Elvis Presley is closing the gap on Adele’s 25 album
Adele looks set to extend her lead on the Official Albums Chart for a seventh week, but it’ll be the closest race since 25’s release as Elvis Presley closes the gap with his If I Can Dream album.
Just 4,000 combined sales separate the two on today’s Update, as Presley’s orchestral album continues to narrow the gap, which stood at 6,000 on last Friday’s Official Albums Chart.

Both albums have dominated the Top 5 since their release; 25 has held firm at Number 1 for the last six weeks, while If I Can Dream has remained inside the Top 3 for the last nine (see it’s chart run here).
Meanwhile, Justin Bieber’s Purpose remains at Number 3, Jess Glynne’s I Cry When I Laugh holds at 4, and James Bay’s Chaos And The Calm jumps five places to Number 5.
New entries and high climbers
Following his New Year’s Eve show at London’s Big Ben on BBC1, Bryan Adams is set re-enter the Top 40 with two of his albums. His 1999 retrospective The Best Of Me jumps 113 spots to Number 15, and his latest record Get Up rebounds from 87 to Number 22.
Elsewhere, two new albums are on track to enter this week’s Top 40; US musician Rhiannon Giddens’ Tomorrow Is My Turn is at 19, and Fight Song singer Rachel Platten is at 33 with her debut album Wildfire.

Again, I'm not an Elvis fan but it's better than 25 at the top considering it's been there for ages.
