HIT ME HARD AND SOFT
by BILLIE EILISH
Hit Me Hard And Soft, released 17 May 2024 via Interscope / Polydor, marks Billie Eilish's first full-length album in three years.
The follow-up to Billie's two previous Number 1 albums - 2021’s Happier Than Ever, and 2019's When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? - the alt-pop Hit Me Hard And Soft was co-written and co-produced by Billie Eilish O'Connell and brother Finneas O'Connell. Its release was accompanied by lead single Lunch, one of three songs Billie debuted in a surprise DJ set at Coachella in April 2024.
On 24 May 2024, Official Charts confirmed that the bold and critically-acclaimed Hit Me Hard And Soft had given Billie Eilish the biggest opening week of her career to date in the UK after notching up 67,100 chart units in its first seven days of release. This total surpassed the first-week success of her debut album which managed 48,400 units.
Three tracks from Hit Me Hard And Soft also landed in the UK Official Singles Chart in release week - Lunch (Number 2), Chihiro (7) and Birds Of A Feather (9). Over the next few weeks, Birds Of A Feather would prove to be a keeper with the British public, rising all the way to Number 2. By August, track 5 on the album, Wildflower, entered the Top 40 for the first time (37), becoming the fourth Top 40 hit from the record.
In December 2024 Official Charts confirmed Hit Me Hard And Soft as the fifth biggest album of 2024 in the UK.
