This is not a Teenage Dream - it's reality. A brand new Katy Perry single has dropped.

Written by Max Martin, Savan Kotecha and Ali Payamin, Rise serves as NBC's official anthem to their 2016 Olympic Games coverage. Currently, the track is solely available on Apple Music.

As well as her announcement tweet, Katy said in a statement: "This is a song that's been brewing inside me for years, that has finally come to the surface. I know that together we can rise above the fear - in our country, and around the world.

"I can't think of a better example than the Olympic athletes, as they gather in Rio with their strength and fearlessness, to remind us how we ALL can come together, with the resolve to be the best we can be."

Katy also confirmed that the track won't be on her next album as she "inspired" to finish it sooner rather than later.

"I was inspired to finish it now, rather than save it for my next album, because now more than ever, there is a need for our world to unite."

Katy's fourth studio album is scheduled for a late 2016/early 2017 release and follows her previous albums One of the Boys, Teenage Dream and Prism. View Katy's complete UK singles and albums chart history here.
