hey, who's on right now? ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Me! :P

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey where's our mate calum?

avatar

Piran

0

He was on earlier, but I expect that he'll be back later. :)
So have you heard that new Ed Sheeran single yet?

avatar

Piran

1

Not sure, but he might be back later. :)
Have you heard Ed's new single then & if so, what do you think of it?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

you mean 'shape of you'? well i'm listening to it right now and it's ok :D. was that one of the 2 singles that debuted in the top 10 not too far back?

avatar

Piran

1

I was actually referring to 'How Would You Feel [Paean]', which is currently #1 on iTunes over here. I like the original a lot, but I actually prefer the live version even better! :)
'Shape Of You' was the song that debuted at #1 in both the UK & the US recently. I would probably give that a 7/10, but I prefer 'Castle On The Hill' much more.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

oh ok i'll check out that other song in a bit, got the green day 'american idiot' album on right now. an all time fave album of mine :)

so, what's the programme awards? piers morgan's twitter has all kinds of tweets from people that didn't want him there :D do you know anything about that?

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, that's my favourite Green Day album too! :)
Not really into the Programme Awards to be honest, so I actually haven't heard anything about that story.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well, i did check out that ed song you recommended, too simply acoustic for me :D when's his album coming out again? and what exactly is the programme awards? looks like piers morgan was the host and on his twitter he said that he voluntarily withdrew his name.

avatar

Piran

1

'÷' is going to be released on the 3rd of next month. That means we should see Ed on the BB200 in three weeks from now! ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

dang...remember the run his last album had on the 200 chart? i never realized he was in the top 10 almost a full year :D. think the next album will have a similar response?

avatar

Piran

1

I think his next album might get more time at #1 on the BB200, but I honestly don't see it lasting an entire year in the Top 10. I think it will break records in the UK though! ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hmmm...i wonder what records it could break here? well eminem would hold the 1st week sales record for a male artist (1.8mill. in 1 wk with the marshall mathers lp in 2000....very electrifying month! britney had debuted @ #1 with her 2nd album and sold the 1.3mill. that previous week. and nsync was still on a roll ;)) and then of course adele's sales week :D well, maybe ed might get the highest first week sales for a uk male solo act?

avatar

Piran

1

It could set some streaming record for a British artist. What would be the current record for highest first week sales from a British male solo act though? :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

for a uk solo male act...i don't know. did sam smith have a big 1st week sales tally? well, it'll look like ed has a sure shot of achieving a feat like that.

avatar

Does anyone know whether "Helium" is a single or is it just an album track from the soundtrack of 50SD?

G

Gail

Glad to see another top 10 debut, after ed Sheeran debuted with 2 singles in the top 10 in January, then Paris debuted quite high, and Big for Your Boots debuted at No. 8. Love Katy's new single, feels like a much happier and cheery summer song!

avatar

Lombe

0

I like "Rich Boy" by Galantis. It's a great song. Galantis is an EDM production, songwriting, and DJ duo consisting of Christian Karlsson (aka Bloodshy) and Linus Eklow (aka Style of Eye). The duo initially met by chance at Karlsson's Robotberget studios in Stockholm in 2007.

hey mates! just wanted to invite all of you to the billboard hot 100 party on tues *the article is usually up on mondays, but we have a federal holiday this monday here, so the article might be 1 day late*. ed sheeran is in the top 10 this week and now the hot 100'stop 10 is getting more fun and interesting :)

Jennifer Paige released her new single Devil's In The Details Today. Album Starflower comes out on 24th March. You may remember Jennifer for her massive single Crush in the 90's, if you liked that you'll love the new single. Thought I'd mention it as it's not on the official charts New Release list.

Ahoy chart mateys!
Not much action in the Singles charts so time to rate each song instead of doing Ups & Downs. This will generally happen once a month:

Great: #3
Good: #2, #8, #11, #29, #31, #39
Decent: #9, #26, #28,
Okay: #4, #6, #7, #15, #19, #20, #23, #27, 36, #38
Kinda sucky: #1, #14, #16, #22, #24, #37
Bad: #5, #12, #13, #18, #21, #25 (I'm sorry but it's too boring), #30, #33, #34
Awful: #10 (hate original AND remix), #17, #35
Never heard: #32, #40

Thanks for reading!

avatar

Aleksandr Oakley

1

Glad I'm not the only one who hates 'Call On Me', I think the only reason it is so high in the charts is because of the chorus. That's it, the verses are boring... I haven't actually heard the remix, could you give me the link?

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

the remix is the one in the charts, not the original. ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

you've never heard fake love?? wow, its been out months! its really boring now though so I wouldn't recommend it. and how can you still say One Dance is okay? its literally the MOST BORING SONG ON THE PLANET except maybe chandelier and cheap thrills (all sias songs get so horribly boring for me). it seems like most of the dance is in the kinda sucky or awful sections. don't you like edm / dance music? for me it was the best genre in 2016. :)

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Fake Love's never played on radio in my area and I can't be arsed to search for it on YouTube, wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't on there.
One Dance has a good dance beat, it's just the vocals and no.1 duration that f**ked that song up
I did like dance until 2016, most dance music was trash that year. I'd rather listen to Muse or Green Day any day than this generic Neiked or Chainsmokers trash (though I do like Closer)

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-VsisgVkHw
To me it sounds like a pack of monkeys having a stroke, IDK about you

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

They used to play the original in the charts though, but they barely sound different

avatar

Piran

2

Hey Synthesiza! I hope you're having a good weekend. :)
I'll do the same as usual. Also, I'm going to give this week's Top 40 a score, so for each song: Great = 5 points, Good = 4 points, Decent = 3 points, Meh = 2 points, Bad = 1 point & Awful = 0 points.
Great: #3, #31
Good: #2, #5, #7, #8, #12, #14, #19, #20, #26, #29, #35, #36, #39
Decent: #1, #4, #6, #9, #10, #11, #15, #18, #21, #22, #24, #28, #37
Meh: #16, #17, #23, #25, #27, #34, #38
Bad: #30, #33, #40
Awful: #13, #32
SCORE: 118/200 or 59%; not bad at all, but nothing spectacular either.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

hey girl! gonna come over to the hot 100 party on tues? ;) it's usually lots of fun where everyone chats about anything they want :).

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Don't like Anne Marie's new song then?

avatar

Piran

0

Not at the moment; it's rather annoying & the vocals aren't good either in my opinion. :/

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Reckon I'll be agreeing with you when it spams the radio

avatar

Piran

0

You don't like Anne-Marie that much anyway, right?

