Does anyone know the name of the song that I barely know the lyrics to so forgive me if this doesn't make sense. 'Everythings gonna be alright, be alright' then it drops and then near to the chorus it goes 'with yoouu' and then drops again. Any help would be appreciated Thanks!

This chart is painful to read. It's not the top end that I'm complaining about, it's the lower end. Rubbish like the 's On Hold and Bad and Boujee get in the top 40 while we have actually good songs like Alessia Cara's Scars To Your Beautiful dropping without even reaching the top 40 and good new songs like Be The One entering at 54. I'm aware Be The One will probably climb but there's still rubbish like Now and Later, Bad and Boujee etc. in the top 40 while all the good ones fail to reach the top 40. And that's not even mentioning that One Dance is still there...

It's definitely refreshing to have two rock songs in the top 3, and yes, I do consider Castle On The Hill rock as if it was by any one else, it'd certainly be rock

Not bothering with Ups and Downs this week as it's kind of a repeat of last week's charts, but thank god LM are finally off the number 1 spot in the album chart, they had better not return to the spot

another good week for the charts today ;)
nice to see Ed Sheeran hold #1 and #2 again, hopefully Shape Of You can at least near Rockabye's number of weeks at no1.
Great to see You Don't Know Me continuing to rise up the charts. It's a great song and I'm sure it'll overtake Rag 'N' Bone man into no3 next week as that's where it is in both Spotify and iTunes right now. I can see it eventually overtaking Castle on the hill in to no2 in the coming weeks too!
Call On Me continuing to rise is great as is JP Cooper holding onto a top 10 spot. I discovered September Song in October and always liked it, so I'm really glad it finally became a hit!
I like Paris and am glad it has become The Chainsmokers' 3rd Top 10 hit, and first top 10 debut
I love the fact that Bad Things continues to climb rapidly, at this rate it could be no12 or 11 next week or maybe reach top 10! its currently just outside top 10 on iTunes and is still climbing on Spotify, yet to reach top 20. I knew it from its first week released in October and am extremely happy it finally became a big hit over here!
No Lie and Shed A light are both great songs, especially the latter, which I've known since both their releases in November, and like September Song, Call on me and Bad Things, am happy they're getting big hits!
As you can probably tell I'm really excited with the charts right now, as lots of big songs are climbing and Ed Sheeran's releases too. I literally think these past 2 weeks have been more exciting than any 2 in 2016! hopefully the new rule can help the charts stay this exciting all year round!
I like Now And later, and am happy it reached top 40. Bad and Boujee is ok nut it might grow on me. it reminds me of Black Beatles just with less talented rappers, but I really liked Black Beatles so that can only be a good thing!
Another thing I'm really excited about is the fact that Not In Love by M.O entered as high as 61. I love the song- its another one i've known from its release in early December and always loved. its one of my favourite songs right now and I really hope it reaches top 40!
I'm not too sure on Be The One right now, especially as it was initially released as Dua Lipa's second single in 2015, but I'm sure it'll grow on me as I liked her other two chart hits.
Nathan Sykes gets his fifth top 70 hit with There's Only One Of You, which is another good release following Kiss Me Quick, Over And Over Again, Give It Up and Famous. that's likely to climb especially as it has literally no streaming right now.
I don't really care too much about the 's new album, especially as I don't like On Hold, but I might check out Say Something loving as that's been fluttering around the Spotify top 50 all this week. I probably won't like it too much though. Congratulations to them for reaching no1 though!
on the whole, another fantastic week for the charts this week! 2017 has been amazing, with climbers, new entries galore and Ed Sheeran! I think 2017 will be fantastic if it remains like this all year round.
One of the things which makes me love the climbers so much Is that ive known all of them since they were released in October, November etc so have watched them rise!
Thank you for reading! ;)

Piran

1

Hey Calum! I hope you had a good week. :)
Great review as always. I agree with you almost everywhere, except that I actually don't mind 'On Hold' & dislike 'Bad & Boujee'.
Interesting that you mention about 'Be The One' though. It was released in October 2015 & charted across Europe throughout 2016, so why has it took so long to become big in the UK? It's in the Top 10 on iTunes now, which I guess is a good thing! :D
Yeah, Ed Sheeran is definitely a big reason why the charts have started well for 2017! I really hope the Top 100 stays like it is now. ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

hey Piran! yes I had a good week! great review from you too ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

I think Touch has overtaken Be The One back into the top 10 due to the new video

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I knew the official video would give 'Touch' a boost. However, Dua Lipa's also got 'No Lie' in the iTunes Top 10 right now! :)

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

yeah it beat bad things ;( ;( bad things was top 10 till this morning

avatar

Piran

1

It also took a slight fall on Spotify to #24 today too... :(
Did you like 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' then?

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

yeah I loved it ;) best duet ever

avatar

Piran

1

I really liked it as well, even though I prefer 'Bad Things' a little bit more.
Considering you're a big fan of Camila's, what is your favourite Fifth Harmony song? ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

all in my head flex

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

probs my fave of 2016 overall

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

but I liked all

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

I lied is amazing too- never released as single

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

yeah I preferred bad things too. ikwydls was never my fave song but was up there for a very long time. bad things is my fave song now has been like a month will be for a while longer

avatar

Piran

1

Nice! :)
My favourite is probably 'Write On Me'. I remember that they released it as a promotional single from '7/27', which made me buy the album a few days later. 'Sledgehammer' would be a close second though!

