NEW ORDER

New Order are an English rock band formed in 1980 by vocalist, guitarist and keyboardist Bernard Sumner (born January 4, 1956 in Broughton, Salford), bassist Peter Hook (born February 13, 1956 in Broughton) and drummer Stephen Morris (born October 28, 1957 in Macclesfield, Cheshire), who were originally three quarters of Joy Division. New Order were joined on keyboards by Gillian Gilbert (born in Whalley Range, January 27, 1961) and soon became the key band for Factory Records as well as co-owning The Haçienda nightspot in Manchester. New Order quickly were seen as a highly influential band with their rock and electronic blendings, and built up a string of hit songs before making their top ten debut with 1983’s Blue Monday, which sold over a million copies but lost them money due to Peter Saville’s sleeve design (the clots). New Order also scored a UK Official Singles Chart Number 1 in 1990 with World In Motion in conjunction with the England World Cup team, as well as other songs such as True Faith, Regret, Fine Time and Crystal. New Order have also enjoyed two UK Official Album Chart Number 1s with 1989’s Technique and 1993’s Republic. New Order went off to focus on solo careers and side projects, such as Electronic (Bernard), Monaco and Revenge (Peter) and The Other Two (Stephen and Gillian), and reconvened in 1998. New Order fractured slightly in 2001 when Gillian stopped touring, and in 2007 when Peter left the group, and was replaced by guitarist Phil Cunningham (born December 7, 1974 in Macclesfield, Cheshire) and bassist Tom Chapman (born 15 May 1972, Chevreuse, France), with Gillian rejoining the line-up in 2011. New Order won the BRIT Award for Best Video in 1988 with True Faith.

Why isn't World In Motion from 1990 linked to New Order's chart history? Especially as the runs as a result of download sales etc have been included as an entry linked to a 2002 reissue.

Yes, the way the single was credited to 'EnglandNewOrder' seems to have completely foxed OCC – despite the fact this was simply a stylised way of billing the collaboration, rather than blandly labelling it 'New Order ft. [a few of] the England Football Team'*. Very famously, and obviously, it's the exact same New Order as did Blue Monday, True Faith and all the rest, yet this still appears to be escaping whoever is in charge of including such irregularities within artist pages.

(For a good comparison with one of their peers, the Pet Shop Boys do in contrast have the single eponymously credited to 'Absolutely Fabulous' included on their page – so it's clearly perfectly possible to arrange such things provided the compilers have the wit and insight to do so.)

(* Had it actually been labelled so bluntly, presumably it would have managed to appear on this page by now...)