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

No, hate her, also, just realized this but it's a cop out she hit the top 40 this week but Imagine Dragons couldn't last week

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

wait do u listen to local radio? I usually listen to capital fm and they don't play it on that anyway but I listen to the charts and hear it there and I mostly listen to Spotify anyway.
Fair enough, we all have opinions, but some of my fave songs of last year, like All My Friends, Say You Do, Perfect Strangers, Nothing Like This, No Money, Sexual, etc were dance music. :)

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

I do listen to radio, Capital very much included
All My Friends is not dance, but having said that, I like Say You Do (I feel I'm the only one though), Perfect Strangers and Nothing Like This.

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

well, snakehips are djs so theoretically all my friends is dance, even if its not generic dance. and I'm glad you like those songs, they were some of my faves of the first half of last year!

avatar

Piran

0

I like a lot of songs with Anne-Marie as a featured artist, but not many with her as a lead artist.
Imagine Dragons are decent for me, so I also wanted 'Believer' to reach the Top 40 too.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Ah, so you don't like Alarm then?

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

DJs does not automatically mean an artist is dance. In fact, there are even some rock DJs. Ever heard of Linkin Park? They're rock and one of the members is a turntablist, therefore he is a DJ, therefore he is a rock DJ.

I think some people do qualify Snakehips as dance but really, they're just R&b producers/Djs.

avatar

Piran

0

I'd give 'Alarm' a 5/10 to be honest. What did you think of that song?

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

Terrible. Not as bad as Do It Right or something like that bt still bad

avatar

Piran

0

I can remember you really didn't like 'Rockabye' either. What about 'Rumour Mill' or 'Boy' if you've heard either of them?

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

Rumour Mill is cancer. The only bad Rudimental song I've ever heard, never heard Boy though

avatar

Piran

0

I doubt you'll like 'Boy' if you don't like all of the other Anne-Marie songs. 'Waiting All Night' still remains as my favourite Rudimental song though! :)

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Feel The Love is better than Waiting all Night because JOHN NEWMAN FTW!!!

But WAN (Wide Area Network?:p) is still good.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Also, remember that song she did with Wretch 32? Better than most but still a bit rubbish

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I liked 'Feel The Love' as well & speaking of John Newman, I liked 'Love Me Again' even more! I hope he's back on the charts again soon. :)

avatar

Piran

0

That was 'Alright With Me' if I remember correctly & it wasn't bad. I think she might have had a Top 10 hit in Australia with 'Catch 22' & I thought that was decent! :)

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Yes, Love Me Again is like my all time favourite

avatar

Piran

0

I know you like Olly Murs a lot too. Did you get his latest album? :)

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Yeah still fairly good but In Case You Didn't Know and Right Place Right Time were better

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I preferred both of those albums too, but 'Never Been Better' remains my favourite album of his. As for favourite songs, I would say: 'Oh My Goodness', 'Army Of Two', 'Beautiful To Me', 'Dear Darlin' & 'Hand On Heart'. :)

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Beautiful To Me is mediocre IMO but I like the rest. I never bothered with the Never Been Better album as I have most of those singles from compilations and stuff

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Those first two songs are so underrated

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah, I still can't believe that neither made the Top 10! :/
Have you been to any of his concerts before then?

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Never been to a live performance in my life as 1) I don't really have an interest in that stuff and 2) in my family, we all have COMPLETELY different tastes to each other

avatar

Piran

0

Fair enough. What music do the rest of your family like then? :)

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Well, my dad likes old hard rock, my mum likes modern rock + metal, my middle brother likes anything dance (but he is starting to like more) and to be fair, I'm kind of like my brother, except less dance and more diverse and my little brother likes whatever we try to get him into.
Still, I wouldn't want to see a dance act live, I ain't paying money to see mime jobs.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, your brother's taste in music sounds similar to mine.
I agree that I'd rather see an actual singer than a DJ live.
So have you heard the new song from The Chainsmokers & Coldplay? If so, what do you think of it? I love it! :)

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

I heard it on the Brit's and it's okay. Pretty good for a Chainsmokers song, but pretty bad for a Coldplay song. Bit irritated it's Chainsmokers FT. Coldplay, bet they only did it that way just because it would be more popular that way. I will say the song is certainly a styles clash

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

ANYWAY this may be off topic but have you heard Linkin Park's new song 'Heavy' yet? What do you think?

avatar

Piran

0

I thought it was credited as The Chainsmokers AND Coldplay, but yeah, if it had been Coldplay & The Chainsmokers, then I agree that it might not have been as big as it is.
The drop reminds me a lot of 'Roses' & the lyrics seem really good too. If streaming support is good enough for it, then I could see 'Something Just Like This' debuting at #1 next Friday! :)

avatar

Piran

0

I have heard it & I actually like it more than I thought I would, despite it getting a lot of hate from both critics & fans. It was an unusual choice for production, but the vocals are decent enough. I think Linkin Park were trying to be experimental with their music & try something completely different. It's good to see that they're at least exploring new ideas though, but I (along with many others) would go back to their 00s music.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

It's not terrible for a pop song but it has nothing to it and is incredibly generic

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

True they just resampled the Roses drop as it sounds like. At least they didn't make it boring AF this time

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

It'd be cool for Coldplay to get a third #1

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah, I'd love to see Coldplay back at #1 too!
So are you going to be doing 'ups & downs' for this week? :)

avatar

Piran

0

What do you think of Linkin Park in general then?

avatar

Piran

0

Well this is much better than 'Roses' in my opinion. So who was your favourite performer at the BRITs?

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

IDK didn't watch them all, Ed Sheeran was good until Stormzy rained on my parade, I suppose

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Okay, but overrated. They have a few good songs (In The End, What I've Done, One Step Closer) but also some really bad songs like most of the other Minutes to Midnight singles. Constantly finding myself sing 'Crawling' though ATM, IDK why :P

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Yep, they are up now!

avatar

Piran

0

Awesome! I saw that you did ratings of each song too, so I'll check out your post now & let you know what I think. :)

