Happy to see Louisa back in the charts, though at 98, I hope your predictions for entering the top 40 may come true!

I really like that the Top 3 Songs are so different in it´s music style. There is 1 Rap Song, a piano ballad and an Uptempo pop song with Dance influences.

'Old Town Road' isn't a rap song though. It's a country song with trap influences. Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine.

My thoughts & observations on the UK charts as always…

- ‘Old Town Road’ becomes the first UK #1 single for Lil Nas X! The viral country-trap fusion hit had around 80,000 combined sales since last week (including 8.9 million streams) making it one of the most dominant #1s of 2019 so far!

- ‘Someone You Loved’ by Lewis Capaldi returns to #1 on the airplay chart for a second non-consecutive week.

- Despite being only an audio, the remix of ‘Old Town Road’ with Billy Ray Cyrus skyrockets to #1 on the national YouTube chart! Last week, it was barely inside the Top 40, but it has since increased 448.1% in views to 3.21 million!

- AVICII FT ALOE BLACC – SOS (#12)
So tomorrow will be the one year anniversary of the tragic news of Avicii’s suicide & the shock of what happened still hits us dance fans hard, let alone someone who listened to Avicii on a daily basis throughout their teenage years. Anyway, with him said to be mostly done on working on an album at the time of his death, I knew we’d get new music from him eventually, which brings us to today & oh wow… this is really something special! The first few seconds of the pulsating synths, the crisp drums & the pop groove brought me up in goosebumps straight away & while the song obviously needed some production editing in places, particularly around Aloe Blacc’s vocals, the two artists know each other so well that the whole song connects even more regardless. That’s before we discuss the hooks, where Aloe is bringing more passion than he ever has before (which is truly impeccable given how much I loved ‘Wake Me Up’) & the tropical melody of the drop, which is in the vision that only a true musical genius like Avicii would come up with! It’s also clear that he wrote this during his struggles too, allowing the lyrics to hit even more deep. Then I listened back to this many times & for the first time in a very long time, I realised that I listened to a song that I couldn’t give any criticism whatsoever. In case you couldn’t tell already, it’s a 10/10!

- BTS FT HALSEY – BOY WITH LUV (#13)
I feel like every time BTS come back with new music, they break all the records they set before, which is actually a good thing for the most part since I really liked their ‘Love Yourself’ trilogy, but they’re back with a new era & if this is a sign of what’s to come, then I’m defintiely intrigued! I love their harmonies with Halsey on this, even if I do feel like she should’ve had her own verse here, or at least some solo lines, because this is actually one of the few instances where I’m really impressed with her vocals. Of course, BTS have so much chemistry between their members that they can always make an upbeat disco song like this feel even more fun, especially with that funky groove. The lyrics might be predictable & I can’t help but think that Suga’s rap part falls a little flat for me, at least compared to what he’s done in the past, but you know what, I’m certainly on board with these crossovers if they’re going to carry as much life & positivity as this does. As such, I’m thinking a light 8/10!

- On the albums chart, ‘Map Of The Soul: Persona’ gives BTS their first ever #1 album, having accumulated 26,500 combined sales since Friday! The group make chart history today by becoming the first ever Korean act to have a #1 album in the UK.

- The rest of the Top 5 is: ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’ by Billie Eilish (1-2), ‘The Greatest Showman [Soundtrack]’ (stationary at #3), ‘No Geography’ by The Chemical Brothers (debuts at #4) & ‘What A Time To Be Alive’ by Tom Walker (4-5).

- Looking ahead to next week, these songs could enter the Top 40 for the first time: ‘Earth’ by Lil Dicky, ‘Medellin’ by Madonna & Maluma, ‘Carry On’ by Kygo & Rita Ora, ‘Here We Go Again’ by Sigma ft Louisa, ‘What I Like About You’ by Jonas Blue ft Theresa Rex, 'Wobble Up' by Chris Brown ft Nicki Minaj & G-Eazy, ‘Don’t Worry Bout Me’ by Zara Larsson & maybe even more.

