What music did Neflix star Alex Honnold listen to when helping him break a free-climbing record?
He revealed his playlist including one band that was constantly on repeat
Popular climber Alex Honnold has revealed his music playlist when breaking a free climbing world record over the weekend.
Televised live on Netflix on Saturday (24 January), Honnold scaled one of the world's tallest skyscrapers, Taipei 101, which set a new record for the tallest urban free solo in history. He did this without any ropes or safety equipment.
Completed in one hour and 31 minutes, in an interview with Variety afterwards, Honnold gave credit to a certain band he was listening to which helped him with his pacing.
When asked what he was listening to help achieve this record, he said: "It was mostly Tool. It's a random playlist that I made, that I shared with production. I made it months ago while I was driving. I've been training to it a bunch - [it's] basically, rock music that I've liked my whole life.
"Part of the appeal of music is that actually it helps me with pacing. Each bamboo box had been taking me about five to six and a half minutes. I just know how long the songs are. So it gives you a sense of if you're going fast or slow."
Who are TOOL?
TOOL are an American rock band who have been around for over 35 years. Their style of alternative metal with undulating melodies has made them a popular outfit around the world. Their chart performances in the UK have also been incredibly successful with two Top 10 records under their belt including their last release Fear Inoculum in 2019, which peaked at Number 4.
The group are reportedly working on new material with a potential project in the pipeline.