avatar

another interesting week for the charts this week!
- To begin, congratulations to Ed Sheeran for a sixth week at no1 with Shape Of You! That is some achievement, and there is a chance Ed could knock himself off next week- but not with Castle On The Hill, with his new single which came out today called How Would You Feel (Paean), which is currently #1 on iTunes! so there Is a chance Ed could occupy the top 3 places next week, something I remember Justin Bieber doing in early 2016!
-Also, congratulations to Rag 'N' Bone Man for a #1 album at first attempt! His album, Human, outsold the whole rest of the top 10 combined, and the lead single of the same name rose back to its peak position of #2. I'm not saying I'm a fan at all, but well done to him for doing so well. It's good to see new British artists doing well these days, whoever they are.
-Castle On The Hill fell to no3 today which shows the extent of Rag 'N' Bone Man's success, as the likes of Jax Jones, Little Mix and The Chainsmokers couldn't budge Ed! But after his album Human quietens down hopefully next week, I'm hoping Ed goes back ahead of the single Human next week!
-This week's biggest new entry was Katy Perry's second comeback single Chained To The Rhythm, which entered straight into no7. It's a really good song which may climb In the next couple of weeks due in part to her Brits performance on Wednesday.
-Another song which continues to climb is Zayn and Taylor Swift's I Don't Wanna Live Forever, which hits the top 5 for the first time today due in part to the release of the 50 Shades Darker soundtrack, which also has new entries further down from Sia (who overall has five songs in the top 100), Nick Jonas & Nicki Minaj and more. I really like the song by the latter two so I hope it hits the top 40!
-The space between 10 and 20 was pretty static for me today, but congratulations to Dua Lipa for being at 9, 14 & 15 and for hitting her new highest position with Be The One!
-I'm happy to see Train and Tinie Tempah climbing, although not so happy that both overtook Bad Things. That seems to have lost momentum now which is sad, but Camila has a wave of new music coming soon so we don't have long to wait to see her in the charts again- I hope anyway!
-Skin by Rag'N'Bone Man also re-entered at #25 today, getting its new peak position. It's definitely better than Human, and isn't great but is bearable!
-Snakehips continued to climb with Don't Leave which I'm happy about, but not so happy with climbs from Migos and Drake. The latter's One Dance has now spent 46 weeks on the chart, 45 of those in the top 40! That is some achievement!
-The only noticeable thing in the remainder of the top 40 is that Anne-Marie debuted at #40 with her second solo single to hit that region, Ciao Adios. Don't worry- the song isn't in another language or anything! I genuinely thought it might be when I first heard it! :/ :P XD Anyway, I really like the song, probably as much as I liked Alarm in summer of last year. I can see Ciao Adios climbing, especially as it is yet to hit the top 50 on Spotify and once it does, I'm sure itll climb quickly like most do once they finally hit the 50.
-I'm sad to see Hailee Steinfeld drop out of the top 40 with Starving which was one of my favourite songs of 2016, but over 20 weeks in the top 40 and a peak of 5 is great for a relatively poorly known artist. However, she has a new single out a couple of weeks ago with Digital Farm Animals called Digital Love. I love the song and hope it makes the charts soon.
-As I mentioned earlier, the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack made a big Impact on the charts today. there were four songs overall from the movie, a follow-up to Fifty Shades Of Grey, which had a very popular soundtrack too with two top 5s.
-In the remainder of the charts there is little to mention really, however I'm sad Zara Larsson fell to 84 with her latest single So Good. Something noticeable is that Lush Life, which has been in the top 100 over a year, is only 10 places behind- this shows how much of a failure So Good has been. I hope the album release next month helps it finally hit the top 40. Also, I'm not sure when, but Aint My Fault seems to have dropped out I think. ;(
-The bottom 10 is almost all very old songs, from Ignition Remix by R Kelly to Sia's Chandelier which now has a mammoth 114 weeks. The only song with more in the top 100 this week is The Killers' Mr Brightside, which is getting closer and closer to breaking the record of most weeks In the top 100. Not a fan of either song, but congratulations to them for staying in so long! One other song in the 100 has over 100 weeks, Ed Sheeran's Thinking Out Loud. Ed really is a pop powerhouse these days! Now will Thinking Out Loud break the record eventually? you never know!
-Next week will see lots and lots of change though. there are lots of new entries, from Take That, Ed Sheeran and Kygo ft. Selena Gomez (all 3 of those are currently in the top 10 in iTunes). Maroon 5 also have a new single called Cold which is great! But the one I'm most excited about is Camila Cabello's latest collaboration, Love Incredible with Cashmere Cat. As you would expect, it is- Incredible! you guessed it! I love the song so much and am so happy that its already in the iTunes top 40! I really really hope it hits the top 40 next week!! However, it has Cashmere Cat as the lead artist so we still have to wait for Camila's debut solo single!
-Anyway, another good week for the charts but next week can only be better! Hope you enjoyed my review!! ;) :D

avatar

Piran

1

Good review as always Calum! :)
Anyway, I'm more excited for next week too, but unfortunately, I don't know if 'Castle On The Hill' will be climbing back up to #2 again due to it's sales losses.
It should be cool to see: 'How Would You Feel (Paean)', 'Giants' & 'It Ain't Me' debut in the Top 40 next week. I have mixed thoughts on 'Love Incredible' & 'Cold' for now. Also, do you think the new song from Linkin Park & Kiiara can reach the Top 40 next week?
Once again, I really enjoyed reading your opinion on the charts this week & I look forward to your next review.

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

haven't heard it yet- is it good?

avatar

Piran

1

I just gave it my first listen; it's decent, but nothing spectacular. It got a surprisingly large amount of hate in the YouTube comments to the official video though.
Anyway, I'm signing off for a bit mate, but chat to you later or tomorrow! :D

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

wow!!! that's some top 10 review!! there's still some uk acts i'm unfamiliar with though...you should do a top 10 review on the hot 100 article? ;) lots of the fans do that each week :)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

cool- maybe I will! ;) its good bad things is doing so well over there- do u consider #4 a big hit yet? :P lol

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

ok bye! I'm gonna do my chart soon- I think ill put it up tomorrow!

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey mate! i just came back from crownnote and left a comment for both you and tom :)

oh that's right LOL! you and i were chatting about 'bad things'. :D well, it's done pretty good, when we were last chatting about it, didn't it fall out of the top 10 after 1 week? but it also looks like camilla will be on the cover of the next bb mag. but yes, i do consider it having a good top 10 run so far.

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

she has a new song with cashmere cat- have u heard it yet? I think its amazing!!

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

oh no i haven't heard it yet...you gotta come for the hot 100 party :D i'm sure she'll still be in the top 10 next week. ok mate, i gotta get going, i'll talk to you later :P

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

its called love incredible- it came out today. u should check it out! btw- u haven't given ur opinion on bad things to me ever. do u like it?

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

bye :)

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Oh yeah, I heard about that new Linkin Park song - ain't Kiarra that woman who had that weird 'Gold' song?

avatar

Piran

0

That's right! Yeah, 'Gold' got a lot of hate from critics & I'd probably only give it a 3/10.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well, i'm listening to it right now...not too bad, her vocals sound pretty good. i can't say that i'm in love with the song or anything :D but i mostly listen to throwbacks, not too much into current music these days.

