Green Day have revealed that they plan to release not one, not two, but three new albums over five months.

Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong revealed the news about what the US punks are doing to follow-up 2009’s 21st Century Breakdown yesterday via his Twitter.

“Ok, here’s the deal,” wrote the singer. “We’re maing a three album trilogy. Not one. Not two. But three albums. ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, ¡Tre!.”

The trilogy will be released in September and November of this year, with the final instalment coming January 2013.

The band’s producer, Rob Cavallo, added: "It takes balls to do this, each hit of every instrument is actually super important, they add up to one thing. When you get it done, it's like 'Wow, that's a big powerful statement'."