- Thanks for reading everyone! I hope you all have a good Easter weekend. :)

A #1 album is great for them as they are from (south) korea i presume but 26,500 album sales in a week is appalling. When the charts really mattered, albums would sell that many in a morning, not a week!

Hey Piran! I really love seeing 'Old Town Road' at #1 as well, though I definitely do wish that Billy Ray Cyrus was credited given that it's the remix getting most of the streams. I do like seeing a change at the top after 7 weeks as well, even if I still like 'Someone You Loved'. It looks like 'Old Town Road' will be staying at #1 for a little while now, though 'Piece of Your Heart' will probably be the #2 next week as it's currently #1 on Spotify, Apple Music and iTunes (though its Spotify streams can't beat the combined streams of both versions of 'Old Town Road').
I quite like the big climb for 'Keisha & Becky' to #7, as well as the much smaller climb to #10 for 'Here With Me'. I also like that 'Location' is still in the Top 10 - just 2 more weeks in the region and it'll match 'Funky Friday's run in the region, though obviously with a lower peak. I think it'll manage it, since it's been climbing on YouTube even without a video, and it's consistently Top 10 on Spotify and Top 3 on Apple Music. I'm quite surprised that it hasn't been pushed as an official single yet, though, given how well it's performed.
As for the debuts, 'SOS' is by far my favourite of the 2, and I agree with many of your points on the track. It's definitely very good to be hearing some new music from Avicii - 'SOS' would be a light-solid 9/10 for me so far. 'Boy With Luv' definitely isn't as good for me, maybe a light 6/10 at best, but then I've never really been a fan of BTS so it's not really surprising. Their fanbase is crazy though - 258 responses on the article about them getting #1 album, while there's only 38 on this chart and just 7 on the article for Lil Nas X reaching #1!
Next week I hope that 'SOS' can reach the Top 10, but other than that it doesn't seem like much will happen. Nothing really stands out as being certain to debut; the highest on Spotify right now is 'Power is Power', but that's only at #49 (I did see that you didn't mention it, did you just not know / forget about it or was there another reason?). I would've expected it to be charting higher given the huge names on it and the hype surrounding Game of Thrones Season 8 right now (the season premiere had 17.4m US viewers watching it live, beating their own record from the S7 finale, and an estimated nearly 100m worldwide viewers watching it within 24 hours of release!). Other than that, I'm really not sure what, if anything, will manage to debut.

Hey Gameskiller! :)
Yeah, OCC are really inconsistent with credited additional artists on remix versions. Like, it happened with 'Despacito', but not with 'Perfect' nor 'Old Town Road'.
I think the only song that'll have a chance at stopping 'Old Town Road' soon will probably be with whatever Taylor comes back with on Friday, since the lead single to her last album finally got her a #1 single in the UK after this time, so she might end up doing the same in two charts from now given the anticipation.
It appears that we share similar thoughts on 'SOS', although I definitely liked 'Boy With Luv' a lot more than you did, although that's perhaps unsurprising given that I've generally been more into K-Pop than you have. That said, I agree that BTS do have a huge following on social media! The albums article has even more comments than the singles chart, which probably won't happen again for a fair while.
'SOS' seems consistent enough to hit the Top 10 next week, but we'll have to see how streams go regarding 'Power Is Power'. Like you said, Spotify was the only place it seemed to get off to a decent start in back on Friday, hence why I didn't include it in my predictions.

Thanks! I hope yours was good too. ;)

I guess that's because of streaming now counting towards the album "sales" that OCC report, although in BTS' case, most of their numbers will come from physical sales or digital downloads anyway. Like you said, while 26,500 is certainly impressive for a K-Pop group, it's relatively weak compared to #1 albums in previous years.

Yeah, first time it's happened since I started doing these style of weekly OCC reviews (which there have been 110 of so far!). ;)