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

I'm so angry!! love incredible is falling really fast on iTunes- its now 68!! AARRGGHH!! it went from 36-59 overnight, then down to 68 in the last couple of hours! I'm really mad as now it may not make even the top 100 unless it has a revival or finally gets some radio promotion. I really hope it does sooner rather than later!

avatar

Piran

1

Sorry to hear about that! Unfortunately, it's doing bad on streaming & Capital FM is the only major station where I see 'Love Incredible' getting any significant radio support.
That said, not many people in the UK know who Cashmere Cat is & Camila is only a featured artist here. If 'Trust Nobody' wasn't big in our country, then 'Love Incredible' sadly probably won't be either.
There's also no sign of 'Digital Love', so I doubt that'll be making the Top 100 anytime soon either. :(

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

wait love incredible is getting played on capital? I didn't know that!

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

just checked and its not on the playlist

avatar

Piran

1

Not at the moment, but what I meant is that it's possible that 'Love Incredible' could be played on Capital FM eventually. I'll check to see if any other stations have it on their playlist. :)

avatar

Piran

1

It's only been two days since release, so it might be added soon.
Speaking of radio, 'Castle On The Hill' went back to #1 on airplay this week & 'Chained To The Rhythm' debuted in the Top 5. ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

how do you see the airplay chart? didn't know u could

avatar

Piran

1

Google 'UK Airplay Chart' & you should be able to see it. You can even check what is being played in your local area. ;)
OCC won't include radio data though as only sales & streaming count towards the charts.

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

decent! ill be sure to keep an eye on that!

avatar

Piran

1

Cool! Are you listening to the Vodafone Big Top 40 at the moment? :)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

yep ;) I already pretty much know the top 10 but whatever ill listen anyway. :)

avatar

Piran

1

Do you ever go on Kworb's website then? That tells you which songs are gaining or losing sales & how much of a lead the #1 song on iTunes has. ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

no actually ill check it out now!

avatar

Piran

1

You can check international iTunes chart there too! :)
Oh Big Top 40 are playing 'Ciao Adios' now & it's actually growing on me very slightly.

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

:D yeah I really like it :) I checked out kworb but don't really get it. does green mean increase in sales and red loss? and do the numbers mean percentage of sales in proportion to no1?

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, all of what you said there is right! :D
Do you ever check out the UK Albums Chart too?

avatar

well only the top regions, as lower down is usually full of old albums or artists ive never heard of. even the top 5 usually has non-famous artists in in (well I don't know them anyway). its also interesting to see on the Spotify section the peak the songs had, and seeing the most popular youtube music videos. its a good website thanks for showing me it!

avatar

Piran

1

You're welcome buddy! :)
So apparently Camila Cabello is possibly collaborating with Pitbull... now that would be an awesome collaboration! What are your thoughts on that?

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

yeah wow! erm well it would be different- but in a good way I'm sure! :) looking forward to it! maybe that's the long-awaited debut solo single!

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

how often does the kworb iTunes update? every 6 hours or so? cos it still says 12:18!

avatar

Piran

1

I'm definitely excited too! Pitbull is probably one of my favourite rappers of the decade so far. ;)

avatar

Piran

1

They should usually update every 2-3 hours. :)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

cool

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Calum, just a quick update...
So 'How Would You Feel' currently has a slight lead (about 10%) on sales over 'Shape Of You'. However, on Spotify, 'Shape Of You' is at #1 with 730,085 daily streams, but 'How Would You Feel' has had 290,080 & falling.
With all of that said, I think 'Shape Of You' will keep the #1 on Friday & 'How Would You Feel' will definitely debut in at least the Top 10 & maybe even the Top 5. ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

yeah I saw it just updated! I think shape of you will overtake how would you feel eventually as its lead is definitely lessening. I'm sure how would you feel will have a revival on Spotify in the next few days, and will make top 5 on Friday, probably top 3 unless its sales continue to fall. :)

avatar

Piran

1

Do you think that we could see Ed do what only JB has done & occupy the entire Top 3 spots on the Official Charts when his album is released?
I remember one Big Top 40 show where Ed Sheeran had six songs in the Top 10 in the week that he released 'x'! :O

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

really? I don't remember that! which songs? lemme guess: sing, thinking out loud, don't, bloodstream, photograph, what else?

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

yeah, he can! its possible he can even this Friday, so when divide comes out he certainly can!

avatar

Piran

1

Oops... I got that wrong! On the 22/06/2014 dated Big Top 40, he actually had 6 songs across the entire Top 40, but four in the Top 10. Here are where the Ed Sheeran singles charted that week...
#1: Sing
#5: Photograph
#6: Thinking Out Loud
#10: The Man
#16: Don't
#35: Afire Love
Still really incredible, right? ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Ed should have three in the Top 5, but I think 'Human' might be able to stay in the Top 3 for one more week though.

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

the man got #10?? wow, I didn't know it ever got in the charts! this is really weird right, but in late 2014 ed had I think 7 songs in my top 20, 2 of those being the man and afire love, both of which re-entered in early 2016 and are my fave two from X right now, probably. but all this time I thought they shouldn't have been let in and that my rule was breached!! I had no idea whatsoever that they actually reached the charts!! :) XD the man hit 6 for me in 2015 aswell! wow that's a good shock!

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

i didn't listen to big top 40 then so i wouldn't have known. but yeah thast good!

avatar

Piran

1

I'll need to check where they appeared on Official Charts later, but they certainly did well on the Big Top 40! :)
Well when Taylor released '1989', she had six songs inside of my Top 40: 'Shake It Off', 'Blank Space', 'Bad Blood', 'Welcome To New York', 'All You Had To Do Was Stay' & 'How You Get The Girl'.

avatar

Piran

1

I might've already asked you this before, but do you think Ed's new album will have higher first week sales than 'x' did? :)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

just checked his official chart history and pretty much all of X hit the top 100! and it seems afire love and the man were singles as they have their own covers! wow- i did not know this!!

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

not sure as X was in the top 5 albums it seemed forever, but with the success of the first 3 singles, probably!

avatar

Piran

1

I didn't know that either! :O
I think every song from 'Purpose' made the Top 100 too. 'Starboy' & 'Lemonade' might've had every track from them chart too.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I can imagine the album will get a lot of streams too! I have a feeling that every song from '÷' could make the Top 100. ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

lemonade mustve been massive if it did that as it wasn't even on Spotify!

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

is ur chart up yet?

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, it's been posted now! ;)

avatar

Piran

1

I'll have to check the archives & let you know what I find later. Remember that was the week that Prince died, but I think he had something like six re-entries as his music wasn't made available to stream.
So are you going to be checking out the Official Chart Update later then? :)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

cool ill check it out ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Awesome! When are you next going to update your charts then? :D

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

ive left a comment on crownnote! great chart! I might update mine later or tomorrow and ill check the update now if its there

avatar

Piran

1

Thanks for the reply to me there & I responded back to you! :)
Well it looks like I'm going to win our bet about 'Love Incredible', as it looks that won't be reaching the Top 40 on Friday. At least it's charting in the Top 100 though, so I hope you're still happy with that.

