CHARLATANS

Who are The Charlatans?

The Charlatans are a British indie band originally formed in Birmingham in 1988, before later becoming associated with Madchester and the Britpop scene.

Making their debut Official Chart appearance in February 1990 with the track Indian Rope, that summer The Charlatans broke through with their first Top 10 hit, the band's signature tune The Only One I Know peaked at Number 9.

By October 1990 The Charlatans' debut studio album, Some Friendly, had landed straight in at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart. It was the first of three UK Number 1 albums for the band, including self-titled 1995 album Charlatans and its follow-up Tellin' Stories in 1997.

Following their breakthrough hit, The Charlatans also achieved three more Top 10 placings on the Official Singles Chart during the 1990s, including 1996's One To Another, 1997's North Country Boy and How High.
