New petition launched to save London's Battery Studios from demolition
The iconic institution is at risk of being replaced by flat redevelopments
A new petition has been launched to save London's Battery Studios following threats to demolish the space for flat redevelopments.
The legendary studio has played a significant role in shaping British Music, with many well-known artists recording within its walls including the Stone Roses, Talk Talk, Iron Maiden, Foals and many, many more.
However, Battery Studios is now at risk of extinction, with Brent Council threatening to replace it with flats.
The owners of Battery Studios released a statement, calling on the music industry and beyond to unite and prevent the demolition from happening.
They said: "The music created within its [Battery Studios] walls has shaped global culture and helped define the UK as a world leader in music.
"Importantly, there is strong precedent for protecting studios and creative spaces like this. Allowing this demolition would go against that progress and send the wrong message about how we value our cultural assets. We urge the council to reject this proposal and instead support the preservation and continued use of Battery Studios as a world-class creative facility."
The petition has gained support from multiple musicians however, this isn't an isolated case, with many recording studios and creative spaces being lost at an alarming rate.