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

arsenal beat Sutton ;( ;(

avatar

Piran

1

Well Sutton did well to reach the fifth round of the FA Cup though & especially if they got to play a team as good as Arsenal! Sadly, Liverpool only made it to the fourth round. :/

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

;) ;) qpr lost in the 3rd round ;(

avatar

Piran

1

They're your favourite team, right? :)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

yeah. Liverpool are second as my mum supports them ;) u support liverpool don't u

avatar

Piran

1

That's right! :)
Oh I like that football article on your profile page. Did you write that?

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

oh wondergoal media? yep, that's my blog! I haven't done it in a while but ive got about 7 posts I think! I'm glad u like it!

avatar

Piran

1

That's the one! ;)
So have you updated your Crown Note Charts yet?

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

not yet but ill do it soon :)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

I left a reply on crownnote btw :)

avatar

Piran

1

Oh yeah, I saw your response & I'll reply to it soon.
Thanks for the comment mate! :D

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

I left another couple of comments on crownnote ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Awesome! Are you going to be here on Friday for the next Official Charts then? ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

what time is the hot 100 up? whatever time it is, ill try and be there about 9 :)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

ill do a review of maybe the top 10 or 20 ;) =)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

of course! my top 40 will be up hopefully later and ill check out the hot 100 and maybe do a review about 9! :)

avatar

Piran

1

That's awesome! :)
I'll be on the Hot 100 article too, but signing off at about that time. If not tonight, then I'll definitely try to see it tomorrow.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey mate, well piran and i are racing each other to be the 1st comment as i'm typing this ;) it should come up sometime today is all i can tell you ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

looks like we're getting some new top 10 entries this week ;). back when nsync, destiny's child, britney and all them would be in the top 10 you would still normally debut in the bottom part of the chart. streaming certainly gives tons more advantages ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

cool ill be there later!

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

usually the hot 100 article posts up every monday, but yesterday was president's day, a federal holiday here. back in the day, the top 10 article would be up on weds and then the full charts would be up on thursdays ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

Piran Liverpool haven't had a good first half have they? ur losing pretty badly! ;) and btw have u done ur chart I'm sorry I'm so behind on mine (I haven't put the last 2 on crownnote) but I will defo do one tomorrow and one Thursday, that's the plan. I have done them but haven't found the time o put them online

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Calum! Yeah, Liverpool are losing 2-0 right now. :(
I was watching the rugby this weekend though in London (hence why I've not been on recently). It was great that England beat Italy 36-15 in the end. Are you a fan of that sport? :)
Well I certainly look forward to checking both Crown Note Charts from you. I updated mine earlier today if you haven't seen it already! ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

I don't like playing rugby but I don't mind watching it. I wouldn't call myself a fan but I don't mind watching it ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, it's the same with me too! :)
Did you see the Official Chart Update earlier then?

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

no I haven't ill see it tomorrow

avatar

Piran

1

I'm not really a huge fan of what's coming for Friday to be honest. :/
Did you catch the BRITs on Wednesday night then?

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

yeah I saw them! I really liked the collabs by chainsmokers and coldplay and Ed Sheeran and Stormzy!

avatar

Piran

1

Well you'll be pleased to know that both of those are taking the Top 2 spots on iTunes right now! ;)
Yeah, The Chainsmokers & Coldplay were easily my favourite performers of the night, followed by Katy Perry & Skip Marley.

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

yeah stormzys doing great now hes got loads of songs in the Spotify top 50

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

yeah chained to the rhythm grew on me even more after the brits ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

I'm gonna check ur chart now then do mine after well 2nd latest one :/

avatar

Piran

1

I know you'll definitely love one of my debuts! ;)
Well let me know when your charts are up & I'll be happy to check them out.

avatar

Piran

1

I hope to see it in your personal charts soon then. I'm still loving it even more with every listen! ;)

avatar

Piran

1

I think he's going to have two or three new songs in the Top 40 if the Official Chart Update is correct. I saw that 'Big For Your Boot's is predicted to rebound 17-6 on Friday.

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

oh yeah that reminds me I should check the update ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

I left a comment on ur chart and ill begin mine now ;) but yeah its from the 17th so I need to do another on thurs

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

did u see my comment

avatar

Piran

1

No, but I'll look for it later! ;)

J

Jstar

1

Over 300 comments. Is that like a record on the U.K singles chart lol.

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Jstar! How's your week going? :)
Well this is actually last week's thread, but it's certainly the highest number of comments I've seen since I've been on Disqus!

J

Jstar

1

I have bowed down to pray a few times this week to make the worse seem better haha. But it has been fine. Very busy at work though. Hope school is going well for you. I remember there was a time it would only get like 30 comments. But it has increased a lot. I saw the new Chainsmokers song is suppose to rise a lot.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, it's cool that we're getting more people on the Official Charts & Billboard discussion forums... or it is all a perfect illusion? :P LOL
University is going well for me thanks, but like you, my schedule has been so busy! Yeah, I'm loving 'Something Just Like This' right now & it could jump 30-2 according to the latest UK chart update.
If Ines' predictions are correct, then The Chainsmokers will have three songs in the Hot 100's Top 10 next week.

J

Jstar

1

I told this girl today at work that you belong with me. I love music puns lol. Well that is nice that everything at the university is going well. The song by The Chainsmokers is fine even though I think the drop is way to similar to Roses. But it is amazing how big they have become since last year. This would be their 5th top 10 hit in 2 years. But it is really like a year since Roses went top 10 early last year.

avatar

Piran

1

Well that's an interesting love story! Music puns are great though; Ines & I always throw them into our chats. LOL
Yeah, 'Something Just Like This' does remind me a lot of 'Roses' too. I never would've guessed that Coldplay would appear on a dance track, but it works really well! :)
What are your thoughts on 'It Ain't Me by Kygo & Selena Gomez?

J

Jstar

1

I was joking though about telling a girl that today lol. But sometimes im just so happy I could die and it's alright. A Sky full of Stars was a pretty good song too. A lot of people keep saying they like that song by Selena and Kygo. I haven't gotten around to it yet. But I read that you think it is good. Well I will form a opinion on the song when I here.
Well on Saturday I will be happy in the club with a bottle of red wine lol.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I had 'It Ain't Me' as my #1 song of the week. 'How would you feel' about getting Ed's upcoming album though? I'm certainly buying a copy. ;)
Speaking of Kygo & Selena Gomez, what do you think of each artist in general?

J

Jstar

1

That is cool you are a huge fan of that song. Well it has gotten a pretty good reception so I bet that I will at least like it. I really don't buy albums at all. I would probably just stream it. Just Gaga and Ariana for now I would buy albums.

