THE RISE AND FALL OF A MIDWEST PRINCESS
by CHAPPELL ROAN
The Rise and Fall Of A Midwest Princess is the debut studio album of Missouri singer Chappell Roan, released 22 September 2023 via Island Records.
Produced by Dan Nigro, the record didn’t actually chart in the UK upon its original release, in fact it shifted less than 500 UK chart units in its opening week according to Official Charts Company data. However, very good things come to those who wait…less than a year later, Chappell Roan was one of the most-talked about artists in the world, a chart-topping one too.
Enjoying a meteoric rise to stardom, thanks in part to a guest slot on Olivia Rodrigo’s GUTS tour, once the British public began discovering her talents and song-writing, Chappell Roan scored a spectacular breakthrough on the Official Chart across 2024.
Chappell Roan made her first UK chart appearance in April 2024 with the super-catchy Good Luck, Babe. The song’s success generated interest in the singer and her catalogue of songs, in no time at all the UK was hooked and her previous debut album began to take off.
With its “campy” pop sound, featuring elements of synth-pop, folk-pop, new-wave, disco and drag influences, The Rise Of A Midwest Princess entered the Official Albums Chart for the first time on 19 April 2024 where it began a steady 17-week ascent all the way to Number 1. It entered the Top 10 on 21 June and continued to climb and climb until it eventually landed at the summit on 9 August.
As well as her breakthrough single Good Luck, Babe, two songs from the album – Hot To Go and Red Wine Supernova - entered the Official Singles Chart too.