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

yeah ive got 7/27 too

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, that was also one of my favourite album tracks. Did you prefer 'Reflection' or '7/27' in terms of albums then? :)

avatar

Piran

1

Well there's actually a website that I use where I can create my own weekly chart.
'Bad Things' recently appeared in my Top 10, but 'Shed A Light' is my favourite song of 2017 so far. 'Castle On The Hill' got my #1 this week! ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

7/27 although both were good. I don't have reflection but ive been planning to get it. I listen to it on spotify though sometimes

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

and it wont be now camilas left ;(

avatar

Piran

1

Do you think Camila will perform well as a solo artist then? She was my favourite member of Fifth Harmony too! :)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

ive got a chart too ;) not online though. its on Spotify though- official top 40

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

all good songs!

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, it's the same with me! :)
So now that Camila is not in the group, are you going to buy Fifth Harmony's next album when they release it?

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

yeah I'm sure she will. in april/may shell release proper songs and Hard Beat is on major lazers upcoming album due out soon!

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

depends on how good the singles are. probs will though. ill defo get camilas album though!

avatar

Piran

1

Thanks! Other #1s have included 'I Don't Wanna Live Forever' & 'Rockabye'. :)
If you're interested, here's my full Top 40 for this week:
www.crownnote.c*m/charts/piran-delves/pirans-top-40-7

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

cool! ill check it out!

avatar

Piran

1

She has a new song with Major Lazer? I have to check that out! :D

avatar

Piran

1

Thanks! Please tell me what you think. ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

its not released but ive known about it months

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

the albums meant to be out this month

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

if u look it up theres loads of things that come up. I don't wanna listen to snippets as I don't want it to be given away, and the full things are just instrumentals for some reason :/ I hope the album comes out soon though so I can hear it forreal ;)

avatar

Piran

1

I just heard it briefly & it's definitely good at first listen. :)
Well Fifth Harmony were heading in a more R&B direction with '7/27', but if Camila wants to make dance music, then I'm certainly fine with that!

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

cool I don't wanna listen to snippets tho. I want a big moment like when I first heard bad things ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

yeah! and I hear shes been working with cashmere cat too- from trust nobody

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I only heard the instrumental too.
So do you follow other charts as well as the UK ones then? :)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

I looked at the bb hot 200 a few days ago but not particularly

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

I heard about the song first before bad things came out in October!! I really hope the song is legit but I'm sure it will be

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

insrmental that is, not proper song

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

weve had a nice conversation! I'm gonna go soon but ill probs check every once in a while

avatar

Piran

1

I'm definitely even more excited for new music from Camila now! :)
Anyway Calum, I've got to go now. Chat to you soon though buddy!

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

cool!

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, it was great chatting to you Calum! See you soon then & have a good evening. ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

Sledgehammer never reached the top 100 in uk did it? at the time I didn't follow 5h but its not on their chart history. I only listened to the top 40 then so knew bo$$, but didn't look online as I didn't really use the computer much in 2014

avatar

Piran

1

No, 'Sledgehammer' peaked at #112 according to Wiki. I think 'Bo$$' peaked at #21, but I wasn't really a huge fan of that song to be honest...

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

i like both although sledgehammer is better ;) I remember when bo$$ was a new entry at 20 or 21, I had no clue who they were until then, as I don't think better together was released here was it? only miss movin on is on Spotify bcos it was on a movie soundtrack

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

i checked it out- its great! so can anyone make an account there? cos I have a weekly chart ive had ages which I could put up! in my chart each song has to have been in either the official uk top 40 or the Vodafone big top 40, so not just any song can get in. so bad things was only allowed for the first time last week as before it hadnt charted. it would've been no1 since like the start of December though if it was allowed. previous no1s have been from hailee steinfeld (8wks), cheat codes (9wks), sigala (9wks), snakehips (8wks) and 5h (14wks), and shorter no1s from galantis, g-easy, zara Larsson and more!

avatar

Piran

1

Here's 'Bo$$'s chart run in the UK:
On 20/12/2014, debuts at #21, then falls to #68 the following week, then #98 the week after & then out of the Top 100 completely. So it only spent 3 weeks inside the charts at all. :/
Something I noticed was that 'The Life' (another promotional single for '7/27') also made the Top 100 for one week; #97 on 07/04/2016.

avatar

Piran

1

Thanks! Yeah, anyone can make an account there & it's so easy to make a Top 40. I usually update my charts every Monday night! :)
I have no rules for which songs are eligible to enter my weekly Top 40 chart, but for Top 10 throwbacks of the week (which I update every Saturday), then the songs have to be 5+ years old. :D
Those are certainly some long #1 hits then! Since November (when I started Crown Note), my #1s have been: 'Rockabye' (2 weeks), 'I Don't Wanna Live Forever' (1 week), 'Shed A Light' (5 weeks) & 'Castle On The Hill' (1 week, current #1). 'Paris' will probably take the top spot tomorrow!
However, I've been making my own weekly charts since about 2013 & started following the actual charts since 2010. ;)
It's interesting that you mention about the Vodafone Big Top 40; before 2016, whoever got a #1 on that was very likely to lead the Official Charts. Last year saw a huge difference between the two charts because of the increased use of streaming.