Well Selena is solid. I have liked a few of her songs. But I don't consider her to be a great singer. She is solid in that aspect. I don't know to much about Kygo's music. But I know he is much bigger in Europe. Stole the Show was good though.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I'm happy that 'It Ain't Me' is getting a positive response from critics. Well as for the latest albums from Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande, I would give 'Joanne' a 6/10 & 'Dangerous Woman' an 8/10. :)
Well while Selena Gomez is far from my favourite singer, she's still very good. I'm pleased to hear that you like 'Stole The Show', but other than 'Firestone', he never charted on the Hot 100 before 'It Ain't Me'. Some songs I recommend that you check out by him are: 'Carry Me', 'Here For You' & 'Raging'. :D
I'm going to sign off now as I have some work to do, but enjoy your night Jstar & hopefully see you on Friday! ;)

J

Jstar

1

Have a goodnight Piran. Talk to you later on in the week. And I will try to take a look at some of those Kygo songs.

"Shape of You" by Ed Sheeran remains at number 1 on the Official UK Singles Chart for a sixth straight week. It gained 36,500 downloads and 8 million streams this week. Sheeran gave a great performance of the single at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards last Sunday.

"Human" by the Rag 'N' Bone Man rises to number 2 this week. It was produced by English producer, Two Inch Punch (who has produced for artists like Jessie Ware, Sam Smith, and Years & Years). Rag 'N' Bone Man performed the single on the Graham Norton Show on February 10, 2017.

"I Don't Wanna Live Forever (Fifty Shades Darker)" by Zayn and Taylor Swift reaches a new peak at number 5 following the release of the movie "Fifty Shades Darker" on February 10, 2017. I watched the movie on Tuesday, and I thought it was garbage (but that's just my opinion).

"Chained to the Rhythm" by Katy Perry (feat Skip Marley) debuts at number 7. The song's lyrics are about being aware of one's surroundings. Skip Marley is a maternal grandson of the great Bob Marley. Skip's mother, Cedella Marley is the first-born daughter of Bob Marley and Rita Marley.

"I Love You" by Axwell & Ingrosso (feat Kid Ink) debuts at number 73 this week. It's a great song.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

Oh yes, Axwell & Ingrosso... I loved Swedish House Mafia, and I was so off after they came back DESPITE all that bulls about their 'final gig' and 'last song' and all that, besides, A&i's music without Steven Angelo is pretty bad

avatar

Naos

Eh, the chart isn't all that special to me this week. Nothing to really love or hate. Just boring.

My thoughts & observations on the UK charts as always…
- ‘Shape Of You’ by Ed Sheeran remains atop the Official Charts for a sixth consecutive week. While it’s still ruling both sales & streaming, it’s lead did shrink in the former metric & it lost a lot in performance in the latter category. It is now just two weeks to go until he releases his highly anticipated third studio album, titled ‘÷’.
- Although Ed Sheeran’s biggest competition for #1 is himself, it might not be with ‘Castle On The Hill’ anymore. The promotional single for his album is called ‘How Would You Feel (Paean)’ & has bounded to #1 on iTunes in just a few hours, so it’s possible that Ed could be replacing himself at the top next week. If this does happen, Ed would become only the fifth ever act to do so. At first listen, I would say ‘How Would You Feel (Paean)’ is better than ‘Shape Of You’, but not as good as ‘Castle On The Hill’.
- Ed has also been announced as one of the performers for next week’s BRIT awards. Other performances come from: Katy Perry, Emeli Sande, Little Mix, Bruno Mars, Skepta & The 1975. You can watch the show live on ITV next Wednesday night.
- ‘Human’ by Rag’n’Bone Man rebounds 5-2 this week to tie its peak position, thanks to strong increases in sales & radio. It has now been blocked at #2 for a second time, also stuck behind ‘Rockabye’ by Clean Bandit ft Sean Paul & Anne-Marie. I’m pleased to see two songs in the Top 3 that have some features of rock music in them though.
- There’s more good news for Rag’n’Bone Man, as his debut album (also called ‘Human’), enters at #1 on the albums chart. He is the winner of the BRITS Critics’ Choice Award for 2017, following in the likes of big British names, including: Adele, Ellie Goulding & Sam Smith.
- His debut album sold a huge 117,000 copies in its first week, making ‘Human’ the fastest selling debut album by a male act this decade & outselling the rest of the Top 10 combined. The rest of the Top 5 this week is: ‘Little Fictions’ by Elbow (1-2), ‘Rip It Up’ by Thunder (new at #3), ‘One Foot Out’ by Nines (new at #4) & the ‘La La Land’ Motion Picture Cast Recording (2-5).
- Back on the singles chart, Rag’n’Bone Man also soars 51-25 with ‘Skin’, but other than that, there were no major climbers in the Top 40. Two songs did advance four spots though; ‘I Don’t Wanna Live Forever’ by ZAYN & Taylor Swift (9-5) & ‘Play That Song’ by Train (25-21).
- The highest debuting song of the week is ‘Chained To The Rhythm’ by Katy Perry ft Skip Marley, starting at #7. It’s become the lead artist’s 14th Top 10 hit & her first Top 10 since ‘Dark Horse’ reached this region in late 2013. It’s a dancehall & disco song which uses a mid-tempo beat & this is well supported by the elements of synth & electric guitars. It’s a fun party song that I can’t take off repeat, but considering Sia co-wrote it & Max Martin was responsible for the production, I had high hopes going into this song anyway. It’s good to see Katy Perry back on the charts again!
- Meanwhile, Anne-Marie earns her second Top 40 appearance as a lead artist with ‘Ciao Adios’, which is a new entry at #40. You’ll probably remember her most from her feature on ‘Rockabye’ (which spent 9 weeks at #1 last year) & has also been nominated for British Breakthrough Act at the BRIT awards next week. It’s not a terrible song, but I don’t think I’m going to really like it anytime soon; the song can easily get annoying & relative to her other songs, the vocals are a bit weaker here.
- Also, along with Ed Sheeran’s latest single, other Top 40 debuts for next week could be: ‘Giants’ by Take That, ‘It Ain’t Me’ by Kygo & Selena Gomez (love this one!) & ‘Cold’ by Maroon 5 ft Future.
- Thanks for reading my review! Have a good weekend everyone. :)

Hey Piran! Another good news this week was 25 reaching 11x platinum in the U.K. and Hello re-entering the chart. I guess the Grammy wins also resulted in Stressed re-entering. All of Me and Chandelier both re-entering does seem somewhat random. Plus Mr. Brightside continues to chart ... ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Techfan! :)
Well that's great to hear about Adele! '25' also moved back up from 9-6 on the albums chart this week. :D
So 'Mr Brightside' is now just six weeks from matching 'Chasing Cars' for the all-time record for most weeks spent in the Top 100. ;)

avatar

Techfan

1

I'm also glad that Stormzy's song left the Top 10! ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

hey what's up mate!! oh did you catch my post about rick astley performing on the good morning america show a couple days ago? 1st time in a long time i've seen him on tv over here.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey buddy, just came back from the mj article :))))!! ok, my next mj prediction: off the wall will reach 9x-10x plat. :) don't know how soon though :D

