New Music Friday: Lorde, Self Esteem, Stereophonics, HAIM and more
New Music Friday - this week's biggest new song, album and DVD releases, all in one place

Welcome to New Music Friday, your one place to discover the biggest new song, album and DVD releases.
Let's dive right into this week's singles because believe us, there are bops aplenty dropping.
After weeks of teasing on TikTok and IRL, alt-pop icon Lorde has released her comeback single What Was That. Co-produced by Dan Nigro, who's known for his work with Chappell Roan and Olivia Rodrigo, it's a synth-pop earworm with very intriguing lyrics.
Also back in a big way is British vocal powerhouse Jessie J, who releases her first single in four years, No Secrets, and Swedish pop queen Zara Larsson, who drops Pretty Ugly, the first single from her upcoming firth album.

Meanwhile, BRITs winner Myles Smith releases new single My First Heartbreak, which he's been teasing as one of his most "personal" songs yet. Could it become his third Top 10 hit after Stargazing and Nice to Meet You?
Oasis are celebrating the 30th anniversary of their Britpop banger Some Might Say with a special 7” pearl vinyl reissue. Some Might Say became the band's first UK Number 1 upon its original release in May 1995. Could it rocket to the top again?
Sister act HAIM release Down to Be Wrong, the third single from their upcoming fourth album I Quit, while shapeshifting hitmakers Clean Bandit team up with singer-songwriter Leony and DJ-producer Tiësto for Tell Me Where U Go.
There are huge new tunes, too, from EDM legends Swedish House Mafia x Sebastian Ingrosso (No Enemies), rising star boyband Absnt Mind and alt-rock king Yungblud (Lovesick Lullaby).

Now, onto albums. Visionary singer-songwriter Self Esteem – aka Rebecca Lucy Taylor – is releasing her early anticipated third album A Complicated Woman. Her last album, 2021's Mercury Prize-nominated Prioritise Pleasure, peaked at Number 11. Can she make her Top 10 debut this time around?
Welsh rock legends Stereophonics are back with their 13th studio set Make ’Em Laugh, Make ’Em Cry, Make ’Em Wait. They'll be hoping it becomes their ninth UK Number 1 album and third in a row following 2019's Kind and 2022's Oochya!
However, they face stiff competition from James Arthur, who's aiming for a third UK Number 1 album with his sixth studio set Pisces, and Swedish metalheads Ghost, who'll be aiming to hit the top for the first time with Skeletá, their own sixth studio set.
There are also red hot new albums from singer-songwriter Samia (Bloodless), indie kings Broncho (Natural Pleasure), jazz star Emma-Jean Thackray (Weirdo), and the inimitable Jeff Goldblum (Still Blooming). What a week to be alive, right?
