Biggest BLACKPINK solo singles ranked: ROSÉ, LISA, JENNIE and JISOO's biggest solo hits revealed
It's a tale as old as time - and an inevitability - that every member of a girl group will want to, at some point, go solo.
So it is for K-pop sirens BLACKPINK - or, as you may know them individually ROSÉ, JENNIE, LISA and JISOO - who are right now concentrating on their own solo careers as the band enters a hiatus until next year.
And 2024 has seen 3/4 of BLACKPINK come into their own as solo artists; with JENNIE earning a Top 40 solo hit and LISA collaborating with pop masterminds like Max Martin and Ryan Tedder, while ROSÉ's first-ever solo album rosie has seen its lead single APT with Bruno Mars explode worldwide, becoming the first single by a K-pop female soloist to enter the UK Top 10.
5. Lalisa - LISA
Released: 2021
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 68
Total UK chart units: 80,000
The debut solo single for LISA was in, a way, a reclamation of her birthright. The track's title is, after all, Lisa's given birth name. Its meaning is 'one being praised' and you can certainly see why that is a self-fulfilling prophecy for the rapper and singer.
4. On The Ground - ROSÉ
Released: 2021
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 43
Total UK chart units: 90,000
K-pop and its idols have always been placed on a pedestal and hidden behind a veneer. ROSÉ's tender and forward-thinking debut single goes a long way to demolishing that pedestal and cracking that veneer, especially pertaining to its artists' journey to the top.
"Funny when you want it, suddenly you have it," ROSÉ reminisces of her trainee days with a hole in a wall and a mattress. "Turns out, your gold's just plastic."
3. Solo - JENNIE
Released: 2018
Official Singles Chart peak: N/A
Total UK chart units: 154,000
Solo was the name and the game of Jennie Kim's first release away from her BLACKPINK sisters. It's a muscular track taking in a lot of influences - dance-pop, hip-hop, EDM - all brought into chaotic cohesion by regular BLACKPINK collaborator Teddy Park.
2. Money - LISA
Released: 2021
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 46
Total UK chart units: 206,000
Lisa has always been a gifted MC, and she flexes that muscle to dramatic effect on the theatrical rap track Money, which was Lisa's final release under BLACKPINK's YG/Interscope deal (her more pop-focused new releases have all come out under her own label, Lloud via Sony's RCA arm).
"Everyone silent," Lisa spits, at her most confident on this horn-inflected banger. "Listen to my money talk."£
1. One of the Girls - JENNIE (with The Weeknd & Lily Rose Depp)
Released: 2021
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 21
Total UK chart units: 430,000
Jennie was the first member of BLACKPINK to branch out into an acting career (but not the last - Lisa will make her acting debut in the third series of The White Lotus next year), starring in HBO's The Idol as ambitious dancer Dyanne, a member of pop star Jocelyn's (Lily Rose Depp) performance crew, who gets the chance to become a star in her own right thanks to the machiavellian machinations of Jocelyn's displeased label.
That may sound like an integral plot point to the narrative of the series - and it is! - but like much of The Idol, the focus remained steadily on The Weeknd's smarmy cult leader Tedros and Lily Rose Deep's bruised but brilliant Jocelyn, and Jennie's scenes were definitely under-served in the context of a wider (and, to be honest, more interesting) narrative that we got shut out of.
But one assigned The Idol did understand was the programme's original music. One of the Girls was one of the most successful track from the show's soundtrack, managing a peak inside the UK Top 40.