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

yeah the only reason I include it is that without it songs like levels, zero, ikwydls and more couldn't have made my chart. (the first 2 are from 2015 and are two of my fave songs from late that year). I did top 10s in 2013, 20s in 14/late 15, then top 40 since October 2015. so a long time!

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

yeah I know. I'm surprised it did better than write on me, which overall was a bigger song I thought. like its recently gone ahead of the life in Spotify plays I think

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

cool! so yeah, all my no1s of 2016 were: you don't know me (2wks), all my friends (8wks), dessert (1wk), me, myself & I(1wk), say you do (9wks), no money (1wk), s3x (9wks), all in my head (flex) (14wks) and starving (8wks). in 2017 I would like got 1 week at the chart and since its been bad things for 2 wks. but a I say it would've been longer if it was allowed. ;) ill make an account now so u can see my chart later ;)

avatar

Piran

1

I know the latter of those was very close to making the Top 40 of the Official Charts. Speaking of which, what do you think of Shawn Mendes? I thought 'Stitches' & IKWYDLS were decent, 'Treat You Better' was awful, but 'Mercy' was good. If I'm honest, I prefer his previous discography before he became a big solo artist, include songs like: 'Something Big', 'Life Of The Party' or his guest feature on The Vamps' 'Oh Cecelia'.
The longest #1s in my personal charts are probably; 'Everything Has Changed' (5 weeks), 'Shed A Light' (5 weeks), 'Ready Or Not' (6 weeks), 'Bad Blood' (6 weeks), 'Can't Stop The Feeling' (7 weeks), 'Closer' (7 weeks) & 'Uptown Funk' (7 weeks). I also did just Top 10s back to about 2009, where 'Love Story' was #1 for 12 weeks. As you can tell, I'm a huge Taylor Swift fan! :D

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I can't believe 'Write On Me' didn't reach the Top 100! :(
Oh I actually heard some audios for Fifth Harmony's songs with Camila's parts edited out (the YouTube user names them Fourth Harmony now!). I'll be honest, the songs are nowhere near as good without Camila.

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

I like shawn mendes, yeah. I liked stitches (peaked at no10), treat u better (no4) and mercy (no15) too, yeah! ikwydls only actually got to no7 but its been on there 9 months so that makes up for it ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

I liked bad blood, although it never made my top 20 at the time dunno why! ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Great #1s! I look forward to seeing your Top 40 later. :)
'You Don't Know Me' is a contender to be #1 on my personal charts soon, but it's definitely going Top 5 next week. :D
Regarding your #1s, 'Me, Myself & I' was #1 on mine for 1 week, 'Starving' has previously peaked at #2 in my personal chart & 'Say You Do' reached #3. All of those others peaked just outside of my Top 10. Please tell me when you've posted your new chart though! ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

yeah the that's my girl without her was way worse. although camila has no proper lines in it, she does all the backing vocals making it sound better. it sounded like there was something missing without her ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

camilas bits in write on me are amazing I must say. so's the chorus

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

oh I meant you don't OWN me. u don't know me wasn't out in jan 2016! u don't know me is 12 now, will climb. ;) soz for the error

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

I will do it now ;)

avatar

Piran

1

I know that song got a lot of hate from critics, but I remember watching the video on repeat when it came out! :)
To give you an idea of how much I love Taylor, here are all the #1s that she's had on my personal charts: 'Love Story' (12 weeks), 'Fearless' (2 weeks), 'Should've Said No' (2 weeks), '22' (1 week), 'Everything Has Changed' (5 weeks), 'Style' (2 weeks), 'Bad Blood' (6 weeks), 'Wildest Dreams' (3 weeks), 'Out Of The Woods' (3 weeks) & 'I Don't Wanna Live Forever' (1 week). Other songs like 'Shake It Off' & 'New Romantics' have spent many weeks at #2.

avatar

Piran

1

Especially before the final chorus... wow! :D

avatar

Piran

0

Fair enough! :D LOL
'You Don't Know Me' peaked at #6 in my charts, but spent a few weeks in my Top 10 if I remember correctly. Back then, 'Broken Arrows' & 'Ocean Drive' would've been at the top.

