The Madonna biopic may be dead, but like a phoenix rising from the ashes, a limited series about her incredible life and career is now in the works.
According to Deadline, the Queen of Pop is exec producing the series for Netflix alongside Shawn Levy, director of last year's huge superhero movie Deadpool & Wolverine.
Madonna and Levy already have a creative relationship – her iconic 1989 chart-topper Like a Prayer featured prominently in Deadpool & Wolverine and its pre-release trailer, which sent it back into the Official Singles Chart for six weeks last August and September.
The limited series is said to be "in early development" with Julia Garner (Ozark, Inventing Anna) top choice to play Madonna. The Emmy-winning actress was previously linked to the Madonna biopic that was in the works from 2020 to 2023, before ultimately being called off.
After the biopic was shelved, Madge assembled a career-spanning live show, The Celebration Tour, then scored her first UK Top 10 single in 15 years, last year's Popular with The Weeknd and Playboi Carti.
Madonna's musical director on The Celebration Tour was Stuart Price, co-producer of her chart-topping 2005 album Confessions on a Dancefloor, which yielded the Number 1 singles Hung Up and Sorry.
In December, Madonna thrilled pop fans by revealing that she and Price are working on a Confessions on a Dancefloor sequel album. So, between working on new music and the limited series, she's certainly keeping busy this year.
