Who are Take That?

Take That were founded in Manchester in 1990, originally a five-piece, the British pop group changed line-up several times over the subsequent decades, but with their members always drawn from the founding members of song-writing chief Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Mark Owen, Jason Orange and Robbie Williams.

A defining pop act of their generation, Take That enjoyed staggering success on the UK Official Chart, achieving 12 Number 1 singles and nine Number 1 albums so far. Take That's first entry into the Official Singles Chart Top 40 was in 1991 with Promises, peaking at Number 38, taken from their debut album Take That And Party. Their first Top 10 hit followed in June 1992 with It Only Takes A Minute, but it would be their second studio album, Everything Changes, which would deliver them their first Number 1 single Pray. 

In 1995 Take That released the best-selling single of their career, Back For Good, which also went on to become one of the UK's best-selling singles of all time.

From their original pin-up early years, the band had a typically chaotic 90s break-up when Robbie left the fold, but managed to pull off one of the most successful and surprising comebacks of the 2000s when Gary, Howard, Mark and Jason re-branded as a man-band with their beautifully mature ballad Patience. From there, they continued on as a foursome, until Robbie re-joined for their Progress album cycle. Following a country-wide tour, Robbie left the band, as did Jason a few years later, now leaving Gary, Mark and Howard as a three-piece.