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

I think uve made the mistake too :D lol did u mean you don't own me too? ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

yes yes yes ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Oh yeah, I did too! :P LOL
I did indeed mean 'You Don't Own Me'.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, that was Camila's best singing moment in my opinion. Also, in the final chorus of 'Work From Home'! ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

well, I had top 10 or 20 for most of those songs. I think shake it off peaked at #17/18, bad blood and style just outside top 20, 22 I liked but that was when I had no chart at all I think. my fave taylor swift song was I knew you were trouble (I had no chart then but it would've got top 5 if I had) but ive never been a particular fan

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

and wildest dreams got #40 but it would've got top 20 if it came in earlier. and blank space got I think like 12 or something

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

oh no 31 not 40 for blank space. #40 was its real chart pos. got confused ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

yeah bad blood had a good video. I think it won video of the year in 2014

avatar

Piran

1

Coincidentally, 'Wildest Dreams' also peaked at #40 in the Official Charts too. I still can't believe Taylor Swift hasn't had a #1 in the UK! Do you think she'll be able to do it with the lead single from her next album? :)

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

oh no 31 was wildest dreams not blank space. I KEEP GETTING CONFUSED! lol

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

I dunno. she had some stick last year bcos she tried to break up 5h, but I think that's over now so u never know!

avatar

Piran

1

'I Knew You Were Trouble' peaked at #4 for me, but at least it's good to know that she's had a few songs in your Top 40. :)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

ikr. those notes!

avatar

Piran

0

I think it broke the daily YouTube record at the time of release, which would be passed by 'Hello' a few months later.
Wouldn't it have won Video Of The Year in 2015 though? ;) LOL

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah, it confuses me as well sometimes! It's probably because I also follow so many international charts. :P LOL

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah, I really hope she can though. Can you believe this will be Taylor's 11th year in the music industry already?! :O

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, her upper range is incredible! :D
So which other artists/groups are you a huge fan of then? For me, I also really like: Ed Sheeran, Little Mix, David Guetta, Robin Schulz, Avicii, Hailee Steinfeld, The Vamps, Jess Glynne & Adele.

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

really? is she that old? ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, she released her debut single at 16 & she's 27 now. :)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

er... Cheat Codes, Craig David, The Weeknd, Maroon 5, Zara Larsson, Justin Timberlake, Ed Sheeran, I do like all Hailee Steinfeld's songs (although 1 EP is hardly enouh to consider yourself a huge fan) and obviously 5H and Camila. probs more, but yeah that's all I can think of right now ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

cool! good age to begin in the industry. Camila started at that age too, when 5H's debut song came out. ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I love all of those artists too! Well we'll wait for a full album from Hailee Steinfeld, but everything she's released has been awesome so far! ;)
Oh I also forgot: The Chainsmokers, Ariana Grande & Tinie Tempah.

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, considering Camila's 19 now, that gives her plenty of time in the mainstream music industry! :)
Are you a similar age to her then? I'm one year younger than her.

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

I'm actually 5 years younger :)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

well 4 and a half

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

yeah I like those 3 too!

avatar

Piran

1

Wow... I thought I was relatively young chart fan! :D LOL
When did you start following the UK charts then?

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

so I'm year 10. are you in college or something?

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

well, 2013 really, so when I was year 5. ;) but I got really into the charts and stuff in 2014 and later ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

AARRGGHH!! I was halfway through putting my chart on crownnote then it refreshed so I had to start again! ;(

avatar

Piran

1

I'm actually in my first year of University studying Maths. What is your favourite subject then? :)

avatar

Piran

1

Well I remember my brother was always a big chart fan & he would keep me updated about who was #1 each week. He became too busy to follow them eventually, so now I always keep him updated! :D LOL

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

dunno really ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I occasionally get that problem too! :/
Sometimes what I do is open up a second tab just in case one of them doesn't work.

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

is your brother older than you?

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

oh ok

avatar

Piran

1

Fair enough. I'm also a huge science fan as well, especially Astronomy! :)

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, he's 21 now & in his final year of University studying History & Politics. :)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

cool ;) I'm the oldest sibling in my family LOL

avatar

Piran

1

Haha! Well I'm the youngest. I only have one brother though! :P

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

well ive gotta do something else now but ill get back to it later. bye! ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

I have a brother and a sister ;) anyway, gotta go talk to u later or another day ;)

avatar

Piran

1

I look forward to seeing your chart later.
Enjoy the rest of your afternoon Calum! :)

avatar

Calum Pk7

1

ok bye!

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

I've put the chart up on Crownnote! it looks really cool doesn't it?! hope you like it! btw, do u have to do that whole process every time u do a new chart? I do mine on Fridays, btw, after listening to the charts on radio 1 ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

and I followed u on crownnote too :)

avatar

Piran

1

Awesome! Yeah, I think the charts there look cool. :)
Well I'll head over to Crown Note now, take a look at your Top 40 & leave a comment!

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey mate!! has our mate ed commented on his recent history making bb feats yet? ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Sunshine Gal! :)
Well I think he celebrated having his first Hot 100 #1 on his Twitter. Also, the official video for 'Castle On The Hill' is coming out tomorrow! :D
He recently said in a radio interview that he knew 'Shape Of You' would be the instant hit, but 'Castle On The Hill' would be the song that grows on people. I really hope Ed's right with that! ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

i was wondering where your ar$e was mate LOL! so, will both singles remain in the top 10 2mor? and you also did your updated chart over on crownnote?

avatar

Piran

1

'Shape Of You' will probably fall to #2, but could return to #1 in the coming weeks if airplay grows a lot for it. Unfortunately, 'Bad & Boujee' should go back to #1 on tomorrow's chart! :/
Meanwhile, 'Castle On The Hill' should sadly fall all the way down into the 31-40 range. :(
I'm going to update my chart either later or tomorrow morning. ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

****!!! i wish boujee could be banned off the chart altogether :D well, since ed and our 1D mates are good friends, maybe our 1D mates will come back to the group since ed just made history over here ;)

oh on another topic...i was checking out whitney houston's uk chart feats :/ that's so wierd she has only 4 #1's over there. here, she's still the only artist to notch 7 straight #1's in a row (stemming fro 1985-88). but wow! some of her biggest and even iconic u.s. hits didn't seem to make a splash in the uk: how will i know, heartbreak hotel, i wanna dance with somebody (who loves me).

