The 12 Mercury Prize Albums of the Year have been announced, with Lauren Laverne revealing the shortlisted records on BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Sounds.
For the first time in its history, the 2025 Mercury Prize will be held outside of London, with the overall Album of Year winner announced at a ceremony at Newcastle's Utilita Arena on Thursday October 16.

When is the Mercury Prize 2025 winner announced?
The winner of this year's Album of the Year Mercury Prize will be revealed on Thursday October 16 2025.
Where will the Mercury Prize 2025 ceremony be held?
This year's ceremony will be held at Newcastle Utilita Arena, and will feature live performances from many of the 12 shortlisted artists.
Who won the Mercury Prize 2024?
Leeds-formed four-piece English Teacher took home the 2024 Album of the Year Mercury Prize for This Could Be Texas.
Lily Fontaine, Lewis Whiting, Douglas Frost and Nicholas Eden's debut LP peaked at Number 8 on the Official Albums Chart in April 2024, also peaking at Number 2 on both the Official Vinyl Albums Chart and Official Record Store Chart.

Judges praised This Could Be Texas's "winning lyrical mix of surrealism and social observation," recognising its "subtle way of wearing its musical innovations lightly."
They continued: "This Could Be Texas reveals new depths on every listen - the mark of a future classic."