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I agree! Apparently Stormzy's debut album is being released next Friday & right now, I'm not too interested. :P

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I did! When was the last time that you saw Rick Astley on TV in the US then? :)

avatar

Techfan

1

That'd be great! That's one album I remember our family had on cassette. ;)

avatar

Techfan

1

, he might return to the Top 10 ... :P

avatar

Piran

0

It's #13 on Spotify & #22 on iTunes, so that doesn't seem too likely for now, especially considering the BRITs will also shake up the charts next week! ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

2

oh it'd have to be in the 80s on mtv. he did have a couple of hits, but after that, i didn't hear about him too much.

avatar

Piran

1

Oh what do you think of the points I mentioned in my review then? ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

dude, we had the thriller record right around the time of motown 25 :D i still remember my dad saying how everyone rushed to buy it :D but see...this shows the younger crowd how good mj's music really was and still is. i mean, we were both kids when thriller was out...and watch, it'll one day reach 40x plat. :))))!

avatar

Techfan

1

Me either. I do remember the Cry For Help video in which he had long hair was probably the last time I saw him on TV.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

he had long hair? no way! i remember the 'together forever' vid, but i can't recall the other hit...was this around 1988-89?

avatar

mildredfarts

1

i don't know what you did differently there but that's the first time i've actually enjoyed reading one of your reviews.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well mate, i still don't know some of the artists in the top 10 :D any news on our lm mates?

avatar

Piran

1

Well I'm pleased to hear that you enjoyed this one! I'll continue to make more like this then. :)

avatar

Techfan

1

That was in 1991 and it was his last Top 10 in the Hot 100. From that album Whenever You Need Somebody, he also had It Would Take A Strong Strong Man and She Wants To Dance With Me as Top 10s.

One very good mix is one that has all his hits including some that I think very hits in the U.K. but not the U.S.

avatar

Techfan

1

Maybe, it's because it's ... TGIF! ;)

avatar

Piran

1

All I know is that Little Mix are in the US at the moment supporting Ariana Grande on her 'Dangerous Woman' tour. I hope 'Nothing Else Matters' is the next single from 'Glory Days' though! :)

avatar

Piran

1

Haha! Nice Katy Perry reference there. ;)

avatar

Techfan

1

Oh, one bad thing I did notice in this week chart was B&B climbing a couple of spots. :P

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

really? i don't remember that one...you wouldn't know the chart date by any chance?

avatar

Techfan

1

The latter song didn't chart, but they used to play it in the radio station I listened to. Cry For Help started charting on 2/16/1991. It was quite a change from his not being with Stock Aitken Waterman and their dance music. He switched to AC and soul in terms of music genres. Although, It Would Take A Strong Strong Man could be considered a ballad. ;)

Great review as always! Think I'll post mine tomorrow as I'm spending my evening at the theatre. Do you have Human? I do and all the songs are amazing! I recommend you get it if you haven't already.

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

I'm joking ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Calum! :)
I'm sorry, but I don't think that will make the overall Top 40 next week; it doesn't seem to be advancing on iTunes much anymore & I need to see its streaming figures before I can be sure whether or not it will make it.

avatar

Piran

1

Haha! I thought you were genuinely disappointed that I didn't mention it. :P LOL

avatar

Piran

2

Thanks for responding here Aleksandr! :)
I don't have 'Human' yet, but I might get it considering how much I like the title track & 'Skin'. :D
Well enjoy the theatre & I look forward to seeing your review tomorrow. ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

well I am a bit as for me its the biggest bit of music news this year so far bar ed sheerans return, but it doesn't matter. theres always next week when u say about its #38 debut!! that's my guess- watch this space!! anyway I'm gonna do my review now!

avatar

Piran

1

Well if it does debut inside the Top 40, I'll give you a shout-out in my review for next week! Do we have a deal? ;) LOL

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

yep its on! ;) anyway hope u like my review I'm doing it now!

avatar

Piran

0

Oh yeah, that's at #30 now! That said, small climbs like that won't make it a hit over here. The "rain drop, drop top" meme is almost completely unknown in the UK! ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Awesome! Please tell me when it's up. ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

wow, i never knew he had any 90s hits over here...did you catch him on good morning america this past week? or it might've been the today show :P

avatar

Calum Pk7

sorry its taking a while but ill finish as soon as possible

Am I the only one who doesn't like Chained To The Rhythm? It's not bad, Katy Perry is OK but it's pretty generic

avatar

Techfan

1

Sure. Here goes on the week of March 12, 1988 when he climbed to #1:

1. Never Gonna Give You Up - Rick Astley
2. Faith - George Michael
3. She's Like The Wind - Patrick Swayze (Featuring Wendy Fraser)
4. I Get Weak - Belinda Carlisle
5. Endless Summer Nights - Richard Marx
6. Just Like Paradise - David Lee Roth
7. Man In The Mirror - Michael Jackson
8. Out Of The Blue - Debbie Gibson
9. I Want Her - Keith Sweat
10. Can't Stay Away From You - Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine

Pretty darn good Top 10! ;) Even if #9 and #10 are not close to being the best songs by those artists.

Dear Piran, I just love your weekly comments on the UK Singles Chart and your next week's predictions. Just one remark. Ed Sheeran's song "How Would You Feel" is not going to be his third single from the latest album, but just a promo single. Ed Sheeran himself wrote on his Twitter account that "How Would You Feel (Paean)" would be released on 17 February 2017 only as a promotional single.

Just thought I'd let you know, the review is up now!

Actually, the review got detected as spam, any idea why?

EDIT: Fixed it

I don't know anyone else who dislikes it at the moment, but I know it took me several listens to get into it. 'Chained To The Rhythm' sounds like a pop song that you know will get stuck on radio for weeks though.

avatar

Piran

Hey Ireneusz! I'm very pleased to hear that you like reading my reviews & predictions. :)
Thanks for the correction & I'll edit that into my review now. What do you think of Ed Sheeran's latest music then?

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah, I get that too sometimes. If ever your replies or posts don't get approved, then I'd just retype them but with fewer words.
It's good to know that your review has been posted though. I look forward to seeing it! ;)

oh i tried another server and the chart archive loaded up just fine :/ well, this is a top 10 where i like just about every song, minus david lee roth ;D. but ! that was 29 yrs ago?? the richard marx one was a def. fave of mine back then. i had the george michael, belinda carlisle, dirty dancing, richard marx, mj, debbie gibson albums back then :D thank god for the walkman :) but yeah i do remember the rick astley one...did you like his music back then?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey good morning mate :) very gray and gloomy here, we're expected tons of rain over the weekend. you guys still getting tons of snow over there?