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I hope 'Bad & Boujee' doesn't keep getting streamed & stays at #1 for a few weeks! I'd take any Ed Sheeran song over that. LOL
Well Whitney may only have 4 #1s, but including those, she did have 17 Top 10s! When she died, 'I Will Always Love You' re-entered the charts at #14 in the UK. Next month will be the 5th anniversary of her death... :(

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

#14??!! over here, i think she was in the top 5...i'll double check in a sec. and yes, i got some whitney throwbacks planned for the hot 100 article around the anniversary of her passing...5 yrs already! i can't believe it! i mean, i still remember her first vid on mtv 'you give good love' back in 1985 :D. but i'll also say, it sure was fun growing up with her and her music! she was def. one of my childhood idols.

*i just checked and on the hot 100 for 2/25/2012 'i will always love you' re-entered @ #7*

avatar

Piran

I might also do a Whitney Top 10 in the same week as you do throwbacks for her.
Didn't 'I Will Always Love You' climb to #3 the following week on the Hot 100 dated for 3/2/2012? That was when 'Part Of Me' by Katy Perry debuted at #1! :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

cool, we'll both plan ahead ;). and it sure did! it went to #3 the following week..i know i saw it in the top 5! and katy debuting @ #1 is nothing...whitney was the 3rd artist to do so :p. but wow, it sure was a blast tracking whitney's singles on the hot 100...while i did miss her on the charts back in the 80s...as you know, the bodyguard soundtrack just slayed left and right!

hard to believe that this year will be the 25th anniversary of the bodyguard soundtrack...i still remember going to see the movie and everyone couldn't stop talking about much 'better' she sang! and right there, is unheard of :D. when people were saying that to me right before i went to see the movie for the first time, i had no idea what they were talking about :D and they were right! even clive davis (arista record head) said that was the best singing of her career. ;) and then after you saw the movie, you'd go get the soundtrack ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Well I'll definitely keep you updated with whatever lists I'm doing. As well as the usual Top 10 songs/throwbacks of the week, I'll be giving you a shout-out for the 'only one #1s' list! :)
Anyway, I know you're going to be signing off soon, so have a good night! :D
Chat to you again soon! ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

your ar$e better give me a shout out ;D. ok mate, i'm gonna put on the blackhawks and get dinner ready...and yes, pls. remind me 2mor of any of the lists we're gonna be doing...good night :P

"Shape of You" and "Castle on the Hill" by Ed Sheeran remain on top of the Official UK Singles Charts for a second week. Both singles, released on January 6, 2017, are taken from Sheeran's upcoming studio album. His new album "➗" (pronounced "Divide") will be released on March 3, 2017. This will be his third studio album. I've noticed that Ed Sheeran always uses mathematical symbols as album titles- his first album was entitled "➕" (pronounced "Plus"); his second album was entitled "✖" (pronounced "Multiply"); and his third album will ofcourse be entitled "➗". I wonder what his fourth album will be called- probably "➖" (subtract).

"Human" by Rag'N'Bone Man remains at number 3 this week.

"Paris" by the Chainsmokers debuts at number 10. It's also in the Top 10 of the South African Dance Charts (which is where I discovered it).

"Bad and Boujee" by the Migos rises to number 37 (from its previous position of number 50).

check out bb's hot 100 for last week and every other week for the whole past year :/. streaming and viral are big chart components so those songs have been the bigger hits. such a shame, cuz there's been a number of really good tracks that can't budge the top 10 based on those 2 big factors.

avatar

James England

I think the OCC should have a six months review of the chart and monitor the amount of the new entries in the top 40. By July 2017 if the OCC deem there aren't enough new singles perhaps they can revise the chart rules. One possible suggestion: a chart limit. A 16 - 20 week limit per single.

What a load of old codswallop. It feels like The Top 100 has been the same for about 3 months! Doesnt anyone release new singles any more? Take me back to the 90s!

avatar

Sunshine Gal

you should've seen the hot 100 all year last year! this week's #1 is ed's 'shape of you', but next week's #1 (possibly) will be 'bad and boujee' LOL! it's already been #1 over here last week.

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

what do u mean? ed sheerans new releases has been one of the biggest chart moments in the last couple of years!

avatar

Jamie Crampton

1

They do but people still repeatedly listen to the same songs on streaming, which is why these charts are such a farce. The sales charts are much more accurate, even if what's in them is still utter , with a few exceptions..

