Lankum's The Livelong Day wins the 2019 RTE Choice Music Prize for Album of the Year

Lankum are the winners of the 2019 RTÉ Choice Music Prize for Album of The Year with The Livelong Day.
Chosen by a panel of industry experts tonight (March 5), The Livelong Day was selected to win the coveted trophy, which recognises the best music of the past year from artists and bands from the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland/
Lankum beat out competition from Diathi, Fontaines D.C., Girl Band, Jafaris, Junior Brother, Maija Sofia, Mick Flannery, SOAK and Sorcha Richardson.

Folk group Lankum are from Dublin and signed to Rough Trade Records. The Livelong Day is the band's third studio album and peaked at Number 8 on the Official Irish Albums Chart last November.
Prior to the announcement, all of the Album of the Year nominees except Girl Band and winners Lankum performed at the 2019 RTÉ Choice Music Prize event held at Vicar Street in Dublin. Official Chart host Blathnaid Treacy will present TV highlights from the ceremony on RTÉ2 next week featuring interviews with the shortlisted acts.

Now in its 15th year, the RTÉ Choice Music Prize has celebrated albums from the likes of The Divine Comedy, Two Door Cinema Club, The Gloaming and Villagers. Lankum follow in the footsteps of last year's winning act O Emperor for their album Jason.
In addition to Album of the Year, a prize for Song of the Year was also given out, as voted for by the public. None other than Westlife were awarded the gong for Hello My Love, which was accepted by Louis Walsh. Hello My Love reached Number 2 on the Official Irish Singles Chart on release in January 2019. The track was taken from Spectrum, 2019's fastest-selling album and Westlife's 11th Irish Number 1.
Established in 2010, past winners of Song Of The Year include The Script, Chasing Abbey and two-time winners Gavin James and Picture This.
