Listen to Olly Alexander's Eurovision entry Dizzy for the first time
Let's get Dizzy! Olly Alexander has just blessed us with the first listen of his track for 2024's Eurovision Song Contest, Dizzy.
Earlier today, Olly unveiled both the (very fetching) single cover and the release date for Dizzy, March 1 2024.
Written by Olly and the song's producer Danny L Harle, known for his work with Charli XCX and Caroline Polachek who recently scored a Top 10 single in the UK with Dua Lipa's hypnotic Houdini, Dizzy seems to re-affirm Olly's comments that the song he's taking to Sweden is...well...it's not a ballad!
From what we can make out, Olly may just have given us the first taste of Dizzy's first chorus, which starts off quite slow but is clearly backed by an almost orchestral yet synth-y Hi-NRG beat. It's giving It's A Sin!
"Won't you make me Dizzy from the kisses?" The lyrics go. "Will you take my hand and spin me round and round until the moment never ends?"
Let's just say, we think Olly will be taking us back to the club and then some when it's time for him to perform Dizzy live on the Eurovision stage this May.
Thanks to the sterling effort of Sam Ryder (and we have to give a shoutout to Mae Muller's much-misunderstood Zante-core banger I Wrote A Song too), appetite for a UK victory in Eurovision has taken hold. Even the BBC - who offered Olly the chance to represent us at Eurovision this year - have made it clear that they're looking for a true Official Singles Chart hit when Dizzy is released in full.
Dizzy also represents a bold new step in Olly's career; it will be the first single to be released under his own name, since the dissolution of Years & Years (which became an Olly solo project on the chart-topping album, Night Call)
The Eurovision Song Contest 2024 will take place in Malmö, Sweden, following Loreen's victory in Liverpool.
As usual, Eurovision will be split into three parts; two semi-finals and then the Grand Final, which will all take place next May.
Semi-Final 1 is scheduled to air May 7 2024, with Semi-Final 2 airing May 9 2023 and the Grand Final on May 11 2023.
Are we potentially looking at a future Number 1 single, ladies and gentlemen?
Dizzy by Olly Alexander drops March 1 via Polydor.