'bad and boujee' is a current top 10 viral hit over here, ed replaced it @ #1 this week, but 'boujee' might be @ #1 next week. terrible song, look it up on youtube ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

castle on the hill is #6 this week. with ed debuting 2 top 10 singles this week, this makes him the very first artist to do so ;). so, he should be getting a special bb award as well as a guinness world record award later in the year :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

ever since the hot 100 added the viral feat to the chart formula, songs like that, 'juju on that beat' and 'harlem shake' have been big hits over here. most of us bb chatters hate that factor! cuz the really good songs keep getting blocked off the top 10.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

yep!!! very cool and i personally have seen each #1 debut ever since mj was the first artist to do so in 1995 with 'you are not alone'. but yes, ed's the first artist with 2 top 10 debuts in the same week :)

My thoughts & observations on the UK charts as always…
- As expected, Ed Sheeran takes the Top 2 spots on the singles chart once again; ‘Shape Of You’ at #1 (66k sales & 11M streams) & ‘Castle On The Hill’ at #2 (49k sales & 7.8M streams). Unless there is another big artist returning soon, then I don’t see this changing for a few weeks yet. My current prediction is 6+ weeks at #1 for the former of these songs.
- While the former has much higher sales & streaming figures, the latter actually had greater airplay this week & was trending more on YouTube. To update my ratings of both songs from last week, ‘Shape Of You’ rises to a 7/10 & ‘Castle On The Hill’ remains at a 9/10.
- ‘You Don’t Know Me’ by Jax Jones ft RAYE has already become of the biggest party & club anthems to start 2017, as it continues to ascend in the Top 10 (9-4). It’s going to take a lot to challenge Ed Sheeran, but if any song can do it that’s in the charts right now, this is it!
- The Chainsmokers earn their sixth UK Top 40 single with the debut of ‘Paris’ at #10. Interestingly, this becomes the EDM duo’s highest debuting song on the UK charts. If you liked ‘Closer’ (which spent four weeks at #1 in September), then you’ll probably enjoy this too. While there is no big drop to this unlike The Chainsmokers’ previous dance hits, I really like the vocalist (Emily Warren) here.
- ‘No Lie’ by Sean Paul ft Dua Lipa (28-21) & ‘Bad Things’ by Machine Gun Kelly & Camila Cabello (23-16) tie for the biggest climbers in the Top 40 this week. I think ‘Bad Things’ may have a chance at entering the Top 10 within the coming weeks. :)
- There were two more new arrivals & one returning song in the Top 40 this week. The first of them being ‘Bad & Boujee’ by Migos ft Lil Uzi Vert (50-37). This has already been #1 in the US & there are a couple of reasons for its success; 1) Donald Glover gave it a mention at the Globen Globes & 2) the meme involving the “rain drop, drop top” lyrics in the song. Other than the decent production by Metro Boomin’, there’s really not a lot of positives I can say about this; Migos’ rapping parts are so boring & Lil Uzi Vert's verse is just completely awful; the first part of it is incomprehensible & the second half of it is so dull. That’s why I really hope this doesn’t become a hit here.
- Meanwhile, The re-enter the Top 40 with ‘On Hold’ (74-34). This is thanks to the band’s third album, ‘I See You’, being released. ‘I See You’ also just became the group’s second #1 over on the albums chart, accumulating 26,500 total units in the first week of its release.
- The rest of the Top 5 on the albums chart is; ‘Glory Days’ by Little Mix (1-2), ‘La La Land’s Motion Picture Cast Recording (99-3!), ‘Ladies & Gentlemen – The Best Of’ by George Michael (stationary at #4) & ‘Migration’ by Bonobo (debuts at #5).
- ‘Now & Later’ by Sage The Gemini is also new to the Top 40 today (43-32), which I certainly don’t mind after first listen & may grow on me even further. You may remember him from his feature on Flo Rida’s ‘GDFR’, which peaked at #3 in March 2015.
- Finally, ‘Mr Brightside’ by The Killers is now spending its 156th week inside the Top 100. If it can remain in the chart for 10 more weeks, then It will tie the record for the longest a song has spent in the singles chart. The current record holders are Snow Patrol with ‘Chasing Cars’ (166 weeks).
- Thanks for reading my review everyone. Have a great weekend!

1

hey mate, tried to beat your ar$e here :D anyhow, is 'boujee' gonna be a top 10 hit over here too? i'd rather it be in your guys' top 10 then ours :P

avatar

Piran

1

I think 'Bad & Boujee' is very unlikely to go Top 10 in the UK; no sales momentum, rising very slowly on Spotify & little radio support. That's a good thing though! :D

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

you guys don't have the same chart factor the hot 100 has where viral songs can stay in the top 10 for a long time? oh speaking of bb...they have the george michael tribute issue out (or soon) i'll try to get it soon :)

avatar

Piran

1

Well I'm very sure that YouTube doesn't count towards the UK Charts, so that's why memes & other viral songs don't chart well over here. The exceptions to this are: 'Harlem Shake', 'Gangnam Style' & 'Black Beatles', all of which hit the Top 5 over here.
Is the George Michael album called 'Listen Without Prejudice 25'? :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

here in america? no i think it's always been called just 'listen without prejudice'...what i was referring to is that bb is doing a special mag. tribute to him. if you scroll to the bottom of the home page and click 'buy this issue' and then 'back issues' you'll see our mate george's tribute issue ;). i see quite a bit of our 1D mates in the back issues section ;)

avatar

Piran

1

Ah fair enough. I'll have to check that out soon! :)
Anyway, what do you think of the UK Charts this week? It doesn't look like anything too exciting should happen next Friday though.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

unless it'll be a future release...so far, i haven't seen anything about a listen without prejudice 25. but we'll see later in the year, and also this is the 30th anniversary of the 'faith' album over here, so maybe sony will do something special with that album.