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Sunshine Gal! Good morning to you as well. :)
Well we never really had that much snow last week; just like a flurry or two every few hours for like one day! :D LOL
It's about 50* over here right now, but just cloudy to be honest.
Oh have you heard 'It Ain't Me' by Kygo & Selena Gomez? It's incredible! ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey mate! i invited all the brits here to the hot 100 party this tues. and no i'm not into selena gomez's music...is that gonna go in the top 10 over here?

avatar

Piran

1

That's awesome! It'll be good to see them there. :)
Well in your country, 'It Ain't Me' is currently #3 on iTunes & #7 on Spotify, so if radio gives it a lot of support, then it could easily go Top 10 on the Hot 100!

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

do the uk charts ever do any kind of anniversary articles like bb does? like the 20th anniversary of a big song or album there? cuz i haven't seen too many since i started commenting on here.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I think I saw one article about albums that would've been released for 20 years this year. :)
Oh what is your favourite Ed Sheeran song of all-time?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

umm... i don't know all of his music, but i did like 'runaway' from the x album. what about you? and uk boybands wanting to come to the u.s. that you know of? ;)

avatar

Piran

1

'The A Team' would be my favourite song from him as a lead artist, but easily 'Everything Has Changed' as a featured artist. :)
Well The Vamps are a male group who I'd love to see do well in the US. I'm sure you've heard me mention about them before, but 'Somebody To You' (ft Demi Lovato) is my favourite song of theirs & even made it to #10 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 back in 2014. I think they might've had an EP which reached the Top 10 of the BB200 as well. :D
I know that they got 5 Top 10s in the UK Singles Chart from their debut album. I'd definitely recommend their music though; lots of fun & catchy pop-rock! ;)
Anyway, I'm signing off for a bit, but I'll see you later Sunshine Gal!

Now it seems to have gone again. I think the filters are glitching anyway

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

oh cool...any uk acts making debuts in the u.s. anytime soon? ok mate, i'll catch your ar$e later :D

avatar

Piran

1

Hey, I'm back again for a bit! :)
So have you heard Katy Perry's new single yet? If so, what do you think of it?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey mate!! no i haven't heard katy's new single yet...is it gonna debut high on the hot 100 chart this tues?

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I think it's predicted to debut at around #4. :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well @ least the top 10 over here will be more interesting ;). any uk coming to the u.s. that you know of?

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, it's also possible that: Rihanna, Bruno Mars & The Weeknd ft Daft Punk also make the Hot 100's Top 10 next week! On the BB200, I think the 'Fifty Shades Darker OST' is predicted to debut at #1. ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

daft punk?? no way!! is that why they were @ the grammys? they got a new single coming out? i loved their album 'random access memories.'

avatar

Piran

1

'Random Access Memories' was an awesome album! :)
Yeah, The Weeknd collaborated with Daft Punk on both 'Starboy' & 'I Feel It Coming'. The former became Daft Punk's first Hot 100 #1 & the latter has a chance at the Top 10 next week.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

what's daft punk's new single?

avatar

Piran

1

Well as a featured artist, it's 'I Feel It Coming'. I've not heard that they're releasing anything as a lead artist though.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey mate, is your latest chart on crownnote the one with ed @ #1?

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, that's the one! 'Castle On The Hill' has already spent four weeks at #1 on my charts, but this week could be its last.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

oh ok, i left a comment ;) so, anything new going on in the uk music scene?

avatar

Piran

1

Well all of the talk over here for the next couple of weeks will about the BRIT awards next Wednesday & then we'll probably be chatting about Ed's new album. ;)
Anyway, I'm going to sign off now, but it was fun chatting to you again. See you tomorrow!

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

ok, fill me on the brit awards ;) ok mate, i gotta get going too...talk to you later :P

Regarding David Lee Roth, I did like the song but not as much as his remake of California Girls, medley of Just A Gigolo / I Ain't Got Nobody and my fave from him,
Yankee Rose.

Yep, I knew you'd appreciate most of that Top 10. I definitely loved his music back then. You probably also remember Together Forever, right? ;)

G

Gail

1

Yes, they did one for spice girls and they also do birthdays of artists as well!

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

david lee roth never appealed to me...but yeah i did like rick astley's songs. i def. remember 'together forever', but of course i liked the teen acts and just about all the pop, rock and r &b acts back then. def. a fun decade to grow up in :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

oh that's pretty good....oh speaking of the spice girls, around this time back in 1997 would be when they first were on the bb hot 100 chart :) they had a great year that year...they're still the first and only uk group to have their debut single go to #1 in the u.s.

avatar

Techfan

1

I understand. The only really great songs that Van Halen had with DLR as lead singer were Jump, Panama and (Oh) Pretty Woman. Van Halen under Sammy Hagar had a lot of better songs.

I also liked those teen acts from that time. They didn't seem as spoiled or messed up as those today. Maybe if helped that didn't get as much press coverage as they do today and also due to social media. :P

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

well, think about it: how would van halen appeal to an 8 yr old girl? ;D oh did you catch the 80s specials on cnn last night? i loved the one about mtv starting out...i hadn't seen a lot of those early vids in a long time! and a few i never heard of :D.

avatar

Techfan

1

Yeah, I get that those glam rockers where probably scary and too loud for you at the time! Last night, I did get to see the NBA All-Star Game. It was basically a three-point shooting contest mashed with a lay-up drill and a slam-dunk contest. Both teams set a new record of points scored in that game.

The thing about MTV is that they created a relatively distorted view of what was really popular in music. I mean, just by showing the Thriller video you'd think the song actually went to #1, went it didn't. They also tended to show some videos of songs that might not have even charted in the Hot 100 or at least reached the Top 40. For instance, there was this alternative rock song called Fade Into You they played a lot during a summer of 1995. I had access to a TV, it only peaked at #44.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

that's true :D mj was more appealing to me back in 1983 :D well, some of the early vids on mtv i didn't recall. i was surprised there was no mention of toni basil *hey mickey*, olivia newton john *physical*...i mean, i remember those vids a lot on mtv in the early days.

and about the billie jean segment on the cnn show...they made an error: saying that mtv wouldn't play billie jean until after the motown 25 show. but i do remember seeing that vid prior to motown 25. now it might not have been on a lot until after motown 25, but i do remember mtv showing it sometimes before he did the moonwalk. and the def leppard vid *pour some...* is a different one than was shown here in the u.s. but great show nonetheless! i'm surprised there was no mention of guns n roses, george michael, janet and the teen acts that were also big on mtv in the 80s.

oh, check out my top 10 list over on the 200 article ;)
