopped by in Paris to work with producer and Sly & Robbie associate Guillaume Bougard on a new solo album produced with Sly & Robbie. A huge fan and good friends of Gregory Isaacs, Rugs wanted to cover Gregory in his own inimitable style. This release features a poignant and soulful cover of "Rumours", one of Gregory's biggest hits. Mixed by the sound wizard Godwin Logie, the song is followed by a earth shaking remix by Bitty McLean who mashes Bunny's vocals with a riddim built from a loop of Sly & Robbie's "Guess who's coming to dinner" instrumental they had originally made for Black Uhuru in 1978. | Bryan Ferry The Island Singles 1973 - 1976 | 7" Box Set | Just over a year after Roxy Music broke through, leader Bryan Ferry began a parallel solo career that has gone from strength to strength to the current day. His initial choice of material was groundbreaking; to take the material of Bob Dylan, songs from soul music and the Great American Songbook, and add a touch of glamour and rock to them. The results sound as audacious today as they did back then. These singles (from the albums These Foolish Things, Another Time, Another Place and Let's Stick Together) complimented the original material Ferry wrote for Roxy Music. The B-sides offered re-recorded versions of songs from Roxy Music's debut album. His final Island release, Extended Play, from 1976 reintroduced the thrill of the four-tracker that was so popular in the 60s. | Cheap Trick Found New Parts | 10" vinyl | The legendary American rock band Cheap Trick are one of the most influential rock bands of all time, with acts from Guns’n’Roses, Motley Crue, Smashing Pumpkins and Nirvana all citing them as an influence. In April 2016 they return with their 17th studio album Bang Zoom Crazy…Hello - their first album in nearly 7 years and debut for Big Machine Records. To celebrate RSD 2016, the band are releasing the Found New Parts ep, a title referencing back to their 1980 4 track ep Found All The Parts. | Elton John The Thom Bell Sessions | 12" | Following a temporary hiatus in his partnership with longtime lyricist Bernie Taupin, Elton John turned to producer Thom Bell and the warm sounds of Philly soul for his next step. Bell was already a name producer for his work with some of the decade’s biggest R&B acts such as the Spinners, the Stylistics and the Detroit Spinners and, while recorded in 1977, the fruits of their collaboration would not find an official release until 1979 by which time Elton’s ever-restless muse had already moved on. They were not, however, destined to languish in obscurity and by the late 1990s copies of the original 12” of the sessions were changing hands for silly money among house heads. In 2003 Ashley Beedle’s spirited remix of the lead track ‘Are You Ready For Love’ gave Elton a much-deserved Number 1 single. For Record Store Day 2016 they’re once again available in all their full-length glory on this 2 track black vinyl release. | |

| MAX ROMEO Give Thanks EP | 12 inch, Limited edition of just 600 Worldwide | Max has teamed up with British producer Daniel Boyle, who had recently finished a long stint working with Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry on rekindling the Black Ark sound for a number of releases, which culminated in the acclaimed & award winning album ‘’Back On The Controls’’.Daniel’s vision for the Max Romeo project was to take the rekindled Black Ark studio set up, which he and Lee had created at Daniel’s Rolling Lion studio in London, and blend a mix of the old and new with it, to create a follow-on from War Ina Babylon. The idea was to make a truly heavyweight roots reggae album; driven by Max Romeo’s powerful and conscious lyrics.For this project, Daniel and Max rounded up some of Lee Perry’s old Upsetters line-up, including Vin Gordon on trombone, Robbie Lyn on keyboards, and Glen DaCosta on saxophone, blending these veteran Jamaican studio legends with Daniel’s ever evolving ‘Rolling Lion All Stars’ session band, to create a reggae super group, with some added input from Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry himself on percussion, effects and backing vocals.To complete the concept, Daniel connected with Tony Wright, who was bought on to design and hand-paint the cover art. Tony was responsible for hand painting many famous album covers during the 1970s and beyond, including Bob Marley and the Wailers’ Natty Dread, Lee Perry’s seminal dub album Super Ape, Junior Murvin’s Police and Thieves, Ijahman Levi’s Haile I Hymn, and many more…A real blend of the old and then new. The concept was then taken to Tony Wright, who designed the stunning artwork, hand-painted in oils, taking the woman he featured on the War Ina Babylon cover; and bringing her into our modern day world—the real ‘Horror Zone.’ | |

| Mike Oldfield Nuclear | 7" | After his performance at the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games in London, Mike Oldfield surprised and delighted fans when he returned after a six-year absence from recording with Man On The Rocks, an album of highly melodic rock songs made with the cream of LA session musicians and up-and-coming vocalist Luke Spiller (from the Struts). It was released to huge acclaim in March 2014. Six months later, the powerfully poignant track ‘Nuclear’ – a song about Oldfield’s grandfather’s experiences in the First World War – was selected by director Hideo Kojima for inclusion in the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2014 trailer for computer game Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The track became an enormous word-of-mouth hit across world streaming services. For RSD 2016, it is being released on a strictly limited picture disc 7” single. | Ukrainians, The Vorony | Double 12" vinyl LP | Vorony is the second album by John Peel favourites The Ukrainians. Originally a Wedding Present side-project, the band mixed British post-punk indie guitars with fiddles, accordion, mandolins and the musical styles of the Carpathian mountains. The result is a very powerful record: highly emotionally-charged songs with truly memorable melodies – a perfect blend of East and West. A VOX magazine Album of the Month in early 1993, this record explodes with confidence and originality. For the first time on vinyl (and a double at that!), Vorony is extended from 15 to 19 tracks, to include all the songs from the sessions. Produced by world music guru Harri Kakoulli, once a member of Squeeze. The success of Vorony at the time was such that the band played prestigious spots at both Glastonbury and Womad festivals and undertook a 110 date world tour. This included dates in Ukraine itself as guests of the newly independent country's Ministry of Culture.