oh i thought of a couple more lists ;): top 10 fave rock songs and top 10 songs 'when you first heard it, it blew you away' ;). so the rule to that list would be: it made a great 1st time impression on you ;). and it don't matter if it made it on the chart...i have quite a few songs that i heard for the first time that really did blow me away :D

avatar

Piran

1

I'm sure that the album I'm referring to will be a reissue for his 'Listen Without Prejudice Vol.1'. Wow... I didn't know that this year will be the 30th anniversary of his 'Faith' album being released. The latter is still my favourite George Michael album! :)
Great first impressions & Top 10 favourite rock songs are good ideas for lists! Coincidentally, I was considering the former idea myself, as I plan to do Top 10 lists for every genre later in the year.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

oh yeah...i can't get over how fast the time went by when i was listening to the faith album on my beloved walkman :D. the walkman ruled back then! but anyhow, i think in the george tribute issue, bb will go over all his past bb chart feats and take the reader back in time when him and wham were really big here. i mean, i was just a kid back then, but today i def. have a new appreciation for his achievements...he basically did what adele, tay-tay, etc. did remaining in the top 10 almost a full year...and no internet advantages :)

and yeah, that's what i was thinking 'top 10 1st impression songs' list...i couldn't think of a shorter way to put it.

avatar

Piran

1

Haha! Yeah, that's really the shortest description that you could make for that list! :P LOL
Oh apparently the Little Mix tour tickets sold out in a few minutes across the UK today. I wonder if 'Touch' can climb back up the Top 10 next week now that it has an official video...

avatar

Techfan

1

Hey Piran! So it looks that overall, this week the charting songs didn't move too much up or down, save for the exception of what you mentioned. The album being released helped the charting songs from it climb. Plus you forgot that Lil Uzi Vert's part makes Bad & Boujee 'awfuler'!

avatar

Piran

1

Hey Techfan! :)
Yeah, I agree, especially considering that the biggest climbers in the Top 40 were only seven spots.
Speaking of The , I actually really like 'On Hold'! I might actually check out their 'I See You' album. Where is it predicted to debut on the BB200 then?

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

yep! :D i was like, how can i explain it really short? and i couldn't LOL!. is lm doing a full european tour or just in england?

avatar

Piran

1

I just checked & it seems like they're touring in: UK, Europe & the USA. Well I really hope that gives Little Mix a better chance of success in your country then! ;)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

when are they coming here? and are you gonna go see them in concert? are any of them from where you grew up?

avatar

Piran

1

No, none of them live near where I grew up. Also, I didn't get tickets to see them; I'm waiting for Ed or Tay-Tay to announce their tour dates! :D
Little Mix are touring the US from now until mid-April. They will also be visiting Canada in March & Australia in July.

avatar

Sunshine Gal

1

hey mate, for the hot 100 on 3/7/1998, nsync would've made their very first chart appearance with 'i want you back' @ #25. so that's jt's very first week on the hot 100 :))))! i wasn't a big nsync fan @ the time, but wow! 19 yrs went by so fast...ok mate, i'll catch you later, talk to you over the weekend :)

avatar

Sunshine Gal

0

gee...don't say hi to me or anything :D so, looking forward to next week's hot 100 #1? ;D it won't be ed (i think)

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Paris is OK but the drop isn't great

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah, the drop isn't as good as in 'Don't Let Me Down' or 'Closer' for example. Did you like either of those songs then? :)

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Closer is good IMO, but I'll swear I'm the only person who dislikes Don't Let Me Down. I hate the drop for it, the song sounded nice before that, it's weak and stupid sounding, it reminds me of the Harlem Shake

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah, 'Closer' was one of my favourite songs of last year actually. 'Don't Let Me Down' seemed to get the best reaction from critics & also liked it a lot too. '#selfie' is easily their worst hit though; I still can't believe that almost made the Top 10...

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

2

Yeah I don't think any dance song will ever be worse than Selfie

avatar

Piran

0

Haha! I agree, but 'Harlem Shake' is nearly as bad.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

I never really considered that a dance song, but yeah. Easy Love by Sigala is up there, rather DOWN there, too

avatar

Piran

0

Everyone hated 'Easy Love', but I actually thought it was quite cool!
So are there any songs that you really like that everyone else hates? A recent one for me is probably 'Don't Wanna Know'.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

2

I'm not alone in hating that, it's so boring, doesn't even use any proper instruments (which is a problem if you're an instrument playing band), chorus is flat as fudge and the beat's not even cool. And I hate the radio version even more as I hate Kendrick Lamar

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Here's a few songs I like that everybody hates:

Gangnam Style (everyone hates that now)
What Does The Fox Say
Any Pitbull song
Any Nickelback song
Anaconda (yes, FR)
Axel F (the Crazy Frog song)

avatar

Piran

1

I guess another reason people hate it is because of the tropical influence, which would've been supported by many a couple of years ago, but we know that's becoming so generic on the radio now. With 'Don't Wanna Know', I actually don't know why I like it, but I guess it's just a guilty pleasure of mine! LOL

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Oh yeah, forgot about that, sneaking tropical house elements into it, and yet they forgot the dance side of it. Having said that, the term 'tropical house' is so overused these days, literally, every electronic song is classed as 'tropical' according to Wkipedia

avatar

Piran

0

'Axel F' might've been annoying, but it was so hilarious! I actually like a lot of Pitbull songs too.
I don't really mind Nickelback that much either, but I have to go with the majority & say that I loathed both 'Anaconda' & 'The Fox'.

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

u like the fox????

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, that's why songs like 'Rockabye' & 'Cheap Thrills' were so overplayed on the radio, which is probably what will happen to 'Shape Of You' too.
Anyway Synthesiza, I need to go now. Have a good evening though! :)

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

I used to but not now

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Regarding The Fox, I think the only reason why I like that was because I wasn't even into music when that came out. If it was released now I probably would hate it. I came up with that theory considering I like The Fox and Crazy Frog but hate Juju On The Beat, Crank That, Selfie...

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

I liked anaconda actually ;)

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

I kinda liked the fox when it came out (I had just got into the charts properly in 2013) but not now

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

Cheap Thrills is tropical house???

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

Sure

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

I used to but meh

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

The beat is pretty good though

avatar

Calum Pk7

2

don't wanna know's good but m5's other old songs were better

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

cant even remember! but maybe ill listen again

avatar

Piran

0

Maybe 'Cheap Thrills' wasn't the best example (the intro of that reminds me of 'Shape Of You' though). Overplay is why I also got tired of '7 Years' quite quickly.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

2

I always tell people not to judge to judge songs out of being overplayed, but admittedly quite a lot of songs lost their shine for be for being overplayed (examples include Cheerleader, Sorry, What Do You Mean, Lean On, I Took a Pill in Ibiza...) Mind you, I've not heard any of those on the radio lately, so I'll probably get back into lots of those again soon

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

I agree, and cheap thrills is another example- I hate that now

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Forgot that, that song was pretty decent at first (I don't like it if there's no Sean Paul though) but it was so overplayed

avatar

Calum Pk7

0

yeah

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I agree with you. Take 'Uptown Funk' as an example, I was obsessed with that song at first (it spent seven weeks at #1 in my personal charts). A few months later, I couldn't stand it & would change stations whenever it came on the radio. Now, two years after release, I love it almost as I did back when it first came out! :)
However, most of those songs that you mentioned are ones that I'm starting to get back into now.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

For me Uptown Funk was so good it would always be a delight no matter how much it is/was overplayed

avatar

Piran

0

I would easily call 'Uptown Funk' one of my favourite songs of the decade so far. Do you like a lot of Bruno Mars' songs then? :)

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Yeah, I like Locked Out of Heaven, The Lazy Song, Marry You, Nothin' On You (with BOB), Billionaire (with Travie McCoy), Just The Way You Are and of course Uptown Funk. I don't like Grenade or When I Was Your Man though. 24K Magic and Gorilla are okay. He is possibly my fave urban artist

avatar

Piran

0

Well I actually like 'Grenade' & 'When I Was Your Man', but I agree with you on everything else. Did you see the Official Chart Update then? :)

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Yup, looks like an okay week. Not too much special seems to be happening though

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah, I said in the comments beneath the actual chart that it's quite a boring week. At least Dua Lipa has two big climbers though! :)

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

Oh no, I hate her

avatar

Piran

0

Fair enough. I get that she's not for everyone.
What do you think of 'Text From Your Ex' then? It looks like that's going to be the only song debuting in the Top 40 next week.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Never heard it, but if it's TT, it will probably be good

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

0

If you wanna know why i don't like Dua Lipa, it's because she's just a generic pop star whose voice sounds like an Amy Winehouse rip-off and is big for no reason. I mean, she's not doing EXTREMELY well (i.e. not had a top 10 yet) but seriously, how dare she be able to get in the top 40 while guys like John Newman can't even get in the top 100.

Also, Blow Your Mind is a straight-up disaster. You simply can't say 'mwah' in a song and make it good.

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah, I really hope we see more John Newman in the charts soon.
Regarding Dua Lipa, sorry but you won't like hearing this, but I think 'Be The One' is looking likely to go Top 10 within the next week or two.

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Off topic a little but I'm sure I recognise the title. Wasn't it released a bit of time ago?

Also, can't judge what I've not heard. ;)

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah, it was released in late 2015, but only became a hit across Europe last year. Now that Dua Lipa is so much more popular in the UK now, her record label decided to release 'Be The One' again, but just in this country.
Just out of curiosity, do you follow any international charts? :)

avatar

Piran

0

Also, in my opinion, 'Be The One' is Dua Lipa's best song that she's released. :)

avatar

I Am A Stegosaurus

1

Only the Hot 100 sometimes and feel suicidal every week after reading it

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah, I agree that the Hot 100 hasn't been looking too great recently to be honest.
At least 'Bad & Boujee' isn't #1 in the UK though! ;)
